What ever you do, DO NOT USE WISECO PISTON RINGS WITH STOCK BANSHEE PISTONS!!! The lower piston ring is a different size then the upper ring on a stock piston. The Wisecos are both the same size, which creates too much free-play in the lower ring and this is what happens!!! Check out the pics of my cylinders! http://s106.photobucket.com/albums/m261/ltzryder21/

I can get the left side (the cracked one) replaced for $150+new bore on both sides!

should i port or head?

a port job will give you the most power! You won't really notice too much with a noss heas w/domes. The bike will perform better, but won't have more power! With a port job, you will for sure notice a huge increase in power! My $.02 -
After talking to a few professional techs and shops, I've come to the conlusion that the cause of my problem is because you CANNOT run wiseco rings on stock banshee pistons! The stock bottom rings are thicker then the upper rings! On a wiseco ring set, both rings are the same size. This is why both BOTTOM rings on my bike slipped and cracked! Be sure to put this out to everyone because I know there are others who are running wisecos on stock pistons!

The left side is cracked and un fixable! There is nothing wrong with the crank! The crank is already trued and welded. I am just going to try to find cheap used stockers!
-
On the side that the piston snapped, it didn't catch the exhuast port! It caught the bottom of the intake port whiched cracked. I don't think I can resleeve with it being cracked like that! The other side, the bottom ring spun around creating bad clearance and gauged out every port on that side! Now I know for sure it wasn't the exhaust port and I know it wasn't because of the port job! Kevin Herr has been porting for years and know what he's doing. He has ported plenty of bikes the same way and with even bigger exhaust ports and has never seen this! If asswhore is correct, then make sure we post out on HQ for people not to buy wiseco rings with stock pistons! PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF ANYONE HAS STOCK CYLINDERS UP FOR GRABS! Thanks!

Here's what happened. Let me know if anyone has ever experienced this!!!! I got my motor ported a few months back! I had the cylinders honed and was still at stock bore! 64mm. I bought brand new wiseco 64mm piston rings for a fresh top end! Pistons were in great shape as well as the cylinders! Looked brand new except the bitchin port job I got done! Well after everything was put together, the bike ran great and was fast as hell! Just what I expected! I had about 4 or 5 trips to the desert with that motor and wanted more power. So I was going to get shearer pipes and a bigger port done. (Mine you, the bike is still running bad ass. took it out last weekend) Well I sold my T-5's and was ready to tear the motor down. I pulled it apart yesterday. This is what I found: On the left side, the lower piston ring snapped. One end of it bent down about 1/4 inch and was pressed into the side of the piston. That cylinder is now cracked at the bottom of the intake port and the intake port is gauged in all four corners. That cylinder is ruined! On the other side, the bottom piston ring managed to spin itself around, moving the opening of the ring where the little pin goes, to the other side. Thus making the piston ring wider than the cylinder! Every port on that side is gauged and the exhaust port is the worst! Both cylinders are ruined. No bore can fix these. I have no idea how this happened! I used 64mm rings on a 64mm cylinder. I made sure I measured the gap in the piston ring. The bike was running rich, so I know I didn't burn anything! Has this ever happened to anyone before? I posted some pics! Here's the link: http://s106.photobucket.com/albums/m261/ltzryder21/ IF ANYONE HAS STOCK CYLINDERS THAT THEY ARE SELLING OR KNOW OF ANYWHERE I CAN GET SOME FOR CHEAP, PLEASE LET ME KNOW AND SEND A PM MY WAY! I NEED ALL THE HELP I CAN GET! THANKS!

I should be there that weekend! I'll be camping with kevsws6 in wash 8!

I just bought a set of 21x12x8 haulers! I got an 8 paddle. Do you think there is a huge difference between an 8 and a 10 paddle? I hope I like them!
-
How much of a difference did you notice after getting your shock reworked? Were you able to go thru woops a lot faster???
-
Yeah I understand the concept! The same thing happened when I put an extended swing arm on my 50. that's why it came with an 800lbs spring! I am going to adjust my shock and see how much it will stiffen! It was soft before the swing arm and I don't think it's too much softer! If it comes down to it, I'll just buy a new spring! How many others have a +4 swing arm??? What did you do??? Here's a pic! http://s106.photobucket.com/albums/m261/lt...mgAnch=imgAnch3
-
I just put a +4 swing arm I bought off ebay from the swing arm shop! I noticed when I compress the rear end of the bike, it is a lot softer and may bottom out when I am riding! Has any else had this problem? What do I need to do to stiffen it up or is it going to be okay?

You're on the wrong thread!!! I'd say the best all around sand tire is the ITP sand stars! They are a great tire for duning and are always being sold for really cheap prices! You can't go wrong there! If you want a drag or hill shooting tire, go with the skat trak haulers! For your motor you'd want an 8 paddle. I just bought some off RMATV for $199 shipped! That is a great price! Buy two sets, sand stars and haulers, You'll be set!
-
Yeah I was suprised on how fast it was! Kevin Herr really knows what he's doing when it comes to porting! Now I just need some 35's and pod filters!!!
-
I am selling my stock head, carbs, and reeds off my 2004 banshee!!! All are in great shape!!! $150 takes all! Make an offer on individual items! Must sell, buying haulers and need cash!!! PM me for questions and offers!!!

Jeremy, after seeing your bike go from sand stars to haulers, I just bought a pair off RMATV! Now we will be even up the hill.....well close I should say! I got a set of 21x12x8 8 paddle on blue label rims for $199 shipped!!! Next trip, halloween!!!
