not saying you cant either fix it or run it the way it is.. im just the guys thats willing to spend the extra money and be done with it...with the way my luck goes it would cause me to burnup my motor, break a skirt have it eat my jugs, fall into my crank and eat it up and shatter my 2nd gear in my tranny

an adjustable timing plate allws you to advance or retard your timing +10 to -10 degrees by turning the plate... adjusting will give you more bottom end ( that the banshee lacks ) at the sacrifice of some topend... id say get your self a nice port job... thats going to make your motor run night and day differant... do you ever plan on going to a stroker crank? if you do you might wait and save to get the crank as well casue your going to have to have it reported once you drop in th crank to change the port timings..

now when you say itlooks like around the kicker... you talking the clutch cover or where the kicker mounts to the side of the case? id be warry of any crack in the case but thats just me... id look into getting new cases if its in your budget...
-
problem is now hes going to keep sending you pict of himself in his undeis with his new parts...and trust me the guys not all that to look at in his yellow banana hammock

where was the leak at? was it from a chain breaking or what? im one of those guys thats willing to spend the extra money for peace of mind... id replace it but that doesnt mean you cant run it and it be ok...

before you go throwing carbs on... theres a few thingsyou should do first... porting will bring the most power out of that motor from any mod... get it ported THEN get carbs to match.... if you go too big for your setup your drownding your motor and losing power... also look at some VF3 reeds, and adjustable timing plate

question on timing and octane.
Bansh-eman replied to 01blckbansh's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
for the most part advancing 4 degree you can run same gas... only way you should have to go up is if your already running high compression and then you advance your timing... theres a ton of factors... but for the most you should be ok... listen for signs of detonation at first ... -

electircal or jetting is off... list all your mods and jet sizes.. hows your spark look? -
do a plug chop... find somewhere you can gt into 5th or 6th gear wied open for a few secs warm your bike on old plugs....killit and put in new plugs... get on and take off and pin it through all gear.. once you hit 6th hold it wide open for a fwe secs and kill the motor... once you come to a stop pull those plugs and put your old ones back in... cut the threads back and loook for this.... Clicky

one idea instead of buying elkas name... look into works they are much cheaper and are top notch....

dude buy your self a clymers and do it your self... it is killer ez! 350 to rebuild a topend is stupi if you ask me! its so simple you would want to slap your self for even thinking of paying someone else to do it. as far as pistons sizes go you need to bore / hone your cyclinder to clean it up... depending on if you have to bore it would determine what size piston you need... you can buy weisco pistons for like 120 bucks...

hey woodward... we kinda got a big ordeal going down in the roosting room right now over this... before you go out promoting your shop on here you might look into a banner to help the site or at the very least take it up with lee to make sure he doesnt mind you dropping these posts on the open forums...

everything out here is more expensive... i can see a grand getting you a custom swinger unfinished.
-
not sure how much your looking at spending but im sure you know that something like that isnt going to be your regular 600-700 dollar swinger... but check out some custom bike fabricators... im sure you can have them make you a custom swinger, your just going to be paying custom prices...
-
it depends on what you already have on the bike and what you want to get out of it... keep in mind you can spend 10,000 bones on the motor if your suspension cant handle the motor your going to get beat by a stock bike... the suspension is pretty much your most expensive upgrade... so im going to assume you already have a suspension... 2500 dollars you can build a very nice motor... carbs pipes reeds head crank clutch swinger....... your not looking at cubs with your riding but dont worry stock jugs can make some very nice power... id say look into a 4mil crank, some 30-35 PWK carbs, Vforce 3 reeds, Coolhead with domes to run the gas your looking to run for your alt, T-5 pipes, porting, pistons, clutch ( get a magnum basket much cheaper then hinson), clutch plates, swinger, chain, tires... try to find some used pats and save some money... there are plenty of thing on h ere and PS for sale that you can use... EDIT: if your interested, im going to be selling my cylinders with 795 series pistons, here very soon... they would be ready to run.

there is no such thing as sucking too much air , as long as you can get enough fuel to matchg it your motor is only going to allow so much air/fuel mixture to enter the motor.. assuming your not running lean, you can never get too much air. with stock carbs at sea lvl your bike should be running around a 320 main... so you shouldnt be far from this as a starting point..
-
if your sucking water in there you got bigger issues... that hose is to vent pressure ... if your motor is sucking you have a vacume and somewhere there is a leak...
-
well if you can afford it do the stroke... but you can just drop in a stoker.. you got to have it ported, your head has to be cut. your going to need new pistions for a long rod crank, the crank needs to be welded , your going to need bigger carbs, and then if your pipes dont match you will need to get new pipes.. with a port job you will make some major gain but you still need to get pipe for it.. t-5 will be your best bet. bigger carbs wouldnt hurt either... but dont go too big. before yo spend the money stat looking intot he older posts on here this ha been covered a 1000 times... gather all the knowledge you can thenm make your decison based off that instead of just a lil hear say , here and there.

some people swear by forged pistons some poeple hate them... the thing is with a forged piston ( weiscos) you cant just start up your bike and take off.. you need o let the motor heat up before you take off.. the metal take longer to expand and if you run it cold then you are generating alot of sudden heat that can cause your motor to seize... you will find that most people run weiscos when they rebuild... they are race proven and they just plain ass work! so big deal you need to heat up your motor before you take off... start it up and let it run while your getting your gear on and go... as for how often... it all depends on how well you maintain your bike... if you change your oil regularly your going to get more time out of it then someone that doesnt, if you run it lean your going to drain some time as well... so there really isnt a set amount of time... but like Satsol said... get a compression tester and that will tell you when your ready...

changing the jets is ez... chaning to the right jets is going to be your issue.. when you change your jets you need to remove your carb, pull the bowl off and there is 2 jets... your main , pilot and needle. mains and pilot are the ones your going to have to change... i cant really help you figure out what jets to run casue i have never ran in 8k altitude.. your going to have to go alot smaller then sea lvl for sure...

tranny mods as in overrides and lockups... are you breaking your actual gear or is it just not going into sencod gear ? the override will help you fix this problem is high hp motors. and the lockup will keep you for frying a clutch... if your breaking the actuall gear like when launching look at a billet gear... but im guessing your just having problems when you shift into 2nd it keep poping out?? what is done to your bike? if your running the "normal mods" then you could get away with a modded shift star and a shift pro kit... if your running 2 or 3 times the stock hp you might look inot a override if you can afford it

even a 87 banshee will go for 2k around here... what kinda doesnt make scence is a shity old stock banshee will sell for 2k but a fukin pimped out drag bike with lockup cubs swinger override you name it only sells for 5-6... doesnt make much scence if you ask me.. but either way a 1500 dollar bacnshee is going to cost you a grip to get into good shape... like said start saving and get one thats already there and not worry about it breaking ddown when your out in the middle of nowhere riding it...
