  1. Ok guys.....did the leak down and the boss intake was a bubble factory. Ether or carb cleaner would NOT find the leak. It was leaking everywhere. I sealed it with black rtv neatly no gobs and let it sit all day and tightened it down. It ran like a screaming banshee!!!! Ended up with 56 pilots and 167 mains and 2 turns out on airscrews with the CE L int the 4th notch. Idles perfect and is crisp all the way through with topend out of this world. Thanks for all the help.
  2. if the reeds are good and it has compression if must not be getting fuel. DO NOT try to pull it off because if it is a fuel problem you are not getting any lubrication to the top end and if you drag it around long enough it will cause damage. If it has to be pulled off there is a problem that needs correcting. Did you make sure you had fuel flow from the petcock?
  3. ok guys I got every thing i need to make a leakdown tester. Will let yall know the results
  4. spread the dough man
  5. Yea what he said liquid welding is really not an option. Fix it right and don't worry about it. It will cost one way or the other
  6. I have CE L needles in the carbs
  7. i have went from one extreme to the other with no difference. From top to bottom clip. I think the intake is the problem. Cause I kinda got discusted and pegged the throttle wot. The right side would spit pop and bang ont he top. Gotta be an air leak. Not gone chance hurting it futher till i do a leak down.
  8. running the needles that came in them stock. I used yamabond on all sealing surfaces just for insurance. Gonna do a leak down hopefully soon
  9. so would you run a wiseco?
  10. yea i sure did. I am going to do a leak down and see.
  11. depends on the mods and riding conditions. Slow tight trails on a hot humid day is gonna let a little water go. could be a weak cap or bad seal on the cap
  12. Thanks all. I am headed to home depot to get some stuff to make one. I have the rubber freeze plugs already just need the pvc. I am certain it is in the intake. This airleak is so small ether or carb cleaner won't find it but it is increadible how bad it hurt the jetting. I pu stockers on the boss with some improvising and still had the problem. I have found airleakes before by spraying but have never seen one so small cause so much trouble. I will post my findings.
  13. swapped sides with carbs this morn and the problem stayed on the right side. Fixen to go make a lekdown tester. I just feel like the intake is leaking where it is put together
  14. none that i am aware of
  15. and if your not careful the carb cleaner will sneak around and get pulled into the intake side and make you think you found the prob. I prob don't know what i'm doing. But I did sleep at a hoilday inn(lol) Seriously though this not my first rodeo with tuning just first with the boss intake. If you read my post it doesn't make any difference from a 30 pilot to a 70+. But carb cleaner doesn't make any difference. It has blown my mind. It runs out fine it just backfires when you jam the throttle from idle.
  16. ok may try to rig a leakdown tester up tomorrow
  17. not nessarily.try the gas and if it don't crank or run right tear it down and ck it.
  18. What is keeping you from putting gas in it and trying it? There is no way to tell how much compression it has. The rings could be melted to the piston but it will still move air enought to move your finger.
  19. the "finger test" tells you nothing. Did you get a guage and check it?
  20. running it out of gas can cause serious problems. I think the loose headbolts and the hissing noise from under the head is telling you something. Have you put gas in it and tried to crank it?
  21. I thought you had said the head bolts were loose and it was making a bad hissing noise or something.
  22. that is what mine is doing pilots don't change anything. I have 2 made gaskets and used sealants. where do they leak?
  23. Well jr I have been leaning towards the air leak because of the amount of fuel needed. That is why I asked if anyone has had trouble with the boss intakes. I have totally took them apart and ck o rings and all. I put a thin coat on all mating surfaces as well as new reed cage gaskets. I don't know where else to ck.
  24. Whew if I go that small it backfires really bad. Has anyone ever had problems with the boss intakes (2 piece)
  25. I sprayed carb cleaner around them and could not tell any difference. I have ran a 55 pilot in it with the same results. If I go bigger it will not idle at all.
