  1. for about $100 you can buy an eastwood powdercoating kit. find an old oven that someone is throwing out during a remodeling of their house and you have an instant powdercoating oven. with powdercoating, you can do some reallynice fake chrome, copper, as well as the usual powdercoating colours.
  2. which side? right side? might want to look at the crank seal. red oil and red fuel will make plugs red.
  3. wow that sucks. what exactly broke on youre crank? is it the same crank with the fucked up flywheel end?
  4. hey dave by chance are you running atf in the gear box? is the other plus also red?
  5. sounds like a tors problem. that is exactly what it does when tors detects a problem. strange.
  6. it should add a lot of torque in the low rpm's. thats what i felt with my ass dyno. i did not notice any difference in the top end. i would be a scared of 100:1. when it comes to 2 strokes, i would go by what yamaha says, not the oil manufactuer. yamaha knows the banshee and they know what it needs as far as oil goes. amsoil does not know what their oil is going to be used in. i could be some junky craftsman string trimmer or a drag bike. they just don;t know. right in the factory owners manual yamaha says if you are using a run of the mill 2 stroke oil, go for 20:1 mix. if using a good quality oil, go for 25:1. most people here use a good oil and go for 32:1 on gas. why is this i dont know. i run 25:1 and go by the basis that yamaha knows more about my motor than anyone else since they are the ones who designed it and have been producing it for a few decades, if you count the rd's anyways. my leaf blower says 40:1. my ourboard says 50:1. and that is the ratios i use because the manf of the engine knows more about the motors needs than some oil company who is clueless as to what engine the oil is going into. amsoil just makes a blanket statement of 100:1 for most 2 strokes and leaves it at that without even knowing what type of engine the oil is going to be used in. whats the point in going lean on oil? at the very best you wont hurt anything. at the worst you ruin the motor. at least with a richer mix you know you are getting enough oil to cover most situations. espically if something happens like a jet getting partly blocked and you run a little lean. personally i would rather run rich on oil and have a plugged jet than run lean on oil and have a plugged jet. the motor with a 25:1 mix stands more of a chance of surviving i would imagine and never hope to find out. running 25:1 never hurt a banshee. and if you have it jetted correctly it won't smoke on 25:1 except when the motor is cold, but all 2 strokes smoke when cold. its the nature of burning oil. i have had my banshee for a year and a half, i run 25:1 and premium gas. i have probably 40 hours on the motor and its got 149psi in the right cylinder and 148 in the left with 22cc domes at sea level. thats basically perfect compression. my motor is still putting out great numbers when you would expect at least a little drop in compression after 40 hours. shit i have known people who had to rebuild the top end after 40 hours of abuse. my motor is also jetted correctly for where i live, i have never fouled a plug in the entire time i have owned the bike. i am still running on the factory yamaha spark plugs that came with the bike when i picked it up new at the dealer. now here comes the second hand hearsay so take what i am about to say with as big a grain of salt as you want. my brother in law use to race outboard 2 strokes. he said they did some testing of oil ratios and found that the more oil you add the more power you make, up to about 12:1. anything richer than that and you get other problems that make it not worth doing. he said that if the race was a technical course they would run 16:1 and if it was a higher speed course they would run 12:1. now thats freakin rich on oil! i dont advise that for a banshee because quite frankly it does not need to be so rich on oil as they ran since most of us don't race like that type of a race. 20:1 for cheap oil. 25:1 for expensive stuff like the manual says.
  7. with the ammount of gas a typical banshee owner goes through in a year, it makes since to use premium. the difference in cost between 97, 89 and 93 is only like 50 cents per tank of gas, so splurge and go for the premium. i only use 93 octane gas, and fresh gas at that. over the life of youre quad you might save $5 or $10 if you used 87 or 89, but so what. the money we are talking about is peanuts in the grand scheme of things.
