  1. LOL!!! I'm cool with the razzing Deuce. The LAST time I ever rode a trail was over 2 years ago (well, almost 3), it cost me both head lights, and most of the powder coat on the front end of my banshee. Not to mention my chest, knees, etc. I decided this time, if I ever get this thing finished, I'm going to ride the hell out of it, but no more trails or mountainous terrain. Its gonna be one of those sand bikes you always see, in the sand. But hell, I've been hit by rocks the size of a fist at the base of Sand Mountain before. Hit me right in the face mask of my helmet. LOL about a 60mph rock.
  2. COOL PICS! Thanks for the link Deuce. It looks like The Knolls, just out side of Wendover, on the Utah side. Dunes, and some hard pack dirt/salt and some soft packed, but no paint/headlight/knee/eye/head damaging rocks. The swingarm I'm having welded TOMORROW (finally!!!) isn't going to have a skid plate mount. SO I've got to bone up on my LEFT! RIGHT! LEFT! RIGHT! skills, until I get skid plates made. Well, that and the $400 in chrome I have on the front end of my bike........
  3. Don't forget experience and patience. Lefty hit it right on the head. They could have even used some flourescent lighting to help bring the grain and other scratches out in the aluminum, + messed with the camera angle so the light reflects directly back to the camera, exposing any unpolished surfaces. Incadecent light and sun light is how I inspect my parts, because it is IMPOSSIBLE to get every scratch out under flourescent lighting. Nothing is as easy as it looks. To polish on of my smallest parts takes around 10-15 minutes. This includes 2-3 steps of sanding, rough polish and finish polish. Bigger stuff (As in MeatHeads power valved jugs) can take weeks.
  4. Question about the desert running. My banshee is pretty much going to be a trailer/sand queen when I get it done, and I really don't want to ride on rocky terrain. What is the desert floor like? If its like the salt flats, and its pretty much just dirt with a smattering of small pebbles thats coo, but I don't think I'm going to want to drag it out into gravel/out cropping type of terrain.
  5. LOL!!!!
  6. $165/year for full coverage through Allstate. Fire, theft, acts of dumbass.....they'll pay it.
  7. People asked me after I wrecked if my helmet saved my head from getting hit by anything. Honestly I don't know, and I glad to say that. Either I didn't get hit in the head or hit my head on any rocks or parts of the bike (doubtful) or my helmet did its job. Also when fitting a helmet too small and too big are bad news. Too big, and it can come off when/if you wreck, and it can also slide all over your head causing damage etc. Too small will expose your chin. The helmet should be below your chin about an inch or so when done up properly. I had a gash in my cross bar pad from where my helmet hit it right after I bought my banshee, and miscalculated a jump. Glad I had it on both times I've made contact with that cross bar.
  8. LOL What I meant was, am I gonna get lost, as in are there 10 camp grounds, or 1? I usually don't end up lost though. Once I've been somewhere its easy for me to remember. BUT if you're gonna throw up signs, not a problem. LMMFAO!!! Yeah, bring some pom poms, and a big pink megaphone to cheer me on as I fly up that thing. Sadly, I have no front tires for open desert. I will have sand tires only for now.
  9. LMMFAO!!! The only part that would even be remotely hard about getting there is finding a place to take a dump along the way. Is there more than one place to camp?? The first time I went to Sand Mountain Ut, I got ditched. There are about 5-6 camp grounds, all about 20 miles apart from one another. I just waited at a cross road until someone came back to get their beer from my truck
  10. I've had this happen on many occasions, but if you see someone on the "who's on line" list, you can PM them with a question if its something you need answered right away. The person you are asking may not always have the answer, but its a place to start if you're in a pinch.
