  1. I would do a plug test w/ that setup....The larger pilots will probably work a little better w/ the porting...
  2. I've used lazer temp guages and got equivilant readings on the cylinders and pipes.....Maybe its a 2 into 1 pipe reason, but I've also got same amount of buildup in my cylinders too........this is abnormal from what I've seen...
  3. sounds like your a little rich on the pilot, try that 45, if you see a big improvement then try a 42
  4. 2-300 degrees and not worried.........I would get a second oppinion, mine sais something isn't right
  5. Try it at an idle, I'm sure you will see more accurate results. It takes the motor a few seconds to adjust to air/fuel mix of different throttle positions, riding it will make it hard to tell between the needle and pilot
  6. I'd try 330 mains, stock pilot, needle 4th clip from the blunt end
  7. compression is good, but boggs out after riding for a while.....Is your gas tank vented properly?? Are you getting plenty of fuel before the carbs?, The petcock could be plugged....
  8. Dave cut me some domes for my long rod stroker....I got rid of the spacer plate....
  9. Best way I adjust my pilots is to warm it up, let it idle...Punch the throttle to see how fast it revs up and whether it hesitates, stalls out, or sputters....Try this w/ the air screw at .5 turns out, the try it at 2.5 turns out....let me know which way is better...
  10. .017-.019
  11. I bet I can get your jetting very close....Fixitrods bike is the same motor w/ the same pipes, reeds, etc.....His jetting was pretty close to mine, so I'll hook you up closely.....I would have bidded in a larger increment for ebay at the last second...If it normally jumps up at 1.00, I would have bidded $5....In case someone bidded the same time as you, but you have the higher amount....
  12. Pressure test....6lbs for 6 minutes...If you lose pressure, then you can apply soap water to the gaskets to find the leak...The air leaking out will make bubbles....You won't be able to do that w/ a vacuum test....Don't put more pressure than 6psi....
  13. There has been 4-5 situations of vandalism at night....someones been breaking windows of the loaders, stole the company trucks and did burnouts w/ them, etc, etc.....I don't think its a quad owner as much as some neighborhood punks....But whenever something happens, they take it out on the atvs.......I hope they catch the little bastards.....
  14. You mostly notice pin knocking at lower rpms when you have a load on the motor....Porcelain color can vary just by changing the needle position so I never use that to determine the main jets....Try this....run it for awhile to get some color on them, like old plugs, than run it wide open in 6th gear for 5-10 seconds, shut it down, coast to a stop, pull the plugs..Get the strap at the end of the plug to a chocalate brown color. If your worried about detonation, then look at the outside of the ring for any aluminum speckles...This will be pieces of the piston...
  15. My bike that I just sold about 2 weeks ago....Nothing like pulling 85mph out of 1st gear.......or 186mph out of 6th...
  16. I would still do a leakdown test...ONce you make a tester, you'll always have it and use it....it'll also give you peace and mind....
  17. Just ride it easy for the first couple of tanks of gas and run rich on the jetting...You'll be fine..
  18. You can get any piston and just shave the head .030 and get the same gain...don't feel like those pistons are the only way to gain easy power.....You can't use them w/ porting..
  19. Try this. Start the shee, run it around until warm. turn the air screws in to about .5 turns out from seated...From an idle, punch the throtte wide open....Does it rev up right away? Stall?, take a couple of seconds then rev up?? Now adjust the air screw to 2.5 turns out and repeat the process. Does it rev up faster and cleaner at .5 turns out or 2.5 turns out??
  20. Did you run the shee wide open in 6th gear for 5-10 seconds, shut it down, coast to a stop and pull the plugs? If not, then you'll get false readings....
  21. banshee has around 37hp stock at sea level.....400ex has 24hp stock...26hp w/ a pipe.......
  22. Doesn't sound good, I'd look internally first.....like a compression test, at least that would eliminate any motor problem, then take the next step..
  23. compression....
