ahhh you should do a search for this subject. Im sick and tired of answering these newbie problems. USE THE SEARCH.

Rippin, spelled with an "I", the only reason I said anything was just to piss to you off. Thanks for writing your 1000 word reply, you made my day. And if anyone wants a cheap download of Rippen's DVDs, just PM me

ya, you definelty get muddier fer sure. But gettin' muddy is part of the whole experience ! I'v always cut my front fenders, I like being able to see my front tires and suspension.
-
I would.... pin point where the noise is coming from. Inspect the noisy part . Fix.

PM a dude with the name "NYUK". He always has parts for sale, and probably has the best seller reputation on the whole board. If Nyuk doesnt have a nice shock, then there's always Ebay.
-
Doh, you just jinxed yourself.

Im must be one of the lucky SOB's. Damn, I never have any luck . Maybe... I should go buy a lottery ticket  Whats the usual senario when they shear off ??
-
good explaination Flo-tekker. So if the key is not a perfect fit, it will shear. But if its installed tight, it should stay tight, or can play develop ? What are the keys made from ? Is there's a better key out there ? Mine was bought from Vito's.... that was about 6 years ago, and I had about 4 years on it. And my point about "doing it right" is... for most guys, the average Banshee guy, who's not out racing, who doesnt have a $2000 motor, a cheap key, installed correctly should get er done. Once I started building my motor, I kept the key for another two years, but now I use a Trinity plate. But for most folk, especially the guys who have allready bought one and ask how to install it .... the key should work for em.
-
ya..... obviously. Key's are shearing, plates are not breaking. And Im not fully sold on Okbeasts explaination on why they are shearing. Every key is not perfect, but they're not handmade either, so the odds should be heavily on the good side. If the keys are manufactured wrong, there should be a buncha threads like the poorly made Ricky Stator threads. These keys are cut from stock, on a machine, and we've been working with metals for hundreds of years, so altho there is a small chance for inperfections in the metals, the chances have got to be slim. Manufacturing problems have got to be the answer tho, unless the key's are improperly installed. And I think that is the case, I think alot of em are installed wrong, people tapping them into the crank with a hammer, installing them backwards and then having to pry em out, flywheels banging into the keys when you try to line em up, loose flywheel nut, or like I mentioned before.... a sudden abrupt stop in the RPM's. I would say that the guys installing them wrong could be half the troubles and the other half being manufactured wrongly. I don't know the quality control in making these things, but it would seem to be a pretty easy proceedure to make one and the odd's of having bad metal stock have got to be low. Not sure what your trying to say here.....

No sticky. Come on man, your selling information that is ALLLLLLL over the internet, specifically information that is ALLLLLL over these very forums. Plus.... your not even a donating member to the BansheeHQ. Sorry man, but this shouldn't be stickied, its just not fair to the advertisers and to the other members who are selling things. We had this same delema when BigRed350x was going to sell How-To DVD's here. Its nothing personal bro, but you just can't sell your DVD's in the parking lot of a music store, ya know what I mean ?? Its just bad form. Atleast join up as a Premium Member. Don't take this personally, and Im sure the DVD is cool and all, but no sticky sticky IMO. Besides, if you sell enough DVD's, no one is going to need Dajogers help anymore

maybe the keys shear because of the powerful sudden acceleration of high hp motors ?? But if that were the case, then PAbansheematt woulda ripped his in half by now. And my Banshee is no slouch either, 390 cc's, full MX port job, 20cc domes, pipes, no airbox, and I didnt shear mine. Im not being an asshole, I just wanna know "why" these keys are shearing for you guys ??
-
The +4 key is made for guys with a set of pipes, and an aftmkt air filter\modded airbox. That would be the majority of Banshee guys. Once folk get into the mega-dollar motors like yours, then they should tune their timing to work best, but for the VAST majority of people, the +4 key is ideal. The plates cost a bit more(altho the cast one reasonalbe), they require you to remove the stator and remount it, they require you to remount the pickup coil, properly gap the pickup coil and put it all back together without damaging a 15 year old brittle stator. Not a big deal right ? But when the majority of guys are running the basic mods, then the adjustablity of the plate, the extra work installing it, the tuning and price of the plate doesn't seem that advantagous anymore. And betting on 100 key shearing for every timing plate failure is a stupid bet, fucking timing plates don't fail. Ya know how people like to share past problems they've had.... well everyone who ever sheared off a key is going to tell us, but the thousands and thousands of folk who installed em and had no problems.... for years and years... those guys are NOT going to reply nearly as much as the guy who have had problems, I'd betcha the averages are that most people had no issuses with em. I still can't figure out how they're shearing if they're properly installed, lets be honest, they can be a bitch to keep in the notch and line everything up without it moving, but once its installed properly the only way I can see shearing off the key would be a manufacture's error, or the crank would have to suddenly stop spinning from a high RPM. I'm not saying I have the answers, but it is a good question. FYI you can advance your timing +4 degrees without even buying a key or a new timing plate.

