  1. Take a look at the Toomey 2 into 1 air filter system with an outerwear. Foam will flow more air when dirty...and the outwear helps a bunch with water/sand. I puts the air filter up under your seat more, instead of out in the open off the back of the carbs. I use that and the pods. I keep em both clean and ready to go...for a long weekend. It's like having a "spare" air filter... I haven't noticed a single bit of performance difference between the two of 'em... Take a look... http://www.toomey.com/html/newfilter_store.htm
  2. Boon Tune is three things: Lightened flywheel, Shaved or milled head and a modded shiftstar. Lightened flywheel, you're pretty clear on. Milled head raises your compression. Ask Boonman what is best for you. More compression will give you a bit better low end. He can tell you based on your elevation and needs. If you plan on running pump premium gas, he'll probably tell you to shave .020 to .030, depending on your elevation. Modded shiftstar is really great. On the clutch side of the tranny, there is a little piece of metal that looks like a small sprocket or chinese throwing start. He machines this star to help the banshee shift better under full engine load (max RPMs) and makes it much easier to find Nuetral. Something all shees can use. Boon is a great guy...and will work with you 100%. He really went the extra mile in helping me out...and I have no reservation about recommending him to anyone.
  3. Get it done. I liked my T5 pipes before I had Boonman lighten mine. They reved...had a noticable hit, etc. I did the lightened flywheel and timing plate at the same time, and what a difference. It almost makes the bike electric like... It doesn't give more bottom...but, because it does rev faster, it feels like it. Heavy flywheels are good for single cylinders and 4 strokes. I read up on this on the HQ for a while before having it done. I wish I would've done it sooner.... You won't be dissapointed.
  4. With a brand new bike...stock, just get the bolt ons for now. They will pave the way for future enhancements, anways. Pipes, open up the air box and get a good filter. If you don't ride in mud or water, remove the airbox all together... Pipes alone make the biggest difference from a bone stock shee. The stockers are terrible. Three more cheap mods that are a must have in my opinion are the boon tune. Lightened flywheel, Modded shiftstar and a milled head. Don't forget about a cheap, advanced timing plate. It's 35 bucks plus shipping from Ricky Stator....shees love timing. +4 is about perfect. Once you bolt on these goods, and get used to your new bike....you're going to love it. Ride it for a while. Once you're ready to freshen up the top end, if you still want more speed, go for the gusto. Port, etc. Jim and Jeff both build quality. I'm sending my motor over to Jeff after the 4th of July...and I'm giddy to get it done. SSTs and T5s are great pipes. I did demo a set of Rockets on my stock motor (Stock bore, stock porting) and I honestly like my T5s better. However...once it's ported and the top end is freshened up...I might give them another try. You'll be smoking all those other bikes with just bolt on mods...unless that guy on the 450R starts putting some coin into that thing....
  5. I'm gonna talk with Jeff. TO be honest...I like the way it runs now. It is just time after 9 years (4 or 5 of actual riding time) for a fresh top end. Might as well port it too. But, I need to have it running by the 4th of july weekend. Slapping on Cylinders and pistons is cake. I don't know if I want to and/or have time to get into the crank right now.
  6. Get some rest...Jeff. 10,000 rpm and a dremel bit with no sleep is a bad recipe... I'll call you in a bit..
  7. Well....Jeff, you're going to be doing it for me...so, good to know. I was giong to send my head to boonman to have it shaved...but, sounds like it has to be recut anyways. Jeff...if I only do port work and fresh top end now, does it ruin your porting later if I decide to go with a stroker in the off season, say...Winter time? I was thinking stroker...but, now that I'm back to reality (paid some bills) I think I'm going to just shave the head for now, have FAST do a good overall aggressive woods/MX port, freshen the top end...and shortly after a new clutch assembly. Jeff, I'll be calling real soon.... If it's not like 100 degrees today, I'm tearing it all down to ship.
  8. Hey...need some good info on a 4mil stroker crank. As in...do you have to run a spacer plate, special pistons, etc. I KNOW someone has a good source to read up on... any linkies?
  9. Cool beans... I'm just going to have Jeff do it up...I'm also going to ask if the cylinders can be "reported" Should I decide to put a 4mil stroker in.... I know that changed the port timing drastically... Yeah...Jeff's clutch rocks. Since you're ported...be sure to use all 6 HD springs, and get an EZ clutch lever...it'll be worth it.
  10. Sorry...know this is an old thread. http://www.tysonracing.com/contact.htm Did you get it running...how's it go?
  11. Oh...I've already talked to him a few times. I got my clutch from him, and we've chatted on the phone and via PM a few times. I figured about a month turn around time. I want a few weeks to get the money...but I don't want to be without my motor for 2 or 3 months... Loco turned me onto him...and he's truly a great guy for the site and our sport! Sorry Fernando for hijacking your thread...hopefully you're learning a little, too...
  12. 1 screaming... What was your turn around time with Jeff? I'm thinking of pulling off the top end and sending it out to him sometime this week...how backed up is he? Like someone else said in another post, Jeff is like OnStar for shee owners...great guy.
