  1. Get your mods done first. They have the biggest voice in the jetting scheme. Once you have your jets dialed in for your mods, then...you slightly adjust them for either temperature and/or elevation changes. For example.... When I put pipes on my quad, it had to go up about 8 sizes on the main. Now that it's warming up...I'll probably have to adjust the main one size...two sizes at the very most and twist the air screw a tiny bit. You are half correct on your last statement. You do change jetting when you change air/fuel coming in or air/fuel coming out. But, as pointed out, you also change jetting with temp and altitude changes.
  2. In that case, I'd go 300 mains. 350 to 250 mains in your case is more than enough adjustment. From near sea level to 4000 feet is about 2 main sizes...MAYBE 3 at most. At 4000 feet elevation and 20cc domes, I don't think You'll need AV or race gas...but, Dave Noss can tell you for sure...he's da man.
  3. I'd go two up and two down on the mains. I'd go one up and one down on the pilots. The pilots aren't as finicky as the mains...especially on the 'shee.
  4. Dunno about that... The pipe in question is designed to have a certain amount of back pressure...which, the silencer provides. Like Sred said...it may not decrease performance...it certainly will not help, though. However...true drag pipes are just that. Pipes with NO silencers. Regardless...we all agree...don't give the ATV community a black eye just to be loud and/or save a buck on packing them.
  5. 340 is fat. You're going to end up with 290 to 320 mains. I've got 330's in mine...and a month ago when it was 40's and 50's...it was good. Last trip I went on this weekend it was 70s...and just a tad fat. I'm gonna drop to 320s for the summer fun. 27.5 pilots are fine. I'm gonna try 25 pilots in mine...I have 27.5's now...and the air screws are about 2.25 turns out. I'm in MI, and at sea level to 1000 ft. I have this filter kit w/ outerwear...and the K&N pod filters. I don't notice a difference...but it's nice having a spare filter for a long weekend of riding instead of having to clean 'em after a long ride!! You will notice a huge difference in performace AND sound. I bought my shee in Feb., my buddy had stock pipes. Any aftermarket pipe on the shee is night and day difference....stock pipes are quite possibly the worst design in history...the shee motor has so much potential....any one will tell you first thing it needs is pipes... T6's are good with bolt on mods, T5's for stock and ported motors. You'll probably beat your buddy...but I don't think you'll smoke him. Then again, wise man say racing is 10% bike, 90% rider....
  6. Yes, it will hurt performance. Yes, it will be louder. No, it's not a good idea. It's less than 30 bucks for packing...how often do you have to repack them? The packing "deadens" the sound. It gets that sound from the holes. You've head bikes/cars with straight pipes, right? Unless you drag in an approved area, not bothering anyone...don't ruin it for us other guys... Loud pipes just for the sake of being loud doesn't make cent$. But...like I said...if you just drag or ride in areas where NO ONE will complain, etc., all for it....
  7. Close enough to get it to run, probably... Your own experience will dictate after that. it might be setup for your mods...but is it setup for your tempature and altitude? Both HUGE factors in jetting...
  8. Your supposed to change jetting every 1500 to 2000 feet, or roughly 30 to 35 degree of temp changes. If you were close to that elevation, I'd say leave it. However...you're not. If you have an aftermarket filter, you could probably remove the airbox lid and be ok. You must lean out your jetting for higher altitudes...so, essentially...getting more air in via no lid should be just about right. Might have to turn out your air screws .25 to 1.0 turns. BE WARNED...without the lid, the stock design air filter does not seal to the box. Pro design makes a kit that bolts the air filter the box itself, or...if you're crafty, you can make something yourself....
  9. Why reinvent the wheel? Look here...you'll answer 98% of your own question(s) http://www.bansheehq.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=23546
  10. Damn....get off the forum and get that thing together already...will ya? The sound of a wound out 'shee already gives me a stiffy....a turbo'd shee might make me cream me drawers... You sure as hell sound like you know what the hell you're talking about...hope this works out for you. Get some pics up and MOST definately some sound bites out there....this is gonna sound fucking sick!!!!
  11. SAM...what do you need to ride in OH, as in ...an ORV sticker for MI...? You mentioned DNR...so, is the ORV the same for all states, just MI?
  12. Quite possibly... Well...you can see my shee in my sig. I was there with two guys on 04 red 450Rs. We were at the drag strip 80% of the time. I distinctly remember two of the 4 or 5 shees there. one was blue and strectched out...the other was blue and stock wheel base. I wanna say they both had FMF pipes...but don't quote me on that. I KNOW one of 'em did... My buddy on MDS said one of the shees blew their tranny...hope that wasn't you. Had a good time, planning on going there a gain. Just got back from peacock, MI. Legal ORV trails, and the best I've ridden. Went up with 11 other riders. 4th and 5th gear trails, with a touch of 6th. Wide, sweepers, no twisty tight trails...and, after the rain they had...they were perfect to ride Saturday. No dust!!! I can't wait to go up again...
  13. Well will ya lookie here...it's about damn time, Jeff. Good to see you on here!! I'm getting ready to leave for a weekend trip in about 2 hours...gonna hand my boy his ass a few times, actually...all weekend, on his 450R... Thanks for everything...Jeff. Be good...boys. I'll have some pictures and stories when I get back from the whippins...
  14. So...the question is...did you take the drop and a stroke...or a Mulligan? I would've made you hit is as it lie... Yeah...got bit by one as a kid...luckily...I never developed any type of "phobias" about 'em...
