WTF! Fouling plugs, idle messed up, engine seized?
Banchetta replied to PolyKarbon's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Too late, if it siezed, you most likely need a rebuild. Chances of not scoring the cylinder after a sieze is very slim to none...at least I've never seen it. -
closer to the blunt end.
-
Sounds good, I built my shee for the same reason.... Local competition and hill climbing...we have some pretty good riders, so we push ourselves harder and harder, why not try to get the edge... I just thought I'd let you know. I spent $1600 for my stroker, (pistons, crank, porting, transfers, NOSS head), later I ended up spending another $800 for intake mods that I didn't plan on....so plan on that as well,if you don't have the intake mods, then you won't gain shit....maybe 2-3hp. The intake mods gave my another 10hp..

magicracing.com They are out of Michigan.

I've done some research on those and went to other forums asking around...A lot of people that tried them said there was no gain, but I didn't get a lot of feedback neither. (3 people). So then I called the company directly and wanted to see if they'd donate or let me try a set on the dyno. I offered to pay for them as long as I could return them if I didn't like them. They wouldn't send me a set to return after.....If they were so confident, then why not..... So I stopped there...I can tell you that the v-force made a HUGE difference on my stroker, my builder said they actually see time gains at the drags w/ the v-force also..I ended up buying some pyramids and really like them, but I haven't tested them on the dyno yet..

Everybody hit this right on the nose....like gurny said. Take the snorkel off!!! Your losing some serious hp....I'd even cut the last 1.5" off the end of the air box lid right behind the clips so you still have all 4 clips holding it on.
-
Raise the needle.
-
I found my graph w/ the stock carbs vs. the 35mmpwk's....This was also w/ the larger intake and v-force reeds, you'll notice how much torque the intakes and reeds gave me over the ported stock cages and stock intake..I went from 58hp to 63hp and went from 36lbs or torque to 41...
-
175 mains, 58 pilot, and needle in the 4th clip from the blunt end....let me know how it reacts.
-
The reeds will affect the pilot and needle circuit the most. You have to play around w/ them. If your shee seems to like the air screw .5 turn out from seated, then try a larger pilot, if the air screw likes to be 2.5 turns out from seated then try a smaller pilot...once you get the idle down, then try leaning out the needles one clip.

Most builders just use the same specs as everyone else. I can't remember my specs exactly, I just threw them away last week to and the trash is out....sorry. As far as running 28's for carbs, don't bother, go to 35's or 34's......I gained more bottom end power than top end w/ the larger carbs....trust me, I spent a lot of hours on the dyno w/ my stroker so far and will be doing a couple more things...I have low end to mx porting as well. I was interested in torque and not hp....

High rev pipes are harder to get that low end bog out, but can be done... I played w/ JKJK's shee when we went to Roostfest..He has T5's. It went pretty damn good when I finally jetted it in....Jetting is everything when it comes to that low end lag...especially w/ the high revs..If you really wanted power at the fingertips then you should have bought some PT mids....anyone who has ridden my shee can not believe the low end, but you already have the T5's...Try a cool head....the high rev pipes will tend to not match your port timing and thats what gives your lag. Raise the compression and that'll help out a lot depending on how much you raise it...the higher compression will affect port timing as well as help match the pipe...Dave at NOSS helped my out w/ my shee when I put my stroker in, made a nice difference and took care of my lag before the powerband..

You say you siezed it, then I'd do a compression test. Go to a automotive store and get a compression guage. Snap-on or Craftsman are the better ones, but anything is better than nothing. They cost around $25-50....check both sides w/ the throttle wide open...That'll let you know how well the rings are sealing and whether or not you need to rebuild it.... Your saying that its revving out which tells me that you have an air leak like others have mentioned, that will cause your motor to sieze. You have some home work to do. Let us know what you find. -
Yup, still using them and loving em....I've ridden a few other strokers and I just can't give them up...I might be trying a set of rockets when I go to Sandfest in sept.... You'll be looking at some serious money when you go to a stroker. You have to change the whole intake setup for the larger carbs as well as reed cages or your gains will be very minimal..
-
If your talking about the pinging in the header pipes, then thats normal. If it seems to ping really heavy before powerband, then thats carb sync....
-
Agreed, 6th gear puts more load on the motor and will lean out more than in 4th gear...I run my shee in 6th gear for 5-10 seconds....If jetted right, you should be able to run it for a mile w/o even worrying about it...
-
Everything I've tested and learned w/ the stock stroke was out the door when I put my stroker in.....I tried 4 different carbs from stock to dual 35's and the larger the carb, the better the performance from bottom to top....So if I was you, go w/ the duals... The stroker demands some serious air...
-
choke tube between the carbs.....make sure you put that back on...
-
If you ride a lot of trail, then go for the PJ's, they have a lot better throttle response as far as smoothness....The PWK's are better for wide open areas and dragging, but I"m impressed w/ my PJ's and like them better for my type of riding...why don't you just try them both and judge for yourself. Just remember, the jetting is totally different between the two....selling the PJ's... where the hell were you 3 months ago??!!!!!

Minkia, do you know of any other campgrounds or places we can all stay at??? Recommend? We need to get some phone #'s and start calling around...also, you should bring a set of them Rocket pipes to the dunes....you might interest me...

We have a bunch of us going and are planning right now under" Sandfest in Sept."....Right now we have a date set for Sept. 18-19. I'll be there 1-2 days before and might stay till Monday...
-
Seems like everyone wants that date....OK, Sept. 18-19 it is.....Lets go for that date.....Now everyone can get that date off. Its only 6 weeks away. I'm going to run my stock silencers to get in, but I'll bring my Fat Boys w/ me...I'll have to repack em... Lets get a set on a campground now....Could some of you locals or die hards check that out...Lets agree on one and get some arrangements going...I'd like to leave 1 or 2 days prior so I can settle down and enjoy the trip...Hang1400, it'd be great if you and Jon go. I haven't seen you guys all summer...Jon missed my awesome roll over at Coalfest.... Should have stayed..
-
Cut domes....Dave at Noss made me a few sets to try. I tested the sets for him...made a difference on my shee....I had the spacer before that...that sucks..I"m also running the long rod in mine....
-
Maybe one size larger, but you really need a K&N or aftermarket filter to start needling more fuel for the stock pipes....240-250 w/ a K&N
-
I'd try a set of 27.5's...one step size at a time....going to rich, to fast can do the opposite....flooding out all the time and fouling plugs would suck.
