help getting ball joints out
Wallrat replied to EastCoast Banshee's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
I made my own tool out of a couple pieces of threaded pipe (think it was 1.5") and a coupling. After I remove the castle nuts I just tighten up the pipe into the coupling real tight then insert it in between the spindle. Next I put a couple pipe wrenches on it and start loosening it thereby expanding it. Usually after the first one pops I gotta reposition it to get the 2nd one. Works like a charm and cost me about $20 and about 5 minutes to make it. I can get both ball joints out in less than 5 minutes now. -
What tires are you running? Before spending a bunch of money on mods, try dropping a tooth on the front sprocket or adding 3 teeth to the rear (will probably need a longer chain if adding teeth).
-
As a rule of thumb, just start w/ 5psi and adjust from there. 5psi is enough to give you good float, a softer ride, and you won't blow the beads off by jumping. If the sand is wet you can put in a couple more psi but I usually don't bother. If you don't jump you can drop 1-2 psi.

Yeah both of you are running the wrong gearing. I agree w/ duece, put on a 15 and see how it does. You'll probably end up w/ a 15 front and then you can fine tune it a little w/ the rear. Stock is 14/41 by the way. I've got 15/41 on my stroker and I'm close, but not right yet. I was pulling 5th up Oldsmobile on 20" sandstars. As an added bonus, your chain/sprockets will last longer by ditching that 13!

In California you could probably get about $8,000 for it.

Usually the TPS doesn't even need replacing. You just gotta hose it down w/ some throttle body cleaner and its good to go. I've seen it happen more than a few times.
-
Do a search. I know I've personally broken down the pricing for everything in at least a dozen posts - others have done the same.

I'd definately agree that the world is a better place because of religious faith. Yes, more wars have been fought and more people killed over religion than any other reason but then there's also countless crimes that weren't commited due to the fear/respect/promise/etc. of a higher power. Enjoy whatever religion (or lack of) that you cling to. But both sides need to "keep thine religion to thineselves!"

I've got no complaints about mine. Doesn't feel like its lacking in any part of the rpm range. On the stock swinger my front end comes up in the first 4 gears on FLAT sand everytime it gets on the pipe. Its getting a +2 swinger as well as an extra tooth up front to try and make it a little friendlier to ride.

I posted this back in the Easter thread. Too lazy to retype it so here it is copy and pasted: So how old is the earth? Like 4.5 BILLION years old? And recorded history? Maybe 32,000 years (if you're counting cave drawings). So lets see, we've got a human record for about 0.0007% of the life of the planet. I doubt cavemen were very in-tune to noticing evolutionary changes, so really we've only been looking for evidence of evolution for about 0.000003% of that time. Damn, we must have missed it! If you wanna do the math, that'd be like spending 0.93 seconds of a 90 year life span looking for something. I can't even find my car keys ONCE in 0.93 seconds, so I guess my car keys don't exsist either! Glad to get a little extra mileage out of all that math I had to do during a long night shift...

Click benbb's jetting faq in my signature. It covers alt. changes.
-
I'm running a single 35 on my 4mm w/ dune port. The 38 should give you better top end but you might sacrifice some throttle response and it might be a little tougher to get the jetting dialed. But to answer your question, should work fine.

Rear wheel hubs have a different bolt pattern (newer hubs will fit the axle tho) Rear bearing carrier (thing that connects the swingarm to the axle) is different - uses 3 bolts instead of the newer 2 bolt design. Axle lock nuts are notched instead of normal nut shape Front spindles are a different design (I think everything still fits the same tho) Stock gearing is different Doesn't have a brake light, just a tail light Doesn't have the mounts on the frame for the newer style heel guards Wiring uses different connectors Seat is a thinner foam I think that's everything.

You need a chain breaker like this one: Tusk Chain Breaker Course you prolly have to get one at the stealership so expect to get a motion pro or something similar for $30-$40.

Magic Rocky Mountain ATV K&K East Coast ATV Wicked Passion Terrain plays a big part. If you're just drag racing on flat ground then go w/ motor mods and ignore the suspension. If you're riding on anything else, I'd definately consider upgrading the suspension even if it means not tapping into some of the potential on the engine. Its not very difficult or expensive to build a shee that will walk all over all but the knarliest of 450's in a drag. So I ask again, what kind of terrain? Any mud/water involved? What's he got done to his 450 (if you know)? What do you have done to your shee already (if anything)?

What kinda riding and what's your price limit?

From their website: This kit includes: Stage IV Exhaust System Stage IV Porting Cylinder Head Mod Gasket Kit 35mm Carburetor Kit Wiseco Piston Kit Is it worth the $1982 price tag? Not in a million years. Aside from their pipes, trinity has only impressed me with their ability to charge way too much money and actually get it! If you didn't go trinity, here's what it would cost you: Pipes - $600 porting - $300 shaved head - $50 tops gasket kit - $20 35mm carbs - $140 on ebay or $380 new intakes and filters - $170 (w/ billet intakes) piston kit - $130 Total: $1410 - $1650 Depending on the porting, HP would prolly be somewhere in the 50's.
-
Depending on your porting you'll either need some new cyls or some new porting. If you just drop the crank in I'd say you'd get MAYBE 2 HP more than a stock stroke crank. If you get the porting to match the +4mm, then you should be able to get up into the high 50's at least.

Don't use anykind of synthetic in your banshee. If you do your clutch will slip like a mofo. I lube my chain after every weekend of riding.
-
With an 11 tooth up front your chain is gonna be dead w/in a couple months. Shoulda gone bigger on the rear instead... For sand on my piped shee I liked 13/41. On 14/41 I could never get it out of 3rd. Once I got my motor work done I switched back to 14/41 but now I've got a 15T up front to see how that does.

I just don't buy into the whole kinder/gentler BS for girls. My wife gets the big 'ol ego boost everytime I offer to let somebody ride my shee and they won't touch it cuz of the twist. Don't get me wrong, she uses a thumb on her yfz and hates my twist, but she can ride it - she just has to take it easy. If I put a thumb on her yz80 she'd refuse to ride it until I un-gayified it. Do what you want but what happens down the road when somebody offers to let her try out their bike and she passes cuz she doesn't know how to ride a twist? Its alot easier to learn to ride a twisty w/out having to unlearn a thumb.
-
No he's right, they do come in 3's. This just means you're now working on your second string of shitty times (i.e. that was #1.2, not #4). I'd stay away from busy intersections until #2.2 and 3.2 run their course.
-
Even kid's bikes come with a twist. Why? So that kids will learn how to properly ride. I don't think you need to do anything to encourage her forming a bad habit. What happens down the road if there's an emergency and she has to ride on a bike w/ a twist? I made my wife learn to ride my twist banshee just cuz if I ever get hurt messing around on her yfz, that's what she's gonna be using to go get help. Worst thing that'll happen is she'll fall down a little more often. I started off riding dirt bikes. I can think of 4x in the last 16 years that I crashed because of the twist. 3 were in the first 2 months of starting riding, and the 4th was just over a year later. If you're worried about her safety, sell the bike and buy her some knitting needles.

I'm not saying they're bad, not in the least. I'll still order from them, I just kinda want to see the replacement pipe before I get it ya know? I've spent a few thousand dollars w/ RM so far, and this is the first time I got anything less than perfect. I was more surprised than anything.
