I've ridden a few R1's, I thought they only turned 11,500rpms......Either way, my gixxer only hit 135mph in 3rd gear at 14,500rpms...The R1 is pretty comparable for speeds..

Try shaking the shee around before you start it. I tried a different oil and now I have starting issues. The oil separates from the gas over time and starts hard since the oil is on the bottom. It might not be your problem, but its worth a try...

Gimmie an idea where to start with jetting
Banchetta replied to sschevy383's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
No lid.......start w/ 330 mains, needle 4th or 5th clip from the blunt end (try both and determine the better one on the low end), stock pilots, adjust air screws. Do a wot run in 6th gear for 5-10 seconds, shut it down, coast to a stop , pull the plugs and look at them. Black is too rich, Dark brown is perfect, tan or white is too lean...This only for adjusting the mains.. -
Like Benbb said, but he's is being the least cost. I'd add a couple of bills to be safe. YOu have to bore both sides the same, it'll probably take .020 to clean it up. I know, I did one.. I'd get a new crank, piston kit, gaskets, NOss head, +4 timing key, and shift star. Cost around $800-950 depending on head choice..thats w/ shipping and everything. I'd also go w/ Pro-x pistons. My .02, there is a lot of personal oppinions on this..

The carb bowls will ONLY affect starting...

Just look at the plugs. If you see sparkly silver specs, then thats detonation. Don't ride it. If not, then you should be fine. Buy a compression tester and check your compression, that'll give you peace and mind and let you know where you stand. You should have one anyways. They only cost $20-50...Go back to B8ES. The 9's are just cooler..

make sure you didn't switch the carb bowls when you took it apart. ONly one carb bowl has the choke jet in the bottom of the bowl for the choke carb...also make sure the choke tube between the carbs is still there and that you didn't put the slides in the carbs backwards (cutaway should face air box)

I agree, these newer bikes are pretty sick and make the 5-10 year old ones look like dinosaurs. My gixxer was only a 750 and hit 85 in first and topped out at 186mph in 6th gear off the rev limiter. I could get more out of it if I regeared it..The gixxer 1000's were pulling 9:2's @ 146mph in the 1/4. That was 2 years ago, supposedly the zx12's are supposed to smoke the gixxer 1000's in the 1/4. Give them another couple of years and you'll see stock bikes running high 8's in the 1/4.... There is no such thing as a slow bike anymore......

Tell that to my carb bowls, when I pull them off and they have oil on the bottom w/ gas on top. . I'm no oil expert, but thats whats happening....
-
some people claim there is, but when I dynoed my stroker I did a base run w/ the air box and a run w/o the box or filter. NO change....Note: the air box had no cover.

Needles have a big affect on the performance, but aren't as tempermental as the mains. I don't move my needles once they are set, so don't worry about temp....

Gimmie an idea where to start with jetting

I'd start w/ 300 mains, but I need to know what filter setup you plan on running and any air box mods.... -
How jetting affects the plugs...
Banchetta replied to SouperSport's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
I don't have a lot of time right now, but the plugs should last over a year. I change my once a year and not because I have to. I run 32:1 oil. A black plug on normal riding is normal since the pipes aren't hot enough or motor to burn the gases completely. Run it wot in 6th gear and that plug will look better than if you cleaned it... -
Need a good place to start w/jetting
Banchetta replied to cudaz101's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
Get a K&n filter w/ adaptor plate. the stock one will allow sand to get by. W/ the air box mod, filter, pipes and reeds. ........290 mains, needle 4th clip from blunt end, stock pilots this is for summer.. temps colder than 40 degrees, run a 310-320 mains w/ a 27.5 pilot.... -
I'd go for it. You can't beat that for $75. the ohlins are completely adjustable so you might be able to fine tune it closely for you. Shit I might even try one...

Upper bearing or lower bearing? Upper bearing, then around 250-300. Lower bearing then add another 500 to that....
-
disconnect the little black box above the left exhaust (3-wire plug), then disconnect the parking brake switch at the connection, you have to follow the wire down around the gas tank..
-
check the choke tube between the carbs, make sure it was still on correctly. Also try disconnecting the black box above the left exhaust. There is a 3 wire plug. Then disconnect the parking brake switch on the handlebars, follow the wire down to a connection and disconnect it...

I'd say late spring or early summer. Hopefully the rain will hold out this time.. The was at least 50 or so people the first time, hard to tell, the camp spread out and around quite a ways and a lot of people I didn't get to meet because of all the rain...CF2!!!!!!

I was gaining it all in 60' and 330', from the 1/8 to the 1/4, my times were exact. I origianally only got 2.1's for 60' times, then got it down to 1.7's, then put the extended swingarm on and brought it down to 1.5's..everytime I lost a .1 in the 60' times, seemed like I'd also lose a .1 in the 330' time also, so I'd gain .2 total off my times..Your just getting better out of the hole. Hp will give you top speed, but your launch affects the ET's....Its awesome to see other rookies show up at the track running 11's w/ the same exact bike, then you line up and smoke them by over ten bikes lengths...they come running over and asking what I have done to it.....Its bone stock, you just have to learn how to launch it...they look at you like your an asshole...
-
I was just suggesting to borrow some for problem solving...carbs are expensive and don't have much power gains unless your ported or stroked, so I wouldn't waste your money too soon......I've got one, what kind of oil are you using and what kind of ratio??
-
Sredish is right. You have a lean bog....Rich needles will spit and sputter and powerband won't even kick in...Hesitation is ALWAYS caused by leaness. I've always found that shees run the strongest at the clip below richness....If you go to the 4th clip and it runs great, then try the 5th clip, it might get even better. One clip will make a big difference and it'll either get better or worse, no inbetween...Trail and error, let us know what your settings are...
-
Don't forget, he's at 0-30 degrees outside......165's maybe lean for that temp...

doesnt feel liek i have much compression

You said Jim bored them, but you didn't mention you had him port them to......Can't give answers, not explaining what you had done.....Details, son, details..... -
Its not detonation if you didn't see any silver on the plugs or little aluminum sparklies.... I'd bump up your jetting to at least a 300 main. Its winter and you should be running larger mains for the colder air...try that and let us know.
