BenBB Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 Simple answer: wage slave. Somewhat more elaborate answer: Work for a small, heavy construction company and do a little bit of everything. I do all the parts finding/ordering/shipping/receiving for a fleet of about 125 machines from 763 Bobcats to our 3 new flagship Cat 623G scrapers. We do alot of earthwork, primarily dairies but have done plenty of ponds including HDPE lining, some highway work, excavation, etc. We also sell Valley center pivot irrigation systems, trench & install irrigation pipelines, sell several lines of tractors & implements (Massey-Ferguson, Long, White, Bush Hog, etc.). It's actually 2 sister companies, one does earthwork and pipelines, the other sells machinery and parts. So I do ALL the purchasing for both, point of sale for customers, install & maintain the computers & small LAN, do some repairs on the more "techie" stuff like laser system cabling, CAD design and project estimation, and spend alot of free time online. Was in college for Mechanical engineering but had other obligations, but where I'm at isn't too bad. Relatively low stress, some free time, half decent location, just wish there were more babes coming in instead of the typical farm hand that struggles with English... Quote

holeshotkid Posted January 6, 2004 Report Posted January 6, 2004 anyone know of a job in central kansas area??? . I might know of a shop that is looking for help. What do you consider to be central Kansas? As far as what I do, that's highly classified information. If I told you, I'd have to hunt down and kill each and everyone of you. Honestly, I just don't have that kind of time on my hands. Quote

-Turbo- Posted January 6, 2004 Report Posted January 6, 2004 I'm a Network Engineer for the City of Biloxi, MS during the day. At night I build homes, currently my own which don't pay much, actually its costing me out the ass and I plan to stay in debt for the rest of my life. I've done alot and I'm sure that before its all over I will do plenty more. Make the real dough taking care of a couple of Networks outside of the city and plan to take more on once the house is finished. For the younger guys, for instance the one that runs the eqiuipment or however you spelled it, if you cannot spell equipment drunk off your rear just as I am, do better in school, trust me, your life will be easier for it. For the Unix administrator, I thought all you guys did was learn new switches to do something that would normally take 1/3 of a second to click on, lol. All kidding aside, I have the respect for you guys, not everyone can do what you do and mostly won't even admit it if asked, hehe Quote
Chemical Castration Posted January 6, 2004 Report Posted January 6, 2004 I'm a student and attempting to open up a couple of businesses. Some of you know one of em but the other one is a restaurant that im still debating whether or not its worth it But I feel that if in 6 months shit doesnt work out I can just cut my losses and collect the insurance money from the mysterious fire lol j/k But seriously I do think opening up a food place would be good for me to learn about business and help me see how the real world is, and not just what they teach me in school.
