  1. I honestly don't think you can get a reputable port job for 400 bucks. Sure, the porting is gonna be 350 bucks or so...but what about a fresh top end, bore job, hone? Pistons, rings, gaskets, seals...fluids. they all add up. If you had...say, 600...yeah, it's feasible....but, you'd be cutting yourself short at 400. So...I'd get the head shaved .025, get an adjustable timing plate and shave your flywheel. That should cost you about 150 or less. Save the rest for a rainy day for a port job and fresh top end.
  2. To check your mains properly you need to do a plug chop. http://www.dfn.com/benkaren/plugchop.html Then...you can adjust the needles, then air screws. Your jetting sounds very, very close to me... You figure if your bike ran great at normal riding temps, say 70 to 90 degrees, you'll go up one size or so on the main for every 15 to 25 degree drop in temp. That's a general rule of thumb. Round here, you normally go up 2 to 3 main sizes when the snow files and the waters freeze.
  3. Hydrallic clutches are nice for trail riding and light duning shees. Not the way to go for heavily modded. I don't think it will solve your rough shifting problem. Something is either worn, broken or bent...and/or out of adjustment.
  4. Free bump for on 3. Great guy, 100% honest and legit. Got my ice tires from him and know him personally.... Hope to see you on the ice soon T!!
  5. I got the down payment money order in the mail yesterday as promised... I'm 99.9% sure this sale is going to go through just as we talked about.... So...will keep you posted if something happens. Good luck!!!
  6. Ran my 421 with shearers and 35PWKs, 185PSI...8 degrees on my plate and my dyna on curve 3, the most advanced. With stock gearing, 10 paddle haulers on a 6 over arm, mine launched in 2nd all day long without any issue. I agree...lower than 6K RPM, you're not making power....and if you fall off that power...it takes a sec for you to get back in the pipe on that motor. Here's my bike as said, launching in second...that's me in the far lane, with my 245 lb fat ass not to mention. And this was some thick, wet ass heavy sand, too.... http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6136815352508756093
  7. Dammit...and I was hoping to see a different kind of "Jugs" when I read the topic.... yeah, dark...and, you're not taking any pictures of the transfers either.
  8. remove the snorkel if you haven't already. 250 to 270 main to start, might be a bit rich. stock needle. Air screws about 1.0 to 1.5 turns out, roughly.... You MIGHT have to up your pilots one, if it runs best with the air screw less than 1 turn out. FMFs tend to like a fatter pilot, but...you're 1000 feet up and have the lid on. Trying to start you off a bit rich cause it's cold (cold here in MI too...)
  9. Network admin/infrastructure engineer for a medium sized restaurant company... But...it's pretty much, if it has a power cord plugged into it, I'm responsible for it one way or another!
  10. You bring that wheelie bar to LS for the HQ trip I'm crying foul...cheat....LOL.. :yelrotflmao: Whole reason I'm going 14 over is I don't want to run a wheelie bar...
  11. I thought it was CR125 reeds, not sure meself though..
  12. Cam... Had the SAME exact motor. Plus a dyna and nology on the ignition side. Bone stock tranny....left in second gear over a hundred times at the 300ft drag strip, and plenty at the dunes last year. Also had similar tires (mine weren't extremes) on a 6 over arm. You're gonna have a fun bike to ride, wheelie at will!! I agree...unless you're going HUGE...billet 2nd isn't needed. That being said, 1-5 with nuetral down is the way to go, duneable. Whitaker Racing does a lot of dunable overrides. They will tell you you still shouldn't let the bike slow down using the tranny/compression...but, if you let off the gas without pulling in the clutch, it is more forgiving. Also...You can downshift it as well...without having to come to a near stop.
  13. the rolling chassis is sold pending funds. Made a deal with someone, slight down payment this week, balance paid in a couple weeks...and he's going to come and pick it up... If that falls through or he ends up backing out...I'll repost it up. He was nice and pretty straight forward on the phone...so, sold for now!!!
  14. My company will NOT be jumping on this bandwagon for quite some time. Too many older legacy programs that may not work, horrible driver support, etc., AT THIS TIME, I should add. Office 2007 is a royal pain too. I work in the IT industry, as well. I probably will have the company purchase a copy so we can get some hands on for the OS...but, I won't even THINK about putting it into production. I would explain XP as windows 2000 on steriods...albeit fluffy ones. Vista is a WHOLE new animal... And I come from quite a few years in the biz, from back in the windows for work groups 1.1 all the way to what we have now..
  15. One word for you. NYUK The official graveyard keeper of the HQ.
  16. RNBRAD runs trinity's and swears by them. He has said they are comparable to T5s in curve, power...with probably a bit more.... See if he jumps in or PM him. Free bump... I haven't heard from Jim, J...so, if the carbs gotta go, they gotta go!
  17. I'm hoping to add dajogejr to that list...stay tuned!!!
  18. I have seen this seat cover in person as well...will vouch for it being in good shape!!
  19. PM ojcool. He's got some wideband sensor tuning he's done recently....(Make sure you tell him dajogejr still says you gotta read the plugs... :yelrotflmao: )
  20. You riding temps and elevation help....
  21. His jetting is fine, if anything a hair rich. He's got an airbox AND lid...just removed the snorkel. You get into the 300's once you remove the lid and it's cold, or once you remove the whole air box. I think it's either the rider, tires...gearing, or not enough motor to pull third....IN SAND....
  22. Actually...you can use them up to .100, but...after .080, you're really thin on the waterjacket to cylinder material. I know someone will chime in and say theirs runs great, no problems...yadda yadda about being at .100...but, it's thin. Once you get to a big bore piston, 68mm or larger, you'll need domes cut.
  23. I've go an idea...who wants to back me? I'm going to get a bunch of rat traps and mouse traps and put wheels on them. Think of the commercials... World's first dual purpose derby car...not only is this a championship winning derby car, it can catch rats/mice when it's not at the races... Comes complete with a coupon for 1.00 off your next jar of jiffy peanut butter for bait. Order now while supplies last, 3 easy payments of 13.33... What a joke....sheesh. Who wants in on my business venture?
  24. Good to know Chase. Big Deal, a few weeks of down time...glad to hear your up. I'm gonna be hitting you up in the next few weeks for decals/vinyl for my new build. Frame going to Powder coaters this week!!
  25. Meat... Let me clarify... I've seen a worked over 404 motor, meaning it was ported and had a good overall package done to it. That being said, my 421 spanked it in a 300ft drag, he had a lockup and override...I had a stock clutch and stock tranny. My experience against a 404 was strictly drag, strictly 300ft. That is why my post starts out: "For Drag Racing" I have absolutely NO DOUBT is it a better all around motor for duning, trails, etc. It has to be...a cub is pretty much a top end, dune and drag motor...it doesn't take much to make an all around better motor than a cub. A good set of ported stock cylinders setup properly is a better "all around" motor no doubt...and a blast to ride. So...that being said, my specific statements of a 404 Vito's vs a cub being a joke stands true in the drag racing perspective only, as I wrote. I don't' think I misrepresented anything incorrectly in my statement, and it was out of 100% experience...
