I have all kinds of metric sizes. And yea, the solid ones can be pit in with a screw driver, and then you hammer down the pins to lock them in place. But, they can, and have worked loose on me. I don't trust those as much as I would a helicoil...

It is necessary. It locates your cylinder onto the case. You need one of these. 99510-12016-00 PIN,DOWEL $2.01 From your local stealership. If what you are talking about is the sleeve that goes around the cylinder stud and slips into the top half of the case and the cylinder drops down on top of it...

My first anything was an ATC 110. Honda. Yeeehawww... I bought that baybe myself when I was in 3rd grade. Rode the piss out of it. Sold it for well more than I paid, (with the help of my pops), and got me a Kawasaki Mojave 110 4 wheeler. Rode that. Sold it to the next door neighbor, and about 2 months later, the front stub axle snapped off. Needless to say, they were less than pleased. Anyways, after that was an almighty 230 quadsport. I also got a Yamaha MX-80. Wow. I remember that bike. Had a pencil sized tail pipe. lol Rode the shit out of them bikes. Raced the 230 in TT. Later sold it. Then I got an '86 250R. For $1500, I got it, with 2 pipes, an FMF (for the stock ported cylinder) and a pro circuit (for the ported top end) and a complete extra top end, extra shocks, race cut plastics, 4 sets of wheels and tires, and a slew of parts. Rode that for awhile. Decided it was too much for me. It got stolen. Recovered. Sold it for the same amount I paid for it. I kick myself in the cock on a regular basis for that. I gota a warrior after that. Beat that thing untill it dies, then sold it. Then I got a CR 125. Raced that for awhile. Sold it. Actually, it sat in the old man's shed for years, and he sold it. I went to get it one day, and the friggin thing was missing. I was not happy. Anyways, I went out and got my shee. That's where I'm at now....

I don't think a dyno would show the needed results. It is more of a throttle response issue when you lighten the flywheel. It doesn't get the bike to make any more power. It may show however, where the power may come on earlier. I don't know though. I do know that I like the mod. It works for whhat I want it to.

You could mount a winch in there. However, there is one small problem. Actually two. That is alot of weight to be dangling uselessly off the front of the bike. THis would be detrimantal to handling. Tie a 20-30# weight on the front bumper, and see how sheeee handles.... Another problem being that the shee doesn't have a battery. Yep, you need one of those to run a winch. They don't just work themselves.

However, in softer materials, a heli coil can be beneficial. We manufare our own machinery. In a hole that gets used alot, a helicoil is sometimes installed right off the bat. THey work. We use them all the time. Fixing machines and what not. I owuld have no problem putting a helicoil in there. A solid insert could be put in as well. You would just have to drill the hole larger to fir the insert. SOmetimes, there is no room for it...
