  1. You didn't put the equalizer tube back on between the carbs...also known as the choke tube...1/4" x2" long.....goes in between the 2 carbs....could have disconnected when you pulled the carbs off w/o you knowing.
  2. Changing the oil ratio doesn't fix the problem....You should be able to run it 32:1 w/ no problems...I'd say you have a clogged pilot....How did you clean them? I'd use a air compressor and blow all the little ports out...Backfiring is a lean condition, I'd be careful and take this seriously, you might have an air leak or just a clogged jet, either way, find the problem...could save you a top end.
  3. You can't really tell a plug check from idle to midrange.. I always have a black or dark plug when riding, but my plugs lighten when I open it up for long periods. The main jet ONLY controls wide open throttle and you should only adjust the mains for wide open throttle. normal riding will only give false readings, wait till you have the shee broken in, then do a wot run in 6th gear for 5-10 seconds. You'll see a different plug....Looking at your jetting and the passion motor, I'd say your close...maybe rich on the mains, but better to start rich and work down...
  4. I'd start w/ a 185 or larger mains. 58 pilots and go from there...Thats what I run in mine w/ PTR mids and a 4 mil stroker...
  5. I'd say lean the needle out. Lower the needle by raising the clip towards the blunt end....
  6. PTR mids, hands down the best overall pipe I've ever owned, tuned and ridden.
  7. I also have no experience w/ DG exhaust, but I'd expect around a 280-300 main also. I'd also try moving the needle into the 4th clip and go from there. If your shee likes it, then go up on the needle some more. Find the sweet spot....If the shee starts hard when cold, then try a larger pilot.
  8. If that was a wide open run in 6th gear, then I'd say your perfect on the lighter plug....You can see where half you strap is black and the other half is brown, that means your perfect and running the most power and still be safe for long pulls...thats what my plugs always look like when I'm jetted perfect.
  9. Yea, you better get a new shock, I don't want to hear excuses of the "Banchetta" wipping your ass again...... hehe....I haven't even started or even washed my shee since Coalfest neither. I definately need a vaca. Worked the last 70 days straight and no day off this weekend or week to come....Maybe the next weekend....A list of numbers for the camping areas or even maybe someone could try to get us a group discount????? I definately like to have clean shitters especially if the family goes this time...Other than that, I'm game for any date and anyplace....3rd or 4th weekend of Sept. sounds decent. Anyone else have some preferences? Let decide on date and start working forward. I'll try to post and get on here more often to help get this going...We only have about 7-8 weeks left...
  10. Cool, this is exactly what we need, is a little help from a local....We could use some info on db levels, hotel and camping areas, accessability of high octane gas, food, parts etc.....can we camp in the dunes or do we have to get motels or setup at a camp ground?? John, I've been hanging around Walter too long...... What about you Meat? ARe you game? Boonman, Fixitrod, Benbb, Chase73, NYUK, Walter, Jon370, Hang1400......I don't want just a get together, I want a SANDFEST!!!!!! It'll have to be in September sometime...August will be too last minute....
  11. Lets get a big get together in Silver Lake in September or October, we talked about it at Coalfest, but we have to start prepping now....What does everyone think?
  12. As far as I know, Duncan and a couple of other places only sell Pt's..Duncan sells them for $525 (last I knew) and Team Alba sells them for $499....Dont' buy anything from Golden West.....They still owe me $800........
  13. Do they have variable exhaust?
  14. Get some twin pods. Then you'll have both and decide from there. If you don't like them, then sell them. I thought about switching to the twin setup, but I got my stock box to work awesome. Just take some customizing. I have to pull my rear fenders off now to rejet, but I jet it in one day and don't worry about it...If you do get the twin pods, get the angled ones. The straight ones don't fit for shit and rub the exhaust on the left side....Like Rod said,Walter get them from K&K, Walter said they had them when I was at roostfest...
  15. I'd disconnect both the parking brake and the "brain module" above the left exhaust. Eliminate the possibilities...Don't lean out the oil any more, I run 28:1 w/ little smoke...Others do it, but I wouldn't recommend any leaner than 40:1....Try moving the needles to the 2nd notch from the blunt end to see if that helps. If not, then I'd look at the reeds.....make sure you check the oil level in the tranny to make sure your not sucking oil from the tranny, if you are then you have a blown crank seal.
  16. The mids worked great at the dunes. Thought I'd get my ass kicked, but they held thier own, I wish I had the other intakes mods to go w/ the stroker though. Would have represented the East coast pretty well... So far, these have been the best pipes I've owned for my type of riding. I don't go for the "light switch" powerband, nor do I strictly race.....These pipes really put the power to the ground w/ minimal tire spin and hard pull w/ a smooth powerband....Even though I've set my shee up for technical hill climbs and trails, there is only a couple of shees that'll take it w/ my new setup, but I want a rematch w/ the new intake mods...... Don't let that "midrange" title fool you. You get less revs, but more torque...
  17. What kind of oil and mixture are you running? Hows the oil level in the tranny? have you tried different needle heights? might want to drop them down one notch....What about the tors? Have you tried disconnecting that ? Little black box above the left exhaust, unplug the 3 wire plug....also disconnect the parking brake switch....
  18. Try raising your needles...makes a big difference on that hesitation before powerband..
  19. This has only happened since the pipes.......Did you put the choke tube back on between the two carbs? 1/4"x2" long.....
  20. I'll 5th that oppinion. STuck float valves in the carbs....make sure you get the gas out of the lower end as well, you'll be able to top that bucket off....
  21. The skirt broke from the pieces on top of the pistons melting down the sides and creating clearence issues....It definately got hot, but only one side..Looks like you had an air leak of some sort. Doesn't look like detonation to me...more of a lean condition or maybe even lack of oil.....
  22. Possibilities: Blown head gasket allowing antifreeze in which will make the shee smoke white and smell kinda sweet. or: blown crank seal on the clutch side which would allow oil into the cylinders causing them to burn bluish black color or: you could have a broken reed petal which would cause the shee to run extremely rich..
  23. Isn't that stock needles?? In a Keihin carb.......Try some cgl, cel, cgk, or cek needles....but you should have had one of them to start....where did you get the carbs? ebay?
  24. sounds like a good starting point...maybe rich on the pilots, but try it out..
