Actually...a non-blurry pic would be nice, but I think it's spot on. When it's that close, I usually throw one size larger main in it and call it a day.... The smoke ring on the porcelin looks good, it's really, really hard to tell how the ground strap is from the blurry pic, though.

Well...I feel for ya man. Total BS...he needs to make that right by you somehow....

What size domes, how much compression, and what octane gas are you running? Plugs backing out are a tell tale sign of detonation....and the motor is trying to tell you something. stop running that motor until you figure it out...or you're gonna have a lot bigger repair bill than just tightening spark plugs. And if the guy told you to just tighten them when the motor is cold, find a new builder/mechanic...he has no clue.

Crank is only as good as the maintenance and tuning done on the bike it runs in. A shattered or chunked up piston usually takes part of the crank with it...bearings or otherwise... Why are you breaking pistons would be my first question? Wrong tolerances, improper jetting, air leak??

I have their tranny, same one. It is great. However....the only complaint I've heard about WCR is response time.... If you already paid for the tranny, and paid to have it shipped overnight, then you have a very legitimate beef...for sure. I know on Planet Sand his screen name is yama007. Not sure if he is on HQ.... I think once you get the tranny you'll be more than happy...no excuse for the excuses and delays, though... He wasn't expecting your core first, was he??
-
Standards...when did you get those??
-
Shane...call me if you get time, please. I'd like a tracking number....thanks! Left you a VM at 2:30...
-
Hey...his name does end in "head"...LOL.... I'm not too worried about it on my 10 mil. My boy's run plenty of 10 mils on factory gears...they're just kinda icing on the cake. Those are just one more item on my one day, I'll have 'em list.
-
Agreed.... What...you haven't offered to cut me set of gears yet...you waiting on an invitation??? LOL...

Um....I just don't know what to say.... :yelrotflmao: :yelrotflmao: :yelrotflmao: :whistling:

Nice to see someone not only getting it done on the dyno...but back it up at the track as well. Nice numbers.... -

Thanks...Nate. And by small bores you mean the 65 and 68mm bore? Very good info to have...and share with all. -
You can clean up your own cylinders, it's not a big deal. The OEM cylinders typcially do not have the casting flaws aftermarket cylinders do. All you need is time and patience....and a dremel or other grinding device to work inside tight spaces in the cylinders. You're basically just smoothing out the passages where fuel/air flow through. Anything done to more efficiently get gas/air in and out of the engine will net performance gains...for the most part. Now...I"m not talking about getting a cheapy grinder and just going to town on your cylinders, unless you know what you're doing, that could be a recipe for disaster. But...a dremel tool, patience and good judgment to smooth out some bumps, flaws, etc. in your stock cylinders won't be a big deal.... I'm telling you...though...the right tool makes all the difference in the world.

I believe one of the stickies has an online manual. However, for less than 30 bucks from ebay, a dealer, etc., a clymer manual is pretty much the bible!!

Good discussion topic, Nate... I've always been a believer that a cub should be clean up ported before it gets to your door. I'm sure you've seen a 100X more cubs than I ever have, and every one of them needs the casting flaws removed...they're pretty rough...which is ok. However, once the clean up port is properly done...in your experience, how much extra HP have you gotten out of them. I've never seen with my own eyes more than 5 to 10 HP max, full on drag porting...on a dyno. And that with some pretty good time spent porting them. I'm not saying the cubs don't have room for a little improvement, out of the box porting is pretty damn good...but I don't think there is that much drastic room to make them that much better, dollar for dollar... What do you think?? I agree...Cascade is pretty much in a league of their own when it comes to polishing parts. I wish I had the extra coin to get a few more items on my bike polished up....they're amazing!!! Not a big fan of InlandATV. In the past...they've offered items on ebay, claiming them to be in stock. Then a phone call to them and they'll tell you they're a few weeks out from having the item on their shelves.... Now...I understand a big part of the business for some is dealer pricing from a distributor, then drop shipping the part...but, I'm pretty sure Inland is a CP distributor. If they're gonna advertise and sell an item on ebay, they should have it on their shelf....maybe I'm wrong. -
A 280 main and needle at the top (I assume you mean top, or last groove towards the blunt end) I used to have to add one main jet size when I went to Silver Lake. I'm anal about checking my plugs. When I'd trail ride they'd be perfect. A couple of rips at the dunes, they'd be just a hair lean. However, sand puts more of a load on your bike than dirt trails and knobbies do...so...take that for what it's worth. I'm not saying you're wrong. But...I've done a lot of banshees in MI, most notably south east MI. With pod filters and T5 pipes (which, in 05 when I had a stock motor with bolt ons) I ran 330 to 340 mains, 27.5 pilots...and would up them to 350 for Silver Lake. Every bike is different, but unless you've done a proper plug chop with that setup...my educated guess from experience would be that bike is lean... Do a plug chop: http://www.dfn.com/benkaren/plugchop.html

Calvin needs to stop making so many cylinders...or offer a lay a way system...it's just not fair!! LOL...

It's not about thinking...it's about riding the bikes back to back, same day...vs. other bikes down a 500ft (dirt) drag strip, over, and over...and over... And against the same bikes they just raced against the day before. Same track, etc. Whereas the 450s they raced against would get pulled on near the end of the track, say...350 to 500 feet, the 450s just hung and stayed instead of getting pulled on. Nothing about the noise...all about the true, real world, repetitive results.... Each bike is different, and yours I'm sure is no exclusion to that rule. In my own personal experience, however, with 2, not just 1 banshee...it proved otherwise.
-
Tight... It's gonna blow out or get packed up eventually from the unburned fuel AND oil being blown out the exhaust...breaking the packing down.
-
BS... I've ridden two bikes, before and after...and it robbed RPMs up top. Nothing else was done to the bikes, and they were jetted perfectly. I know Toomey likes to advertise this on his site, but it's pure BS. It will however, quiet the bike down BIG TIME...

If you mean assembling it together, you're more than right. I think this user just wants to buy parts, and assemble it himself. If that's the case...it's a 1/2 hour phone call (you know Jeff) and 1/2 hour to ship and box up parts. If you're looking for an actual builder to assemble it....good luck at this time of year.... -
Please tell me you don't mean you have those mods and a 190 main jet in stock carbs? If so...stop riding that bike.....that's leaner than stock jetting.
-
You can get fresh, drop in engines between 1000 and 1800. Ebay, members on here, etc.. There is a member here, YFZ450, selling a fresh stock bore, stock port motor with a 4 mil stroker crank, he's parting out the bike...see if he still has the motor...

Thanks...
