  1. Flushing the system is probably a good thing. I would just use tap water though. I have heard the vinegar thing, but I think it might be an urban legend. I have never seen anyone do it nor have I heard about it from anyone who deals with engines for a living. The people I have heard it from were usually less than mechanically inclined and didn't work on their vehicles themselves for the most part.
  2. There are a bunch of those types of people in San Diego as well, though they do not seem to be allowed to leave the downtown area. San Fransisco was on my list of places to go on the vacation I could never seem to take when I lived in SoCal.
  3. From what I have read around here so far is that the only problems with the axle loosening are a direct result of improper installation or some some sort of general state of retardation by the owner of the bike. :geek:
  4. Are aby of them faster to get through than others? Here is a picture of my new place.
  5. The French tend to make things more difficult. I wonder if the turbo kit will have to take the four summer months off from working as well?
  6. I rarley have those kind of ideas. I may need to look into printing this thread out and having it framed. I would also like ot point out that powder coating a sealing surface aslo does not work too well. There are a couple people around here that have done that and learned why it's not a good idea the slightly more difficult way.
  7. I enjoy Quad magazine, Sandsport, Sand Addiction, Cutting Tool Engineering, Racecar Engineering, SAE Automotive, and RaceTech. I the latter four magazines are specific to my profession and may or may not be of interest. Cutting Tool Engineer is a free trade journal that caters to the metal cutting industry. I wrote an article or two that were published there a few years ago. Every once in awhile you will see my name, picture, or an article contributed to by me pop up in the SAE magazine as well as Racecar Engineering and RaceTech. Racecar Engineering and RaceTech are UK publications that can be bought at most Barnes and Noble stores, but they are sort of expensive. If racing technology is of any interest to you, you ought to atleast buy a copy of each once and check it out. Those two magazines are possibly the best written magazines published that lend themselves to vehicle technology. I am sure I will grow a bit of a different subscription list in the next few years that relate to my new job a bit more, but until then the magazine above are my reccomendations.
  8. I would remove the PC from the areas the bolts contact with a razor blade if it were me. I would hate to see the PC to loosen or deteriorate over taim and allow a fastener to come loose.
  9. I have some chunky stuff you might like to look at. Would you like me to send it to you? I'll put some belly button lint in there as well, maybe you can figure out where that comes from. :yelrotflmao: :yelrotflmao:
  10. That is definitely one of the all time great BansheeHQ threads. What's even better is that I presented that graph and a drawing that Stan made me of a cron fed harvest mouse to a group of non-english speaking Japanese students that toured my old facility for a week. It was very hard to keep a straight face during the PowerPoint presentation. One of my engineers then backed up my welcoming presentation with a presentation about CNC machining in the 1500's. The castles and oxen powered computers were the highlights of the presentation as I recall. :woot:
  11. I suppose there is no point in me saying this, but not all Avgas is oxygenated. Not all Avgas is the same. Make sure you know what your buying and that the octane rating of AVgas tends to be by a different method than pump or race fuel. PLease do a search of this forum on this topic as it will definitrly yield some good information and a bit of entertainment. Once you do that you will see where I stand on the issue. Screaming Yellow Zonker, your name makes me giggle.
  12. The Vito's version of the Wiseco Super Stock pistons which I think you are referring to will probably not give you much noticeable power increases. You may however find that your repair bill increases as the pistons in question have a rather modified skirt that lends itself to fracturing fairly easily. In either case you won't need to change your carbs with the exception of maybe fooling around with the jetting, but even that might not be necessary.
  13. I personally will not run anything over a +4" arm on a bike that is going to be agressively dune, trail, or MX ridden no matter what engine is in it. I am a big enough guy and a good enough rider that I can control the bike as I need to with a +4" arm. The down side to a longer arm is that it makes your turning radius larger and your attitude when jumping worse. For the most part you can get a shock to deal with most suspension setups satisfactorily these days, therefore ride quality is not an issue if you are willing to throw some cash at the problem. Traction can simply be a function of suspension setting, tires, and gearing. All of which can be sorted out with regard to your swingarm length. A cub motor for serious MX use is a poor choice and probably isn't worth talking about. If you built a cub motor to go ride at the MX track you are better off selling it and getting a properly setup stock cylinder motor or a Cheetah motor. Trying to figure out the swingarm length for that sort of application with that motor is a problem that has no solution. No matter what length arm you get my big ass on a well setup Blaster will lap you all day long because you will spend all your time either trying to get traction or trying to get in the powerband.
  14. I am in the land of ports this evening and even yesterday evening. However, I am still in a hotel because National Van Lines are dirty, slutty, hookers. I would get a DID ATV Gold X-Ring Chain.
  15. Both are good axles with great warranties. It all depends on what waiting that am ount of time is worth $80. Maybe you can fine a coupon somewhere to make up some of that difference.
  16. I take it that you weren't interested in the indian casino hooker then? :ermm:
  17. The real problem here is that I may have been confusing WSM pistons and Namura pistons in my head. Don't ask how I manage such things.
  18. I got your PM and replied to it. I will work on this for you in the next couple days.
  19. Weird and chunky in the OEM Banshee radiator = tap water use or leaky head gasket. I suppose you could have used coolant that already had chunky stuff in it, but I didn't think they sold that anywhere besides Japan (small joke). :ermm:
  20. Sounds like some latent homosexuality talking to me.
  21. I agree. Your $40 would be better spent on an indian casino hooker.
  22. Assuming that we are talking about West Los Angeles and not Louisiana, the link below is my reccomendation. I have used the guy for all kinds of stuff. He is the best crankshaft repair guy/facility in the business. He got about $30k of my old company's money last year. http://www.marinecrankshaftinc.com/ If you just need a weld job done to the pins and notheing else, I would be happy to call the owner and see if he might find it in his best interest to help you out for free.
  23. Do a search for WSM in the Images forum on this site. I am not saying they are bad, just others seem to have had spotty luck with them. I have never used them myself. If your are interested I encourage you to check it out. Wiseco pistons are my reccomendation.
  24. I agree. I doubt that setup is putting more than 70hp to the ground.
