Anyone running a steel clutch basket?
Thack82 replied to TIM LUTZ's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
I've said all I'm saying on the steel basket. Tim confirmed benifits of the steel basket over a aluminum basket on a trail/XC Banshee. All the other comments are opinions, speculations, and theorys. The three guys running a steel baskets are the only ones that are stating facts. I don't really care if anybody ever buys or tries a steel basket, I have nothing to gain or loose. There's only two steel baskets left and after they are gone no more will be made. I'm tired of going over the same shit time and Ti e again and everything I say being picked apart. You and the others that keep prodding me have made up your mind, so it's pointless to keep replying. -

You need to take that up with Hinson, they made that claim. Lets stop beating a dead horse. We all know your opinion on this topic, you made it clear in your first post. -

If there "is" a horsepower loss it's very minimal because the additional weight rides on the transmission not the crank itself like the flywheel. Tim and I both stated that we didn't feel any power loss or RPM restriction with the steel basket. -

I'll be running a Steel Basket. Are you guys planning on running me over as soon as I step out of the truck? -

Thanks for the input Tim. At this point it doesn't matter what you or anybody says, these guys have made up their minds. The added basket weight gives you all the same benefits that added flywheel weight does without hurting the RPM Rev or robbing horsepower. I would think the added torque, ridability, performance, wear resistance would be well worth $160. For a woods Banshee the steel basket is one of the best upgrades for the money. -

I might have mentioned Tyler's name one time and I was referring to his 14 mil Serval and nothing was negative. I guess if that's a lot then your right. -

I'm not building a 10 mil 521 Super Serval. My name was thrown around 5-6 times before I ever commented on this thread. -

I never stated that my IQ was higher than everyone else's. another member claimed that my presents on this thread dropped the forum IQ average by 15% and responded by saying that my IQ was higher than his. I never said "everybody". Like I've said, I've had premature clutch basket failure in the past just like Tim. I replaced every clutch component one by one chasing the issue and none of them fixed the issue so I had a buddy machine me a custom Basket for free. I didn't feel comfortable gambling a $1,000 on Hinson's Spring Loaded Basket. I've never had any type of overheating issues after I upgraded my complete cooling system and built the CP Serval. My operating temps stay bellow 180 degree's no matter what. I am running a Stealth Lockup, a oil cooling additive, and a cover that has more holding capacity. So maybe that prevents that problem from surfacing. I respect your opinion and input but I haven't been faced with any problems since I went with the steel basket and upgraded all the clutch components. -

I don't want or care if anybody runs the components or setups that I run. I'm not a parts distributor, it's not like I stand to make or gain anything. I'm simply telling others what I've found from my personal experiences. I try to build and make everything as strong and durable as I possibly can because in the past it seems like if it can be broke I'll break it. "Over Building" has saved me quite a bit of money this last go around. You know I'm all about having parts modded and machined. If I had known the stock inner hub could be modded and used for a 8-Plate Clutch Setup I would have tried it. If I had sent a OE Inner Hub out and had it machined for a extra plate and had it anodized I would have 20 guys making fun of me and calling it a idiot for for upgrading a stock inner hub, but if somebody else does it its a good idea. I'm afraid if I post the details of the motor I'm building or mention the builders name for fear of a bashing session. It is big and it's being built by a reputable site sponsor. -

The builder that's building my new motor recommended the billet 2nd gear. That's the only reason I'm doing it. -

Who do I have a weird obsession with Nightmare350? My name was thrown around a lot before I even commented on the thread. I don't want to start shit with any of you and I haven't posted anything for almost a year, but I can only stand by and not reply or defend myself for so long when I'm being called names, made fun of, and bashed. If my name was left out this I wouldn't have replied to this thread. If the people that are running me down and talking about me will stop I'll delete my BHQ account. You guys don't know how many times I've wished I had never joined in first place. -

I looked at my stock inner hub and I didn't think there was enough material to machine out for the extra plate so I bought Hinson's 8-Plate Billet Inner Hub, Hard Anodized Backing Plate, and a set of UPP Cushions. So far I've had good luck out of everything. I'm having a Billet 2nd Gear Kit installed, under cutting 3-6, and having the Shift Drum Bearing Mod done while I'm building having the new motor built. The last thing I want to do is get into shifting issues again. -

Anyone running a steel clutch basket?
Thack82 replied to TIM LUTZ's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Zilla I'm done arguing with you. Have you seen my clutch basket??? My basket wasn't machined by the same person or even out of the same material. Every clutch kit I've seen had steel plates and fibers, regardless most clutch kits have steel plates. The additional rotating mass can be eliminated by removing a small amount of weight from the flywheel. So we're talking about adding a additional 1.2lbs to over all weight of the quad, and I would think that additional pound would be a good trade for a indestructible clutch basket that you'll never have to worry about grooving or breaking. I'm not trying to sell you or anybody else a steel basket. I have one and I like it but I don't get a dime when he sells one so what is it to me? Lets see what Tim says in his product review. -

The basket doesn't get hot. If what your saying is true why don't they make the clutch plates out of aluminum? You don't have a clue what your talking about. You should stop, your making your self look stupid. Are you going to argue with me over thermal conductivity? I've already posted the specific metal thermal conductivity chart which proves your bull shit theory was wrong! How's the bolt on EFI Kit coming along? Why don't you put all the energy and thought you put into attempting to discredit me into your own projects. We'd both be a lot better off if you did, and it would cut down on a lot of useless unneeded thread clutter that ends up coving up useful information that other members might be looking for. -

Oh, and Tyler as far as me threatening you and talking about fighting, that's a flat out lie! The member of the BHQ FB Group that threatened to "box your ears" if he ever saw you in person is still a member of the Facebook Group. I never made any type of physical threat to or about you or anybody else. -

The bull shit thermal conductivity theory of steel vs aluminum that Zilla dreamed up is not going to affect a ATV clutch or the transmission operating temperatures. The transmission/clutch doesn't get that hot. If it did the thermal conductivity theroy did come into play the steel would be a far better choice. The longer it takes the material to heat up the more time allows the oil to absorb the heat and disparate it. One of my degree's is in applied science, I know what I'm talking about. "IF" your worried about the extra weight limiting rev for a drag racing aplication a simple mathematic equation can be done to determin the amount of weight in "ounces" that would need to be removed from the flywheel to counteract the additional 1.2lbs gained with the steel basket. The truth is the small amount of additional weight and rotating mass spinning on the transmission actually stores energy and prevents the RPM's from falling off as quick which results in additional tq gains theirfor adding lugging power that is binifital for trail/MX racers. This also helps keep the RPM's high for better shifting power efficanty. Sprinklerman I'd be willing to bet my IQ is higher than yours. You've ran your mouth and talked enough shit about me for over a year and its getting old! You might just get your wish, I'm probably going to end up showing up at one of the BHQ rides sometime in the near future. I want to make sure your there so you can put your money where your mouth is. My Banshee is undergoing a few drastic changes and I look forward to putting you in your place! -
