I suggest Eric Gorr. Only because ive had very good experiences with his woods (midrange) port job. Several people on this board has ran his porting, they have nothing but good things to say about it.

I think opinions will vary with location. Myself, I prefer someone local. You can avoid shipping, talk to the builder, and most likely rub elbows with other customers. There are quite a few notable engine builders in the NW, but Patriot Racing and Redline Racing seem to have the best word of mouth. I had mine done at Redline, partly, because it's onlly 15 miles from my house.

Not to bash this site at all, because there is some really great information here...sometimes, people will recommend stuff that they don't have any personal experience themselves. So, often times a specific brand tends to get overhyped IMHO because a handful of 'popular' members feel one way or the other.

Honestly, I'd talk to people that ride locally at the same spots you do. Many times, they'll even let you ride their bike and you can feel first hand what someone's work is like.

I paid $250 for my portwork at Patriot too. It's easier for someone to charge a cheaper price for port work that just isn't as labor intensive. A woods port to me wood be one of the easiest, these isn't a whole lot to be done, you just need the knowledge to do what needs to be done the right way. The MX port I had done on my RZ didn't cost as much because the port layout of RZ motors is SO much better than a Banshee's stock. A triple exhaust drag port I have seen go up to almost $1000. It's hard to put all port work in a basket based on just price alone.

Don't take any of that as a bash on Gore even in the slightest little bit. His work seems to be top notch. I have ridden with Spoin who I do believe had his work done by Gore and his bike rips(actually I think he knows him.)

Best of luck, a search on this subject probably would be almost useless, it has been discussed so many times it would take you days just to go through the results.

250 is a good deal. I used to charge $200 back in the day. Porting two jugs is not easy. You got to make molds to make sure they match. I had a flow bench to measure vacuum through the cylinders. whats funny is stock cylinders always showed a difference through the transfers.

I'll second the vote for Patriot. Dan did a great job for me. Also, a lot of my friend's have cylinders done by Cam at Redline. His stuff is top notch also. I live in the beautiful Pacific NorthWest, so I try to stay local.

Cam just built me a 4mm motor 2 weeks ago, and it just screams. He and Dan are good friends from what I gather. 76 HP on pump gas with stock carbs for me. I'm more than pleased with my bike.

Make sure you get the port work you need for the type of riding you do.If you just dune or trail ride, then you should probably stay away from the drag ports.Be very specific to who ever does your porting what type of riding you do.Getting the crank welded is also a good idea.RDZ done my porting. He's high compared to some, but I'm very happy with the results.Stock carbs. do fine with mild porting.Although bigger carbs. help more on top end.Make up your mind the type of engine you want and don't let someone talk you into something you don't.

I just got my cylinders back from Gorr. I have only been able to just get into third gear in my back yard before Im hard on the brakes. The only thing I can do is smile!!!! I cant wait to get out and open her up

I have been debating on who to do the port work for the last year. I really believe that if you get port work done by any builder metioned on this board you wont be disappointed.