  11. There may be some instances of someone coming in that knows absolutely nothing about anything, and that is fine, but it is obvious when someone is being a dumbass. There have been a few in the last years that didn't know much, but they asked me/others, I/we helped them, and they progressed. It was obvious they were serious about learning, and not just posting crap for the sake of something to do. Maybe it just comes down to the REPORT button as a way to "vote". We as moderators can collect the "votes" and nicely (as hard as that may be sometimes) warn the person in "violation". If it continues much more, then ask Lee to take aggressive actions, whether its a temporary banishment to let them think about things, or permenant, and let them go play at TeamDunesATV for a while.
  12. Stan, Stan, Stan....... Check this link mapquest dumont I hope your not trying to skip out on this trip.... I dont want to have to hunt you down! LOL!! Mostly looking for a place I can stop if I forget to bring something. Planning a trip more than about 500 miles round trip for me is like trying to shoot an arrow through an open box car thats 5 miles away, and traveling 55 miles per hour. I got to plan, plan, plan. I got some shit on my agenda, that hopefully will be off my agenda in the coming week. The only things that may keep me from going is finances, and if my Banshee is put together or not. If none of my buddys want to go fine. I'll make the drive myself. I aint scared. EDIT** LOL There are more directions getting me to the freeway in front of my house that there is to the dunes. I get on I-15 and stay there for around 540 miles. Hang a right at CA-127 and another 33 miles gets me to within 2 miles. Then it says I need a map.
  13. St. Anthonys is my favorite spot to kind of get away from the crowds, and slide some dune faces. The razor backs are perfect for whipping the ass end around for a good picture. Hope to get out there this year more than once.
  14. You have no idea how jealous I am right now.
  15. Baker California was mentioned as a close town to the dunes, but is there a zip code or anything near or around the dunes so I can map quest this thing?? Personally I can't stand Vegas other than whats on The Strip, so I would need to take my final stop in Mesquite, or pass on to another town.
  16. Not to stray off subject, but DAMN that is sad to hear you have no legal places to ride in the whole state. Why is that? Any particular reason, or just because The Powers That Be said so? Any legislation to open up legal riding areas or trails?
  17. I like BigBoyBanshee's idea.
  18. Not to punish all because of the actions of a few, but here's an idea I had that might calm things down. 1) Limit the number of threads a "newbie" can start to 2-3 per day. (might help them learn to use the search function or at least think about what they are going to ask) 2) Limit the number of posts a "newbie" can make to around 5 per day. I guess you could define "newbie" as someone with 75 posts or less. I think this will let them earn the privilage of using this great forum as a source of invaluable information and, if they are a true and solid member, I wouldn't think it would bother them. If they are here to post bullshit, it will get old being restricted. This idea might be really flawed. What do you's guys think?
  19. LOL SAME HERE!!! The dealer, my insurance agent at the time, and my loan officer at my bank. When I went to my buddys house to go for that first ride his dad came out of the house and asked him if he brought any extra body bags for me.
  20. I don't think you can swap brands of parts, as far as I know. Never heard of such a thing to be honest.
  21. I've seen it at both Sand Mountain Utah, and St Anthonys. They can haul ass, but the sand and rocks here are rough on the skis. Got to wax them with that sand boarding wax or something.
  22. BAH...that brought back some bad memories. I know a group of kids that use to do that with BB guns. One of the pumped his gun more that he should have, and shot his buddy in the throat. They had to rush him into the ER to get the bb out of the back of his esophagus.
  23. I hadn't ridden an atv for almost 6-7 years when I saw pictures of my buddy at the dunes pulling the front tires off of the sand. I looked at him, and said 'You are having more fun in that one picture, than I've had in nearly 10 years" 2 months later I went out and bought it without ever riding one. When we finaly got a place to ride it was the most amazing thing I have ever experienced. I would hit the gas, and the tires would brake loose on the dirt/grass, and I would slide to the back of the seat. The first time at the dunes sucked because I didn't have paddles, but it still kicked ass.
  24. HAHAHA Thats sick!!!!
  25. Don't use anything thats gonna bugger the splines on the kickstarter shaft. Its easilly replaced, its just a hassle. Mine jumped out at me the other day and I spent about 30 minutes wrestling that thing back to where it goes.