  8. hey shane. the head campgrounds manager said we need some kind of yearly pass for $75, or a 3 day pass for $10. by the way i still got youre green cooler. im sure you don't care about it anymore as its only worth $10 perhaps. but i still hold onto it because at this point its going to be amusing to finally give it back to you. long lost cooler seperated at birth! i don't like typing out speculation because it nearly always leads to disaster however now ill go and speculate. i *^*THINK*^* a yearly pass is only if you park at a campgrounds. the campgrounds manager said it costs $75 a year or $10 for a 3 day temporary pass. the $10 option sounds more reasonable since none of us are going to go there more than a few times a year. i base this on the fact that i was pulled over and checked quite a few times by roaming park rangers and they never asked for any pass or membership. just the 4 required items, a green sticker, a registration, a license and a title. nobody ever asked for any sort of pass. so i think if you want to camp at the offical campgrounds and enjoy luxurys like hot water showers, sinks with running water and a mirror, indoor toilets, etc its $12 a day for camping and $10 for a 3 day pass. i think the pass is for the campgrounds. but im not sure. i don't see why they charge for any pass if they don't check for it. i was never checked for it. maybe they check you at the campgrounds gates? i didnt stay in the campgrounds because a few of my buddies had illegal atv's so we stayed out on the powerline road and kept to the backtrails to avoid rangers.
  9. i guess i am a car guy. i don't like trucks at all. i much prefer a car and a trailer. that way i can haul 1000lbs of crap on the trailer and fuel eocnomy equivalent to a truck, or when i disconnect the trailer i get good mileage since its a car. with a truck you are always going to get poor mileage, trailer or not. atleast i get good mileage for 90% of my driving. there are odd times where i need a BIG truck to haul heavy shit like a wrecked car or whatever. in that case i just rent a uhaul for a day. its so much cheaper to do this.
  10. fat bars are 1 1/8 i have a garmin street pilot c330. its a gps designed for street use so its got touch screen navigation. i toss it in the backpack and bring it along on trails because this praticular gps has all the trails built into the maps. even the really far out trails that barely look like trails. yeah those are marked too! the only drawback is that it is not waterproof, so i zip lock it 5 times over and all is good. but its got all the typical bullshit that the offroad gps have like waypoints and markers and whatever.
  11. for you guys without titles, just go to the dmv and explain the situation. it might help to fake up i mean make up a bill of sale. they will probably issue you one as long as you're vin isn't reported stolen. the world in general is crackin down on stolen vehicles. each year more and more places get closed to unlicensed atv's so you might as well get the registration over with.
  12. some of you have asked about the new ocala rules and enforcements. i was just there 2 weeks ago and i talked to a number of ass rangers i mean park rangers because all they did was hassle me. i don't think they liked 2 strokes. as of now you have to have a current off road sticker on the bike. it must be green and it must be stuck to the body somewhere. you need the registration that goes with you're frame. you need a drivers license that goes with the name on the registration. you need the title that goes with the frame and registration. all the vin numbers must match. they will accept photocopy of the above items because they realize people are not going to want to risk losing the title or their license out in the woods. but when i was there 2 weeks ago i got stopped like 4 times and checked for tag and papers. what a bunch of crap. the fines are huge, in the order of $500 for no tag. a couple hundred for no license. the thing i REALLY don't understand is why do you need a on road drivers license to drive off road? thats so wrong. but whatever its not like anyone here doesn't have a license. the title thing is ridiculous too, but they say it is to catch stolen atv's. ok i can understand that. i guess anyone with a valid bike won't have a problem making a few photocopies of their papers. the people with stolen bikes and shit are out of luck. i certainly didnt have a hard time driving to publix to make a photocopy of the required items. i then had them laminated so they won't get ruined if gas or water comes in contact with the papers. each time i got stopped i just pulled out the copies and showed the ranger. he looked at them for a manute and said "ok" and left. this is probably bad news for guys like chase, fastrthnu, etc who don't have valid papers. but the good news is that big scrub was virtually empty. i guess all the riff raff with stolen frames cant come out to play anymore. (no offense you banshee owners with no titles) i literally rode the whole day and only ran into other people once on the trails. i guess everyone has no titles or something because the place was nearly empty compared to normal. this means riding at big scrub is really good. you can get a prime parking spot and not have neighbours nagging ya all nite. big scrub still has some kickin showers with hot water. very nice restrooms. camping cost has increased from $6 a day to $12 a day. you don't have to set up at the campgrounds anymore. there are 3 sets of dedicated parking areas under the powerlines. if you want to park there it is free but there are NO amenities at all. not even a toilet. so basically thats the ld on bs. anyone with a legit bike is free to ride. also if you have a garmin gps with the recent map updates, it has the FULL assortment of trails throughout bigscrub built in.
