damn, that sucks.. i swear i always get hurt when im just out fuckin around. its always a good idea to protect your melon. just think how bad it wouldve been had you not been wearing your helmet.

splitting the cases is no big deal. it would help if you had a clymer's manual to guide you in case you get confused, but for the most part its pretty straight forward.. i can take a motor all the way apart and put it back together in a few hours so you guys should be able to do it in a weekend with no problems.

hahahaha, yea it is. i forgot about that.. BUT, i bought if off ebay and not from trinity directly. it was the cheapest one i could find, so i will give them props for this one thing.

Trails or Dune...Which requires more skill.

Sounds a lot like hillclimbing. Add in some jumps and occasionally a 90 degree turn and that's what I am doing all year long. Well, on dirt anyway. -

come on now! while that hillshoot was badass, its pretty much hit the throttle and go. no trees, rocks, branches or ruts to get you to change direction quickly. basically pin it and go.. but, it was badass and id like to ride that shit for sure. hillclimbing in general can get tricky for sure. also, that water crossing doesnt really relate to either dunes or trails as we can find water anywhere. i will say though that the guy on that 3 wheeler has large balls to be trying that. ive never done a water crossing. i think i need to try this year. -
never heard of them.. however, i dont recommend bothering with stock rear shocks. i have heard of people having upwards of $400 in them. for that kind of money you can usually find a good used aftermarket rear shock. no way id dump anywhere near that kind of money in a stock shock.
-
i think if youre not willing to wait and snag a set of elkas that you should just do some 450 shocks. they can be found very cheap. however, you will need +2 arms to use them which is not a bad upgrade anyway.

it takes skill in the dunes to stay alive with all the morons! -
they can r and d all they want but there isnt a chance in hell i would run a swingarm with no chain guide. also, the distance from the swingarm pivot tube to the shock mount doesnt change on any swingarm. the length comes from whats behind the shock mount. i guarantee you that the black one i posted the pic of is no longer than stock. nick, i dont care how many posts you have. if you had a million posts here i would still be saying the same thing. i flat out think its stupid to not run a rear chain guide. let us know the first time your chain comes off. (i bet you wont) tim, i am curious... would you ever send a swingarm out without a rear chain guide?
-
i cant understand what would possess anyone to spend $670 on something like this in the first place. stellars heavy duty swingarms (with chain guides) run about $425 with powdercoat. carriers are about $160. also, i just noticed that on their website a couple of their swingarms have a chain guide mounts. none of them look longer than stock. i still maintain that anyone not running a rear chain slider is asking for trouble.
-
the longer the swingarm, the more necessary it is to have a chain guide. the chains get to whipping and can pop right off a rear sprocket without a guide. youre going to be pretty disappointed if you throw a chain due to not having that guide on there. is it worth possibly busting your cases?
-
i would NOT run a swingarm without a chain guide. you are asking for problems by running it like that. most swingarm builders do in fact put chain guide brackets on their swingarms. in fact, avenger is the only company ive ever heard of that didnt. ive had swingarms by eyeball engineering, gt performance, stellar and seen many more and they all had chain guide mounts.
-
what the fuck? only +4 and above? what about a stock length swingarm? doesnt it have a chain slider? if you run that bike with NO chain slider, there is a very good chance the chain will come off the rear sprocket. that guide is on there for a reason, no matter how long or short the swingarm is.
-
fuck that. id send it back. he shouldnt have had to wait a month and pay that kind of money for something that isnt right. i guarantee i would be on the phone demanding they make it right.

premium members can edit their own posts. for $670 they wouldnt even put the bearings in for you? and if it doesnt have a chain slider bracket, you might as well send it back.

DIRT WHEELS (April edition)

for real. i have 20,000 posts and have been here for 10 years and still no one will believe me! -
thats cool. to be honest, everyone should run cheaper tires.. that way, when they start to get worn down you dont feel like you have to run them until they are bald. there are a lot of tires out there that once they lose their sharp edge, they are pretty much done. most of the itp and maxxis tires are like that. i dont have any of the razr tires on hand or i would do a side by side comparison on them and the ohtsus, but i have found the tread patter on the ohtsus to be a lot better do to length and width of the lugs and the spacing. i will do my best to explain why the irazrs arent that good. first, they are heavier than hell. turning weight is everything. the heavier they are, the harder they will be to turn. thats no good when youre wanting wheel speed. second, the lugs arent very tall on them. i was surprised when i initially tested them many years ago at how short the lug is. of the whole group, i think i was least impressed with the irazr. another issue with them is that the lugs dont flex. with the lug not giving under pressure, the tire simply keeps spinning without being able to grab anything. with the ohtsus, the lug is wider and narrower with the inside of the lug being hollow. the legs flex a great deal so once the lug is on the ground, it will keep trying to bite as it keeps rotating, unlike the irazr which will simple skip over the ground. now, there are different rules that apply to uncut tires and since this thread isnt about that, i wont go into it. as far as general riding abilities, the ohtsus will hook in a wider range of terrain. and again, if i had two of the tires on hand, i could demonstrate this better. this is pretty much spot on. if ohtsu would make a heavy duty 6 ply tire, i feel very confident that tons of people would use them. their lug pattern is very good. haha, dirt tires are one thing i have a lot of r&d invested in. in fact i have way too much time in it.
