Maybe for the combustion process?..How is an EGT going to check a crank or connecting rod bearing?Or even a bad stator?Only thermal transfer to the surface will. An EGT only measures how hot the combustion process is,its not an accurate measurement of internal engine temperatures.
-
I have to disagree, the external temp is an indication of internal temperatures..Internal temps are around 1500 degrees ,but since we are unable to measure direct cylinder and bearing surface temps,we must rely on external surface temps and the coolants ability to transfer excessive heat from the cylinders..When the coolant reaches its maximum thermal transfer ability, the material around it will absorb more heat and surface temps will indicate that.At that point damage may already be done, but at least you know that a breakdown is inevitable. I have lived and died by the temp gun readings as long as I have been in the business of industrial machine repair. If you know how to use one, they are the best diagnostic tool.Remember tho, they don't work well on reflective surfaces, you should not use them to gauge temps over a radiant heat source(like right above the exhaust pipe).the most effective and accurate measurements should be taken within 2-3 feet of the target.

The 500 will run out of gear,if the 500 turned the kind of rpms that the banshee does,it would probably win. I would say the closer race would be a built Honda 450r vs the CR500 .

Looks like Lebron James tarnished image took a turn for the worst. In a feeble attempt to regain his popularity,he pulls the race card. As a Clevelander and Cavs fan,I was disgusted at "the decision" and the way he jerked the city of Cleveland around concerning his resigning. He ditched Cleveland at the last minute leaving the Cavs at a loss and with no major players to sign.At the very least he could have told them he was serious about shopping around.we could have secured other talent,we had plenty of money to spend. Never once did I feel his blackness betrayed us,never once did i look at him in the terms of color. The city of Cleveland worshipped him for the what he brought to the game. The fact that he decided to make a spectacle of Cleveland with "the decision" left the people of Cleveland in digust, not because he was "black" but because of the way he went about it. http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2010/10/01/lebron-james-race-and-%E2%80%98the-decision%E2%80%99/

I find that hard to believe, you have been on this forum complaining about your banshee running like crap, messin with jetting etc etc...400ex's are probably spanking you silly.
-
Did you check your stator?Do you know how to use an ohm meter?Just like Sleeper said, you can chase jetting all day long ,if its an electrical issue, you will end up rejetting until you finally give up and buy a 4 stroke.

big bore wiseco pistons"WTF"
bigborebanshee replied to Nutwood 472's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
I would say the chamfer was not enough, the piston clearance was excessive or the engine is being run hard before enough expansion can take place. Some exhaust ports widths are close to being too big,as a result a sloppy or unexpanded piston can cock enough to cause the rings to snag the port -
Boost bottle is it worth it is a
bigborebanshee replied to MacRacer1's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Have you ever stood off to the side of your banshee and revved the engine while having your hand placed somewhere on it..it vibrates a little, wouldn't you say? Imagine that vibration at lets say 8000rpm.... The boost bottle has a greater mass and center of gravity vs the crossover tube, when vibration sets in the ,boost bottle will exert a greater force on the intake boots than the crossover tube. Its mass is centered higher and is more top heavy. Is it going to tear the boots after one ride..no,but will it tear them after a few years..yes. Carbs that are not secured will do the same, but if your running stock airbox/carbs and are tearing intake boots...ditch the boost bottle. -
stud screw next to the shift star?
bigborebanshee replied to k_allison510's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Don't forget to make the adjustment with the shifter on the shaft. The weight of the shifter will throw off the clearance to the pins if you try installing it after you make the adjustment. It does not throw it off much, but enough that you will notice it was not adjusted correctly -
yes,you can.Had a brand new ricky stator that did the same thing, except it was an eyelet that cracked and would occasionally flex and the engine would cut out.I soldered it up,been running it ever since

I put bigger domes in to bring the compression down to 150 and ran pump gas through it,plugs look normal and its not misfiring anymore.I think the 110 was too much for the 160psi and +4 timing i was running.Im half tempted to put the smaller domes back in and run it on pump gas to see if the misfire comes back.
-
I am using Sunoco 110,i was using VP 110.

Never seen this before in all my years of tuning 2 strokes,When the engine was run WOT with new plugs,it had a darker smoke ring that was obviously a little fat on the top end.The engine ran good on the bottom and the little brown spot near the insulator tip shows. It pulled ok through the mid,but instead of a brown color, the plugs are actually yellow and glossy. No heavy build up,just yellow coloring. The engine would misfire under heavy load at low and high rpms. These plugs are after 40 minutes on a MX track

Take any clutch, stock or aftermarket and add 6 of the barnett heavy duty springs and viola!..you have a clutch that will handle high horsepower and a forearm like popeye. The weakest part of any clutch, regardless of the make is the clutch springs, there is very little difference in the fibers and the friction option is steel or aluminum.