  13. seems like every time there is a meetup no one ever goes. guess i was the only person from bansheehq who actually went to big scrub last weekend for the ride out. haha you girls missed a hell of a ride. we got lost but i had a gps with the trails loaded so it showed us how to get back to the campsite easily. i just rode with some ex riders and a friend in palm beach who came along. the campground was cool. lots of partys going on. you guys disappoint me.
  14. hey guys. ill be there friday night or saturday morning. depends on when i can get off work. i bought a gps and have loaded some interesting waypoints in it for big scrub. post up what all youre cars and trucks look like so we know who to park next to. im not bringing my father along this time so we can really party without the old guy to drag us down. ill be riding with a few friends of mine in a white ford excape with a trailer on the back. does anyone have a power inverter? i was going to bring my mini air compressor and impact wrench in case anyone of you breaks down and needs air power. but i dont have an inverter or small generator big enough for it. i do have a small 200W inverter, but thats only big enough for the tv and ps2. its too smal l got the compressor. question, should i bring my big screen tv and ps2? last time everyone seemed to enjoy watching movies and playing games at night. maybe we do that again? its up to you guys. if someone needs directions because they are lost, or whatever save my phone number in youre tele and call me at 561 601 3322. actually i wouldnt mind if some of you pm'd me youre cell numbers before the trip so we can stay in contact. hit me up with a pm guys.
  15. make the date more in the spring or fall when it isnt very hot out (like 50-70 degrees) and ill go anywhere you want to. i have a rule for myself to follow. i wont ride in hot weather anymore. i know that sounds stupid living in florida. i just ride from october untill march. during summer i ride jetskis.
  16. ive got a stock head off my 06. the head has about 15 hours on it. its basically brand new. the plug threads are perfect. ill send it to you for $20 shipped, and ill include a new head gasket for you as well.
  17. im 6'5 and i have the stock banshee bars which are like a cr bend only not quite as tall. i put a +2 lone star steering stem on the quad and it made a WORLD on difference for my back. i can ride so much longer now standing up without my back and thighs hurting. to top it off everyone who has rode my banshee loves the long stem. i have yet to meet a single person who disliked the posture of siting while actually standing up instead of squatting like a horse jockey. when i go trail riding, the first people to tire out are the guys running drag stile bars or low profile bars. those kind of bars just dont work for trail riding where you have to stand or squat for 30 minutes at a time.
  18. lakeland is too far. its 186 miles each way, and on back country highway roads with stoplights all the way so it would take a bit of time to get there. if it was closer i would seriously not mind some asphalt drags. but at 186 miles i would spend $36 in gas eah way. whatever the entrance fee is. a weekends worth of food and drinks. so its basically i cant afford to do it each weekend. :\ maybe every month or 2 i could make it up there. do they allow knobbys? i would want to try it out first with knobbys before comitting to it and buying some slicks.