  13. He's right. I used to like my T5 pipes. Once I lightened the flywheel and put a timing plate on, went to +4...I LOVE THEM. I don't think I'd like my shee to have any more low end...I'd have to check it for a valvetrain and stop premixing if it did... There are sooo many articles on pipes here, it just all depends on what you want to do... I went with Toomey because they specialize in Banshees and Blasters. No one else can say that...except Rockets who only make Shee pipes, but...DRAG pipes esentially. I also read up...and most here agree the Toomey is a great all around pipe. Probably not the best in bottom, mid or top. But, I'll take a good all around pipe than one designed to do just one thing...in one spectrum of your powerband. If you NEVER plan on porting, T6 might be the way to go. But, I've had every intention of porting my shee since I bought it in Feb., so...I know I made the right choice with my T5s.
  14. I agree...T5 pipes. As said, get the flywheel lightened...Boonman does a great job, too. With T5s, lightented flywheel and +4...you dont' need a 2 into 1 carb or pipe setup...especially with that head. You'll have all the bottom end you need. Next stop would be reed cages, VForce 2 or 3...then dip into Porting to finish it off.
  15. Thanks...Ray. I'm very happy with my T5s as is. I was just looking for that extra...kick the crap out of my buddies 450R...edge. With porting, this might be the answer... As you said...just not as trail friendly as the T5s with my setup. I'm sure there are those out there that are just as good if not better. See ya soon...
  16. A stock 450 will beat a stock banshee. Pipe them both, and the shee will beat the 450. However...on a track, the 450 will blow by and rip the fenders off the shee. All the tree huggers are up in arms about two strokes. I hope the above post is right...once 5 or 6 years go by, and they see there is NO difference...they come back. They're not going to stop making competition 2 strokes...a la the dirt bikes...so, I don't see the point. Don't get me wrong. I think all this development of 4 strokes is a good thing. Competition always is. But, once the two stroke is gone...I hope they don't stop making them better...
  17. Sure will. I've only sanded the one down maybe 20%. I'll be sure to post up, though..... It is, as you can imagine, really, really time consuming.
  18. I'm gonna stick with my T5s. Honestly...If all I did was drag and dune, I'd get 'em. But, they hit your legs when you move around alot. There's no denying that. They hit harder and more noticably than my T5s...and, I put a 15 tooth on the front to boot, up one from my 14 stocker. It was harder to keep on the pipe. But, I like the more linear powerband my T5s gave. The jetting was spot on...I looked at the plugs...(once I let the beer kegs cool down.. ) For the trails that I ride, some open, some tight...the better off idle response in the T5s is better. Plus, you're still getting a quality top end, albeit not as much as the rockets. So...hey, I'm not saying they're a bad pipe at all. Even the black demos look cool as hell on the bike. I'm just saying that they're not the right pipe for me and how/where I ride. I'm glad Minkia lives so close to me to where I can drive a few minutes, pick 'em up and drop 'em off. He's really a great, nice guy for sure. I would say I'd like to try 'em again ...once I freshen up the top end and get my porting, but...truth is I still don't like hitting my legs on 'em...and the overall ergos of the pipes themselves. I'm going to sand down my pipes and repolish them. My buddy is buying the snap on polish kit and discs. I did a little section of the pipe, and it looks much, much better than it did.
  19. Actually....there's not a HUGE difference, from my initial ride anyways. If you want a good, clean set of Toomey's...this ain't the one for you. I'm going to scotch brite off all the rust I can, then try and polish out the chrome. I'll post pics in the for sale section here, before I go off to ebay. Again, IF I decide to buy Rockets.
  20. I agree...I figured as much. I already had mechanix gloves on. I played move the pipe, shut the gas off about 4 times before I got it shut off. I can deal with that and plugs...as I haven't fouled out a set yet. it's the ergos for riding I'll see if I can get used to, in just a few short hours...
  21. Was thinking of that. any leads?
  22. I have the T5s now...I have the loaner Rockets on now. I like the power. I have to ride for a day to see if I can stand the ergos of them... Will know tomorrow.... I'm going with Porting...gonna have Jeff @ FAST do it...when I feel like tearing it down for a month or so...
  23. Well boys...thanks for the ideas. I have the demo Rockets on now... Went for a quick ride...and, I'm mixed on 'em. Fast...yep. But, leg burners, harder to change plugs and forgetaboutit when it comes to shutting the fuel off. However, I only rode for literally 10 minutes. I'm going riding all day tomorrow, and I'll see how they fair....
  24. I went to my local stealership, and they acutally had the Vito's kit on the wall. It was about 17 bucks. Covers both sides and gets rid of those dreadful phillips. You can always ebay for a whole SS kit, but....for less than 20, you can get the two main parts that need 'em. If you have stock carbs, I'd replace those screws next...mine are about due. Check this out: Scroll down just past half way..you'll see the kit. Or...click on Hardware. First Item. http://www.vitosperformance.net/BANSHEE.HTM#HARDWARE It's item AK350 and it's 15.95. I love mine...esecially how many times I've taken off the flywheel side lately...(to adjust timing and gearing...)
