  1. Well, that is definitely bad news. I have found the same thing on one occassion before. You could have done one of two things. You could have either snapped a ring off the piston,. or it threw a rod bearing. There was debris in there and it was getting hammered by the piston. If you heard no knocking, and didn't mention any odd noise, so I am assuming that the bearing didn't let go. When my lower rod bearing went, it locked up the motor. 5th gear!!! Anyways, you have to rip the motor out. You MUST split the cases to clean everything out. If it was just a ring that came off, I am betting that it didn't get into the lower end. They usually don't. but, you can never be too safe. You will need to clean the crank thoroughly. And while your at it, get it welded. You will have to get it bored, and get a new top end kit. When you get the cylinder(s) off, give a couple tugs on the piston and rod assembly and check for up and down play, this would indicate that a bearing had failed. I would clean the motor off, and pull the whole thing out. It isn't tough. Split the cases, (also not too tough) and inspect everything. I tried to get by without splittign the cases when I blew a hole in a piston. Shortly thereafter, the crank threw a lower rod bearing due to some debris that had gotten down in there.....
  2. If you want reverse, than you will have to graft your JB welded blaster crankshafts to a warrior transmission. In that case, you might just as well be better off riding a Honda.......
  3. Ahemmmm!!! *cough* You should "borrow" one from work........
  4. It also allows you to run MX bend bars. ATV bars are taller, thus a shorter stem on the machine....
  5. Happy Birthday Rodney!!!!!!! Make it a good one!!! Don't do anything I wouldn't do..
  6. Yes, the Gp bikes are all 2 stroke. 250's, 500's and that sort of thing. Still a very competitive class. And Bill, media is controlled in every country. it is a political tool...... And on topic of this thread, I do not believe there is any other twin 2 stroke ATV out there....
  7. A stock banshee will get beaten by a DS. End of discussion. And you woofin' smack about someone's wife, that is disgraceful in itself. How old are you? There should be an age limit, and perhaps an IQ test before they dish you out access to the internet. It should be a priveledged, liscensed right. I couldn't even believe I was reading that halitosis like bull shit flying out of that man pleaser you call a mouth. Why don't you stop attacking people on here with your nonsense. You have never been beat by a DS because you proably haven't even raced.... Sit back there chief, glance over at your purple drapes, and finish up your earth science homework...... Oh wait, it's winter recess.... P.S. DING!!! Fries are done. Would you like an apple pie with that????
  8. Indeed. However, if those "spinning tires" never hook up to the ground, than you will not be going anywhere. You must be drunk....... Yep, spinning the tires wins races. That's why funny cars heat the tires to make them stick, and the first one to lose traction, and create the 'spinning tire" effect loses. EVERY time. yep, just light the tires up and you will be at the end of the track.........
  9. I have a fuel tank!!! And some carbs. Although the carbs aren't complete...
  10. Oil would kind of get by, but not in the sense that you are thinking. You see, there is no oil in the crankcase. Well, not like in a 4-stroke. The only oil that is in the crankcase is from the fuel. (That's why you mix the oil and fuel). if there are gouges, than you will be getting blowby, and therefore not getting a complete combustion. And smoke..... If the head gasket is leaking, you will build pressure in the cooling system most likely, and it would also suck coolant into the cylinder, giving you smoke...
  11. Nice!!!!! I have heard alot about the local guy Josh!! Are you sure it is a 5mm stroker and not a 5mm longrod? Either way, 28's would be good for trail and mx dutys. For draggin, 33's or 35's would be good...
  12. That's interesting Mcaf. I have never heard of such things like that. What kind of fuel was it? Was it oxygenated? Of course, if it was oxygenated, you would have to richen it up. I don't understand why the jetting changes. I switch between 50/50 and full high octane, and my jetting hasn't ever changed....
  13. .8mm=.0315"
  14. Yes, if the bike is too lean, you will know it by melting the top end. if it is too riich, you will foul plugs, and it will bog at WOT. Too lean early indications are high revving with little power. (zingy revving, not alot of ass...) And it will run hot. Plugs will look white.