  19. feed are ok. im desprite to ride guys. ive been riding with a local 4 stroke club im that desprite. on the flip side, i found a new place to ride today. its called L-Cross, (check out l-cross.com) in okeechobee fl. 60 miles from my house. they have a REAL motocross track. and when the practice days are going, its like open practice. i was there today with some 4 strokers. since its open practice, theres no heats or deadlines. you just get on the track and ride however long you want. there was a mix of machines from a ktm 65 dirtbike to a yfz450, a couple 400ex, some cr250, yz250, yz450. i got there at 9am and rode untill 330pm. thats alot of riding... there was a little 9 year old on a ktm65 and he was every bit as good as me. i gave him thumbs up when he clear the 40 foot table top. i would have murdered for that bike when i was 9. all i had was an old 83 yamaha mx 100cc 2 stroke bike that had shitty suspension no brakes, broken shifter and kicker and a low power engine. by the end of the day i was able to clear a 40 foot tabletop sucessfully. i could also clear a pair of doubles that had a 10 foot gap between the 2 jumps and the 2 landings. its freakin SWEET to get air and fly. im so hooked on motoross now. i got pictures and videos on my camera phone but im having trouble converting them to standard format for you guys to see. plus the quality sucks. but anyways back to lcross. the current track is 2 miles long and is a mix of dirtbike and quads. they are building a brand new quad only track so they can seperate the bikes and quads. they are also making a REAL OVAL BANKED FLAT TRACK FOR BIKES AND QUADS HOW COOL IS THAT, i am so into flat track. so what im thinking is that after the big scrub ride out, maybe early next year we should plan a meetup at an mx track. i didnt want to make a new post about it since its so far off in the future. but i thought i should let you guys know about l-cross. plus the owner is really cool. he said he is open to suggestions on how to improve the track and such. first time entrance fee is $25, you get a membership card and injury insurance. after that its $20 to get in each time. or $30 for a 2 or 3 day weekend. they also have adults only events which is sweet. nothing like watching a couple of nekked girls get finger banged in the middle of the track.
  20. my bone stock 06 with like 10psi in the tyres would do 88mph on tarmac. this is 100% stock, stock air filter and snorkel even. not a single screw on the bike was turned. nothing was modified. speed was verified by my friends turbo saab 900 which matched my speed. we did back to back runs. 88mph and he said the last 20mph took a while to get there.
  21. when we go out to big scrub i suspect that during the day we will pack our bikes up and head out east on the powerlines road to the trails with no woops. all the trails near the camp entrance are wooped out badly and it takes more than a few miles of woops riding to get to the good trails. since its like 9 miles of riding to get to the good trails, it makes sence to pack the bikes up and head out. there we can unload the bikes, ride all day on some pristeen trails and come back at night time to the camp grounds to eat shower bullshit and sleep. thats what i did last time i went and it worked out great. i went with like 12 other people from a local atv club and we had a blast. however if you guys have other ideas im open to suggestions. we can awalys run the road and pray...
  22. shane youre still around! i got youre green cooler haha bet you forgot about that. ill bring it to big scrub.
  23. ok, seems like no one wants to go. so i ask you guys to pick a date for sometime this year and lets fucking get it on! post up a date that would work best for you and well pick the date that the most people reply with. hows that sound? i dont really give a fuck when we go. i just want to go!
  24. ill put in my 2 cents here. all oils thicken up when at room temparture or just warm compared to their viscosity rating which is normally done at 212F. thats why oil pressure drops as an engine gets warm. the oil thins out. since a banshee transmission doesnt actually run at 212F (its more like 130-150 on mine) the oils we choose will be thicker than what we are led to believe. for instance, an atf is about the thickness of a 20 weight oil at 212F. this is true, but that atf is probably more like a 40 or 50 weight at 140F which is in the middle of my temparture range. a 10w40 is probably more like a 60-70 weight when at 140F as well. this is because our banshees dont have a shared engine and trans like a 4 stroke does. yamaha specs a 10w40 for our bikes. thats right in the manual and no one can dispute it. so if youre trans is good and hot, that 10w40 is more like a 60 weight and the atf is more like a 40 weight. personally i ran type f in my bike for half a year now. i noticed no ill effects, but i didnt notice anything positive either. its just an oil so its no big deal. i found a 15w40 diesel rated oil on clearence for about $0.05 (thats 5 cents) per quart so i bought up a big stock of that, and thats what im going to be using from now on. only reason i changed from type f was the price. but really, i think that nearly any oil will work good in the banshee transmission as long as it isnt made by wesson or johnson&johnson.
