UPDATE: I landed some 304 Stainless on Friday evening. Equivalent to about $1,000. For FREE!!! Instead of 1/2" tick, I went 3/8". A little more manageable, and less weight. Just as sturdy too. I have 4 pcs. 23.5" x 96". I could have had 144" long pieces, but I opted for the 96" and then kept the 48" pieces which I will be using for mobile tool cart/bench. 10" backdrop at the back of the bench, so tools can't find their way falling. loaded it all up on the trailer with a crane, and then unloaded it all by hand. by myself, which sucked. Oh well, got it all in the shop. Now I just have to whip up some frames, and presto!!! Workbenches!!!!! I can't wait. I was in there, like a kid in a candy store. Or, a fabricator in a steel distributors building, with free reign.........

You run the least amount of octane your motor can handle without pinging. (detonationg, pre-igniting). If you are running "race fuel" or high octane fuel as it really is, and you don't have the proper compresison for it, you are wasting your time. It will not burn at the correct time that your ignition tells it too. Octane is a number given to notify purchasers of it's resistance to detonation. That's all. It will not make your motor faster, or give you more power. It is a popular misconception. And don't go firing off about a highly oxygenated fuel. We are not talking about that. There is a fuel for every application. If your motor is pinging, run a little higher octane. If it pings still, run a little higher. if you can't stop it from pinging, your squish is probably improper. it's not necessarily the speed at which the flame front travels, but the time it takes to ignite the mixture. Higher compression is needed to ignite higher octane fuels properly. It is designed that way. Speed of the flame front is part of it, but the ignition is the important factor in the timing department. It's all in your head. Put it against the clock. I have never found any research on this, but I would like to see a stock bike, draggin, run pump fuel, and then run race fuel, and see what the difference is.... I would bet it would be either the same, or the race fuel would slow you down.

The timing would be way off, you would experience backfiring, poor power, ort the engine would not run at all. You should know, you already "sheded" (sheared) one. My guess is it happened again. Octane does nothing for your jetting requirements. Unless you are runing an oxygenated high octane fuel (which I am sure someone would have brought that up just to be a dick) in which the fuel has a higher oxygen content therefore needing you to richen up the jetting a slight amount. Octane is a number that lets you know the fuels resistance to detonation, pre-ignition, or commonly referred to as spark knock...

The correct height is one that fills the bowl enough that it doesn't overflow....

Now, be sure you do the backcut BEFORE you round off the edges. 1/2" carbide endmill is REQUIRED. The star is Hardened. a HSS mill will NOT work.