  15. Who's doing the case work for the +5mm stroker? You have to trench for that...
  16. PM PassionRE or give Jim a call.
  17. I have pondered just such things myself
  18. Meat, I think your problem may be the R50. However, I wouldn't say that klotz products are bad. I have run Klotz in my sled(s) forever. Always run fine, and have poured to -20 without a problem. With my shee, no matter what the temp was outside, I kicked her over, and it fires up with 2-4 kicks cold. I have let my bike sit for months at a time, and gone out, shaked her a couple times, and kicked it over. no problem. I didn't even run the fuel out of the carbs. I am running Klotz super techniplate though. It is only 20% castor. It is the oil that I have run in everything. Shit, I even run it in my weedeaters. Just because I have it by the gallons..... I can honestly say that at a 40:1 mix, I do get a little more smoke out of it, but I have NEVER fouled a plug. I let my bike idle for sometimes a half hour or longer. Not a problem. And I have run it alot in the winter months here. It gets really cold. And like I said, it never gummed up on me........ But, like Jim said, run what you are comfortable with. I can't speak yay on the R50. I have never run it. But I don't plan to. I LOVE the super techniplate. Excellent lubrication.
  19. I would be willing to bet on that motor that was near boiling over on pump fuel was detonating on pump fuel. That is the reason for it heating up. And cooling it down immediately when they switched to race fuel. Nonsense. There are no "extra cooling properties"in race and higher octane fuels. They simply combat detonation in high compression applications. The only cooling properties that would be existant on a stock motor would be all the unburned fuel in the cylinder that may cool it down some. I do NOT agree. Based on the reasoning that no matter how much porting is done which reduces the amount of air that can actualy be compressed, you still didn't change the squish on the head. most cases this is done, to get a smaller volume of which is trapped at TDC. Let's say you were running hig hoctane fuel on a stock ported bike. Your squish was minimal, let's say .020". A really low number. So, you get the thing drag ported. But, you don't change the head. You will now show a considerably lower number on a compression guage, however, this should not be the determining factor when deciding on what fuel to use. Because, if you were to run some 91 octane in this hypothetical motor, you would surely blow a hole in the piston. Run what doesn't let your bike ping. If you like to run race fuel, and don't need it, do it. You will have alot of unburned fuel exiting out the pipes in a vapor trail. Whatever floats your boat.......
  20. Man, I do need a beer, and a vacation in the worst way!!!!!!!!!!! I wish I could go to Dumont, but I have too many other things to do. GOtta get the new shop up and what not. And skiing trips this year are gonna dent the ol' checkbook pretty heavy. We'll see. All I need is a dollar and a dream is what the lottery dude keeps telling me...
  21. To tell if the cooling system is building pressure, pull the radiator cap off, put on a pair of goggles, take a deep breath, fire the bike up. look into the top of the radiator. If you get a faceful of coolant, your cooling system is building pressure. And being that you stated you kind of answered your own question. Now, you could have a marred cylinder, and be losing compression that way, or you could have a leaky head gasket. Either way, there is problems, and you need to address that. Now, The exhaust can smell one of three ways. Normal, which would be a healthy smell, something I love myself. A good running 2 stroke!!!!! Another smell can smell like burning coolant. To figure this out, it will smell like burning maple syrup. Open a bottle of ethylene glycol, (coolant) and smell it. Now, picture this stuff burning, and how it would smell. really sweet. Or, it can smell horrid. By horrid, I mean bad. Have you ever opened up a differential cover on a car or truck? It smells like hell. Or, when you change the gear oil in the shee, what does it smell like? Now, picture this stuff burning, and think of what it would smell like. When you pull the head off, pull it off like you described. One piece at a time. And replace all the orings at once. They are cheap.
  22. I wouldn't jump right to an air leak. Being that the bike sat for awhile, I am thinking that the carbs are gummed up. Hapens more frequently than anything., And having a partially clogged jet would do just that. And being that he says the choke doesn't drown it out, I am betting the choke circuit is plugged up as well. (being that he said he couldn't get it to fire up at all without pulling it.) This would also point towards a clogged pilot jet. I would pull the carbs, and give them a thorough cleaning. Should be all it needs. You could give her a leakdown, just to be sure. As it could be a combination of things as well. I wouldn't rule out the air leak.
  23. How are the reeds? And if this side is 145, what is the other side at? I cracked a reed and it exhibited the same symptoms. You say you have ruled out a head gasket leak, and I am pretty positive that you have, being that you already tore the motor down in between, and put it back together, and it does the same thing. The 2-1 carb situation is a bit deceiving, ruling out carburetion error. SO, you have to look at what is controlling fuel delivery after it is sucked out of the carb. The reeds. And porting.
  24. I feel much, much stupider for even reading that. I am still trying to figure out what it said. All I got out of it was something about dog shit.,....
