From what I hear, going to a 68mm on stock jugs isn't worth it, and you should run a Cheetah setup instead. If you're getting ported, you don't want the stock carbs...especially if it's a drag or dune port. I think you need to run big bore domes on the 68mm, not sure about the 66.

I don't really have much except for the stock pics...I can get better ones in a few weeks though. -

Is the carbs the only new thing on it? Is it just cold starting or warm too? I noticed you said after it sits, but I don't know how it does warm. Usually when my bike is hard starting, it's because I had the fuel line off, and I have to wait a minute for the fuel to start flowing back into it. Do you usually have the petcock turned off? Maybe putting the rag over it is blocking the air, and causing a "vaccuum" forcing it to pull in more fuel from the hoses. Maybe a hose is clogged, or the petcock is clogged... I don't know man, I never had this problem, and I'm just thinking out loud. -
For the price, the ported stockers stomp the VF3s. Obviously if you are incredibely serious, or do something for money, you'll want the VF3s. If you're on stock porting, I wouldn't worry to much about it.

Toomey > FMF IMO. If anything, go to T5s. Definately port and rebuild at the same time. If you want to do a 4 mil, do 4 mil porting w/ the rebuild.

Honestly, you probably should have pulled it apart and looked at it first anyways before you ordered shit. Not saying that that asshole who sold you it doesn't matter, he's just that...an asshole. It sucks that pullin off the head and measuring this shit coulda fixed your problems.

A dumb ? about tuning with the air box off

Ok. But there is no intelligence checker...that's what we need. And there is a spell check, but you actually have to click it to use it. And it wouldn't help this topic out any. -

If you're changing jets frequently, then you must be taking your carbs apart often. Everything looks alright in them? Check the boots too for tears I guess. What have you done recently to it? -
Everyone knows adding chrome to a part increases it's performance by at least 10%. Why do you think I polish (and ported) my boost bottle? That bitch gives me an extra 20HP to the pavement.

Wha carbs should I go with

Your bike looks awesome in your sig man!!!!!!! Funny, we are roughly doing the same mods at the same time...I think that happened last time too, lol. Builder knows best, but 35s should be perfect. Can't go wrong there. -
From what I've been told, you get a quicker rev but a loss of intertia. But I also heard rider weight will determine how noticable it is. [On the lightened one]

Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have no idea how lucky you are. What other exhausts sound like the 916s? I love that "bike" sound.

pipe touches the fuel line ?

Uh...1 zip tie fixed ALL of my wire/pipe clearance issues...no need to bend the pipes... -
If you get rid of T6s, get T5s....and the Toomey jetting system is great. Compare the stock and Toomey needle next to each other, you should see the difference.

Same problem I run into. I lost my keys, and went down there to see if he knew how to hotwire it (before I could hop on here.) He told me just to disconnect the key switch. I didn't believe him, but I tried it anyways. I walked back inside and said "Didn't work." He then tried to tell me that he had to tear my bike down, and replace all the electrical connections...or it's a stator problem, or it's not getting spark...and basically it was going to cost me a bunch to fix...but of course "I'd have to look it up in the Banshee book, because I haven't worked on one of these in years." Then I said "Listen, it ran fine yesterday. The only difference between today and yesterday is I lost my key. It's not getting spark because the damn key isn't in it. Find me a yamaha OEM key switch, and let me plug that in, or find me a scotch lock. It's only two wires, so the key obviously just breaks the circuit." Voila, it worked. Point: Don't listen to your local builder without asking someone else first, especially if it makes no sense!!!!!!!!!! Good job on asking on here before you did it...

I would imagine the fuel/air flow the 2:1 set up provides is choking your bike down towards the lower end--regardless of how the exhaust gases are leaving your motor. It's going to be limited by the amount of air and fuel flowing in. You carbs could be maxed out at "7000" RPMs, while your exhaust will still be wanting more, up to it's "9000" RPMs. I think that would make your bike run wierd too... Like running big bore pipes on a small bore bike. I made up those numbers, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it would hinder your performance, when compared to a dual carb set up. The thing I have learned about Banshees (and almost everything in life) is to spend what is necessary to get the proper equipment. I would just run duals (26-34mm depending on what other plans you have...if it's stock porting, you obviously don't need the same size carb a dune ported bike will need.)
-
It depends. I don't think "trails" in MA and "trails" in OK are anywhere near the same. Basically depends on if you'd rather have more torque, or more speed. Only way to really tell is to ditch it, and try something else. Like I said, stockers are cheap, and you can see if you like those at all or not. With the 2:1, chances are your bike is looking to stand up on you, especially if you had a low end pipe to match. With duals and toomeys, you're bike will want to run out more than stand up. Find your altitute, and go here: http://www.nossmachine.com/banshee_heads.htm There's a chart that lists the compressions. 155+ is race fuel, anything less is fine on 93 pump. 17cc, 18cc, 19cc, etc. are dome sizes. The smaller the dome, the higher the compression. EDIT- Definately do pipes and filter first though.

Thanks man. Sorry, I didn't mean to get you guys off topic or anything.

Congratulations man...and welcome to the HQ. Anything you need, if it's pretty general, use the search function on the top right of the page. This is a mostly national (and for many, even international) site, and chances are someones asked the same thing you have before. The search will bring you through all the posts relating to whatever you type in. I wouldn't worry about a bigger radiator just yet. I live in Florida, so I'm running in some pretty extreme temperatures myself. I usually just run Engine Ice coolant. As your bike gets more and more built, chances are you'll want to upgrade. Temperature stickers are cheap, and a really good insurance. IMO, Toomey T5 pipes are great. They do have a lot of mid to top end pull. They aren't as top ended as CPIs, but they aren't as expensive either. If you do a lot of sand riding, you can run K&N Pod filters. However, they do not mix at all with mud and water. They are pretty high flowing, so it's a good idea to always keep them clean, oiled, and run outerwears on them. You can also port your bike if you want. That's going to make a big increase...especially with the bigger carbs your running, and the aftermarket reeds. You can also get a coolhead, and some domes. This will "keep your bike cooler" (they say, not sure how much though), but the main part is that it raises your compression. After I threw the head and domes on, I had some crazy roosting power through out my power band. Before I had it, I did the exhaust...I noticed I had power when it hit pipe, and at top end...the head and domes kinda smoothed it out for me, and gave me more "punch" throughout the entire powerband. You also need to advance your timing with this mod. +4 degrees, and a $49 timing plate off of Ebay are fine. The single carb is for more low end, you'll want to take that off and get a two carb setup if I were you. When you decide what else you're going to do, that will decide what carbs to run. You can find stockers pretty cheap, but don't get them if you'll be porting soon. Hope this helps. You're definately in the right place to turn this bike into an animal, these guys know alot.
-
You'll probably think I'm crazy...but my entire bike is black, and I just put my first chrome piece on (the head)...what do you guys polish this with in the first place? Before you even go to "seal it." I don't want to use the wrong stuff.