Thats my problem with you dude, you always come off as a brash, arrogant know-it-all and I'm gunna call you out on it everytime I see you busting on someone's balls, let alone a neighbor of mine. Take your attitude and tone it down Mr. Wonderful. No one likes when it when your reply to new guys the way you did in this thread. And get a new gripe about me, cause the political and religous threads won't ever stop and I'll continue to talk to people about that stuff. Take a look at the past one hundred posts of mine, none of had anything religious or political about em. You reek of arrogance "Mr. Credibility". Maybe its just the way you word things Daddjjsoy, try to be a little nicer when dealing with people. You have a million posts but when they read like they read in this thread, it doesnt matter how many times you've posted, you still come off as an asshole. mdhc500, every message board has these ignorant people "answering" questions, you just gotta ignore em. You just gotta sort though the good advice from the bad. I live up on Walnut street, west end. I hope to have my latest quad together in a few weeks and then we can all meet up, but right now, i'm currently quadless.

Why would a degree key shear ? What would cause it to shear ?? All the key does is index the flywheel to the crankshaft, if everything is installed correctly and the motor is running fine, I see no reason why a key would shear. The key fits in two grooves, one in the crank, one in the flywheel, the flywheel is torqued on tight with a big ol' nut, the crank and the flywheel are now indexed together, the taper on the crankshaft, the keyway and the big nut keep the flywheel from moving on the shaft. Are the key's just not produced with good quality. Why do some people run em for years while others can't keep em at all ??
-
Who called you credible ? And count me in on one of the guys who ran a +4 degree key for years and never had a single problem. And my banshee has alot of miles on it, Im not a drag racer who's running alot of Horsepower, but a trail rider and I have enough mods to give me around 50hp. For cryin out loud the guy asked how to install a degree key and dagagsygy tells him to sell it. Your a butthole dagogygy. Lose the "experience and credible" ego and and try to be a little more humble and help the guy out or don't say nothing at all. Back when the bansheezone was up, I had a page full of pictures of a degree key install, but the website has been offline for awhile, but there's this "web archive" that has portions of the Bansheezone still available. There's no more pictures, but here's my Degree Key install page http://web.archive.org/web/20031017050943/...KeyInstallation

Any body wanna sell thiers ??

Hey folks i have a transmission that i'm going to be selling and I'm 75% sure its a Banshee transmission, but there is the possibility of it being an RZ tranny. I owned a few of each and this set wasnt labeled. It has a 13 tooth sprocket on it. Question of the day is, how can I tell the Banshee's gears from an RZ's set ?? I know they have differenent ratios, so I should be able to count teeth on a certain gear. But which one and how many teef :geek: ?

how in the hell can you have a 3.8 gpa and you spell ass hole "Whole"

The 09 lineup will be released this Wednesday. I'v never been a fan of Polardass, but this years 525 and 450 Outlaws with the straight axles are really good quads. Polaris is finally starting to listen to the sport quad guys.

Iv had the vitos 404 kit for many years and its fun and reliable too. I wouldnt get one unless your out of cylinder wall and you need a re-sleeve. If you need a re-sleeve and don't have a fortune, or don't care about having the fastest drag bike on the planet, then the Vito's kit is an inexpensive alternative to aftermarket cylinder kits.

The definition of a clutch is "A mechanism for transmitting rotation, which can be engaged and disengaged." You have two rows of gears spinning in your crankcase. When you pull in the clutch you are momentarily removing the engine's power to the transmission allowing the dogs on the gears to mesh up the way they were designed. When you don't use the clutch, the gears change but its much harder on the gear dogs. If you would happen to shift under full power you could break off a dog or two. And if you don't break one clean off, your prolly wearing away the corners off of the dogs, which can lead to a slipping tranny gear in the future. There are NO syncro's on Banshee gears, without using the clutch, the spinning gear will mesh at full spinning speed with the new gear you just selected. BUT... Banshee's are known to have strong, reliable trannies. Can someone give me situation, besides drag racing, where speed shifting is clearly better than using a clutch.