Hopefully someone from the HQ will take advantage of this steal.I have moved on to bigbore pipes, but these pipes rocked on my ported 4mill http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230524307862

That means nothing when it comes to service,i have had verizon, alltel and sprint..I had more dropped calls between alltel and sprint and verizon and sprint than you could shake a stick at. Not to mention Sprint was rated the worst company for customer service world wide less 2 years ago.Not just in cell phone, they were flat out the worst company in the world.

banshee featured in dirt rider magazine
bigborebanshee replied to shadowbanshee's topic in General Banshee Discussion
Same could be said about this or any other website that offers paid advertising or charges a premium to advertise a business. The site could have questionable vendors that have unsatisfied customers but the administrator allows them to continue to advertise because its lining their pockets. If you read dirtwheels or visit the websites merely for interesting reading, than your probably more interested in getting general information or opinion with no intent in using it to form a bias opinion of the magazine or website. I still pick up dirt wheels and dirtrider for the technical info,i could give a shit less who they pick to win their shootouts or pipe tests etc.Just as i still routinely visit websites that may show bias toward one thing or another. -
Which reed cage? Charriot or VF3...ported stock?
bigborebanshee replied to Vintage Smoke's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
I ran VF,Ported stock and Chariots The VF were the best for crisp throttle response, but they were high maintenance.Reeds would last me about a year, not bad but expensive The Chariots were the WORST in reed life.I think it is due to the design of no "bridge"..I replaced the reeds 2 times in 3 months! The petals would stick out like buck teeth. The ported stock cages with single stage fiberglass reeds lasted the longest and gave the quad the most consistent performance, but throttle response was not as good as chariots or VF If you run top-end pipes and "live" in the powerband, get yourself some stock cages, have em ported and throw a set of single stage reeds on them. -
banshee featured in dirt rider magazine
bigborebanshee replied to shadowbanshee's topic in General Banshee Discussion
I really hope they do not bring it back in its current form, the banshee needs more upgrades than fuel injection. Shocks a-arms Tires aluminum hybrid frame And AMA pro class legality Those bitches at suzuki, kawasaki and yes Yamaha forced the AMA into barring 250r from the pro class, which pretty much killed the 2 stroke atv. For as much HP these 450's are making, they should allow banshees into the pro class, its not about CC's anymore considering a Honda 450r like Joe Byrds is making 63-64 hp -
1995 F250 2wd XLT that racked 260K before I sold it..I put a set of brakes,2 sets of shocks and a fuel pump in it the 10 years that I owned it. 1998 Ford ranger 2.5l 2wd that I managed 200k with before the clutch throwout bearing forced me to junk it.I put 2 sets of brakes shocks and tires on it.It still had the original serpentine belt and cam timing belt. The blue oval proved its worthiness to me..Im not just saying it because I own one and feel the need to console my decision. It really comes down to who maintained the vehicle, thats why buying used is so risky...I don't think i would have had the same luck with my vehicles if they were from prior owners.

NOT!..I see that this is your first jeep,so I will cut you some slack.I have an 07 4dr with the same 3.8 v6.Its the engine out of the Chrysler minivan and its a PIG.If you ever have the opportunity to drive a older 4.0 I6 then you will know what Im talking about.JEEP really dropped the ball on the engine. Just wait until you throw some taller ,heavier tires on there.I put 35's on mine and I have a 6 speed. It feels like Im pulling a trailer compared to stock setup.I had to put a full exhaust, air intake and computer programmer to just get it back to how it pulled when it was stock. The only time it really feels fast is when You remove the doors and top, after it drops a few hundred pounds it really pulls like the old 4.0L.

vitos 421 won't rev on top end
bigborebanshee replied to IDAHOSHEE's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
What mains did you try? what pilot are you running? If your running a keihn carb, you should be between 48-52 on pilot depending on airbox setup and needle.I started on with 160 main and worked my way down to a 150 before it would revv clean. Also the compression you are running will make a difference on your main jet choice. The higher I went on compression, the more i had to drop the main jet. -
Take away the 4x4 factor and your lucky if it keeps up with a 400 ex .
-
Those cylinders have a nice power spread..my only question concerning them is,who is the idiot that named them Serval cat?...For cylinders like that,i would thing you could come up with something that had a better ring to it.
-
That plug looks fat on the top end,IM willing to bet even after you get the ignition problems fixed, you will probably be down to 158 or 155 on the main.
