TIM LUTZ Posted June 13, 2014 Author Report Posted June 13, 2014 (edited) If the base material is too soft, then yes, hard anodizing is pointless. ..BUT, if the base material is the proper hardness then the hard anodizing helps. Exactly. I'll stand by my statement about the steel basket being not only a waste of money, but inferior to a PROPER billet basket in our application. Years of use by 1000's of banshee owners is all the proof needed. The guys behind and promoting this steel basket are trying to reinvent a wheel that doesn't need it. I like the idea of being able to run the extra plate in this basket with the proper inner hub. The type if riding I do will like the extra 15% holding 15% life I get with an extra plate. So that was a key selling point. Edited June 13, 2014 by TIM LUTZ Quote
trickedcarbine Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 Ya, not as expensive as when I last looked. But there is no way to keep that thing oiled. So the basket might last, but your clutches will glaze faster. Quote
RollinRhino Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 Here is Hinson's website and you'll notice that the Banshee system is aluminum. It might be just me, but Hinson has a lot of experience in this field and I'll trust what they are saying. http://hinsonracing.com/product/complete-billetproof-conventional-clutch-kit-yamaha-yfz350-banshee-8-plate-1987-2006/ Most all the factory teams in MX and SX use Hinson and swear by them. WINDYCITYJOHN400 Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 Hinson INVENTED the aftermarket basket. They know a little about it...... Quote
87sheerips Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 Buy hinson clutch or a complate running (turd) banshee... That price is crazy but the money is all there... Nice unit. Quote
TIM LUTZ Posted June 13, 2014 Author Report Posted June 13, 2014 Just thought I'd thrown this in the pot and give it a stir. Now standard on all Barnett clutch baskets. "stainless steel inserts which are 50% harder than before for extreme durability and to virtually eliminate grooving of the basket fingers" http://www.barnettclutches.com/off-road-clutch-baskets.html Quote
sprinklerman Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 Also unnecessary. Sent from a van down by the river Quote

Coupelx Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 I run 8 plates in my 7plate Hinson with the stock hub and pressure plate. Quote
sprinklerman Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 Did you know Hinson also makes a steel clutch basket. Not for the banshee. As said before, they pioneered the aftermarket basket for the banshee...and THEY use a billet assembly. Sent from a van down by the river Quote

locogato11283 Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 I also run an 8 plate with OEM inner hub and pressure plate. I run Magnum baskets. Quote
2004LEBanshee Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 Just curious what would be the overall difference in motor rotating weight if someone ran a steel basket but switched over to a lightened flywheel. Would that counter the basket weight or not enough? Quote
2004LEBanshee Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 I run magnum basket and mattoon back plate and bushings. Seems to be the best of both put together imo. Quote