  15. Sorry for your loss...Jim. People always say it's the idiot on a bike that causes a problem... All my good friends ride...and it's normally the jerks that don't pay attention, cell phone, eating, etc., that cause the problems. Being almost defenseless on a bike makes it worse... Sorry again...best wishes to you and yours...
  16. Exactly what I was going to say. Up until the latest 450 rage from Yamaha and Honda, it was THE bike to have for MX. And they only made it from 86 to 89... Think about that...a 12, 13 year old bike dominating... They will smoke a shee stock vs. stock on a track and tighter trails... They are a total blast to ride, jump and handle great. Just gotta give it a good once over due to the age. Good thing is, old as it is...still a ton of parts for 'em. A few years ago...a good 250R was going for a lot more, but...since the 450s came out, they are starting to drop in price. I raced a ported/polished piped 89 this weekend. Sure, I beat him in the drag...but, after racing him, we pulled over...and I just goo goo gaa gaa'd over his bike. It was one beautiful, clean machine. Kinda made me miss my old done up stutz 85 QuadRacer... Go for it dude...4X4s are a dime a dozen. Sure, this is a classic....but think about this. How much has the Banshee really changed since 87? (J Arms...plastics and color... Hope it treats you good!!
  17. Got it... Didn't see the mention of the FMF on the EX. Well...it can be best summed up by saying two totally differnt bikes designed to do the same thing, have fun on. My buddied keep asking me when I'm going to buy a four stroke...and my reply is always...let me know when yours is paid off, and out in front of mine.
  18. Don't think FAST even has a web site. It's basically...and Loco or Steve correct me if I have this backwards, HD Steel plates, Aftermarket Street bike (FZR600) fibers, and Barnett HD springs. As Jeff said, it's a "Homegrown" set. I can't argue with that...it works!
  19. 300? What kind of pipes are those...you need silencers too...ya know.. Don't kid yourself. 4 Stroke exhaust is expensive too. There's more to the silencer..and they're fairly new...you're gonna pay just as much, if not more. And that's only one pipe and can. My buddies 450R can wheelie through just about all the gears, I spank him...though. 4 strokes by nature are torquier...and make their power in a lower RPM...thus your wheelies. If that's all you wanted to do...you definately made the right choice. Try launching that bad boy... They also have a shorter wheelbase which = more wheelies. If you ask any one of the MX guys who shorten their shee 1 to 2 inches, they'll tell you it wheelies easier...too. Here's your exhaust from Magic. Slip on Mufflers may be under 300...but, full exhaust still tops 4 bills. http://www.magicracing.com/view_category.asp?cat=228
  20. Jay...just north of Detroit meself. Last week I went to Dusty D's. (yeah, it's called Dusty for a reason...) I know it's not close..but, it's only a 2.5 hour ride, Standish area. The guy is great... I ran out of 2 stroke oil. He GAVE me a bottle of Golden Spectro... I offered to pay, and he said nope, I buy it for you guys. You can donate a 5 spot if you have a good time, you will. Has a drag area...small track and tons of trails. He owns 500 Acres. PM me if you want the details...it's a cool little gig. Last weekend, MDS (Michigandirtslingers.com) and another ATV site had their Pig Roast/Picnic there...about 100 quads/bikes, etc.
  21. My buddy had an '03 with a 440 kit, Yosh, jetted, cam, etc. Yep, it was peppy for sure, and it was fun to play on. He now has an '04 450R. MUCH, MUCH better. Once he put the HRC kit and Yosh kit on his otherwise stock 450R, he said it would positively smoke his ol 440... I've always love the shee...from 87 on. I had a few years of a brief stint on a CR250...but, I came across a steal on my buddies 96 shee...and I got bit with the fever ever since...glad I came back to 4 wheels and a screaming twin. And I'm just getting started with it.. Seriously...though, I just rode with a bunch of 'em Saturday... From stock to bored to piped, etc. Everything but the juice...even the fastest one was easily 4 bike lengths back at 500ft drag mark. Good luck...though. Hope you don't have any regrets!!
  22. Shift Star, most definately. I just went on an all day Ride Saturday for the first time with my modded star, bit, big difference. Also...get the stator timing plate and get the flywheel lightened. All mods I put in last Friday and rode with on Saturday...I couldn't be happier!! There are plenty here that can do that for you...Boonman did mine, and he's a helluva fella.
  23. Not really a question of leaner or richer...they are definately longer, which generally means your mains will kick in a bit later. I assume you mean the dynojet needles in the Toomey kit. Put the clip in the 4th groove down from the blunt end, there should be 6 notches instead of stock 5. You're going to need to dial the mains in first, or you could spend all day reclipping the needles. Make sure your carbs are sync'd properly, too.
  24. I would start with 27.5 pilots. Start with about 350 Mains. 1.5 out on the air screws, and a box of plugs. Go from there... You're really killing that engine with those carbs...as you know. Did you try calling Vito's...see what they say...
  25. Yep...3/3 cause I rode it in a field for about an hour total...probably 10 minutes or so at a time. Granted...we were dragging the whole time...my arm was hit. Yes, If I were you...I'd run all 6 to be safe. Once I get the Noss head, VForce Reeds and Port job, I'll be turning back over to 6 meself. But...in due time!! I'd have Jeff send you a bottle of Engine Ice as well. love that stuff!!
