  1. I have to agree.I have been in retail for many years, selling a variety of products. The term we use is "diversion".This is when the original product is sold for less by the manufacturer or a distributor for much less than Msrp.Sometimes the prices are so low a distributor cannot even turn a profit on it. The biggest gripe I have with companies like this is they use you for years to get the product out there, then after its mainstream, they start to sell out from underneath their vendors. This would not be a bad thing if they gave the vendors a better price, but they usually don't. I stopped dealing with companies like that and started to push products from smaller companies that I could verify were not diverting products. Some companies will "claim" they do not divert their products when in reality they do,they just have a network set-up to distribute without anyone knowing they are selling from within.
  2. I was thinking about him,but I was not sure if he was still in business.
  3. Considering the cost of the custom pipe,i want to try to find somebody close since i will probably have to ship the engine/frame by freight carrier.
  4. I will Pm him,I was not sure if he builds anything but banshee pipes
  5. I am almost finished with a yfz/Yz 465 hybrid I am building.I need a custom coned pipe.I already tried Dynoport but i was told it would be feb/mar before they can get to it due to the snomachine season.Does anyone know anyone on the east coast that has the software and capacity to build one.Any info is appreciated thanks! i can ship the frame and engine on a skid or deliver the whole quad if its not too far.Im in Ohio
  6. I agree...a fan on a 2stroke? WTF?
  7. Does the noise go away when you pull the clutch lever in?
  8. The PJ carb is your meat and potatoes in the 2 stroke world. It has been factory equip on everything from 125-500 on a range of manufacturers. It is a very simple design that utilizes a combination knob for the choke/idle and has an oval slide. They are a little tricky to jet for the novice, but anyone who understands carbs will have no problems dialing one in. The PWk is more refined.it has become the standard in kehin 2 stroke carburation. It is basically the replacement for the PJ.It utilizes a choke knob that is separate from the idle screws. The slide is also different, more of a crescent shape than oval The PWK airstryker is an "improved" version of the standard pwk.Its preferred by racers for its tuneability and wide range of performance.
  9. A leak down test will verify there are no airl eaks and a compression test will verify the condition of the top end.THAT IS IT!,there is nothing else! If they both are within spec,I would look elsewhere. Granted your carbs are in sync, jetting and fuel screws are the same.i would say the cylinder that is spitting has a bad reed petal.it is probably cracked, split or opened up a bit.If alll things check out on the carb, then go to that reed cage.
  10. Perfect example of detonation possibly caused by a lean condition.Look how black the crown is on the good piston.its not only black but glazed. it means it was running hot and lean before the detonation started. The piston should have some clean spots around the transfers windows and center of crown. If you are running compression that is borderline,a lean condition will accelerate the deto factor.
  11. I just checked, they are stainless.Im sure they last forever,at the cost of performance.
  12. Im doing a yfz/yz465 hybrid and i finally cracked open the engine.I have not seen these kind of reeds in forever!.Did not even know it was metal until i dropped it on the table and it made that "dink". I was like WTF!
  13. The yfz450 engines weighs approx 86 lbs ,the banshee I believe is about 75lbs, minus the oil tank and electrical, you are probably saving another 15lbs.So a total of 26 lbs lighter than a 4 stroke. Not tryin to hijack, just giving an example. I am building this yfz 465 now. i weighed it on a bath scale and it looks like its about 67-69lbs. Im figuring about 19lbs lighter than the 450 engine minus the oil tank, electrical at 15lbs and the radiator,overflow,2 qts of coolant, rad hoses ,Replaced the dual piston calipers for singles all around, removed intake/airbox . For another 35lbs It should make this quad approx 69 lbs lighter than a yfz450 and the Engine should make about 60 hp and 48 tq. Remember REMOVING weight is like adding horsepower
  14. I did not restore the engine bar mounts on my 465 hybrid. After I cut them out I now have plenty of room for a custom pipe.If you are really concerned with the strength, you could add some small gussets in the corners. The frame i used already had a TPR kit welded on it.
  15. Believe it or not it has the same shift star as the banshee, like shark teeth.I modded it like the one on a banshee,it should shift like butter now.
  16. A 250 was my original plan, but i had a 81' 465 that was just sitting in the shed.Considering the weight savings in that air cooled engine,it won't have to make big hp to be fast. The 465 was by far the best of the air cooled Yami's. Its amazing how well the older yamaha engines fit into these newer chassis with some minor modifications.
  17. I did the same on my YFZ,but Im putting a yz465 into it.Just had to cut the original angled mounting tubes off the frame and mount them flat on the bottom.Looks Great!
  18. I have had 4 different banshees, from 87-01'..All had aftermarket parts, blings and other special things.Stock frame and swingers. I sold everyone of them for around 3500.I could have parted them for a minimum of 4.5k. It really depend how long you want to wait before it sells ,there is a price that people are more than willing to pay, when it gets down to that,it will sell quick. I built the last one from scratch and broke even minus the labor hours i invested. Unless your quad is unique it will be hard to get anything close to what you are looking for.
  19. Is that where the original ground was connected? I inspected and rewrapped that electrical harnesss when i put the bike back together.the only connection that was bad was the yellow and black leads from the stator that plug into the tube connectors that go back to the CDI.I had to replace and re-crimp those 2 leads. The single yellow and single black. had some issues with the 200watt ricky stator that was on there before, but never with the stock stator. tires are at the shop,i printed off all the receipts I had,They will be there also when you are ready to pick the tires up
  20. Have you been using the same meter to check the stator?..If so try using a different one.The Ohm setting on meters are very sensitive, especially if you have accidentally tried to check voltage when it was set to Ohms.i have a few meters that still check voltage ok,but are not good enough to check ohms anymore. Not saying the stator is bad,but if the meter is questionable, then your just chasing your tail. When i assembled that banshee in December ,i sanded the paint off the coil, regulator and stator mounts and coated the surfaces with grease.I highly doubt its a ground issue.Double check the stator with a good meter off the engine. The only other thing you might want to check is the connections, make sure none of the wires pulled out of the pigtails.
  21. The banshee is SOLD! Thanks for the inquiries fellas,i am glad to see it went to an HQ member.
  22. I just added another engine to the for sale section.I would combo it with this quad for the right price.Check the for sale section its a 370cc
  23. This engine is a backup that I built for a trip to glamis.I was not about to go that far without having a spare engine.its nothing near my 421,but im sure it will haul the mail. The trip never happened and My banshee is in the for sale section.Aside from the lexan clutch cover, its a total sleeper.Would run great with PC,T-5 or even a CPI pipe.Price is $1000 , I can split the drive 120 max,or inquirys could be made for shipping 370cc (never started, fresh rebuild) 66mm power pistons Dune/Play port 190 exhaust 123 intake Cases are port matched Stock banshee crank (like new) Intakes were ported to match piston windows Boyesen superstock reeds on ported stock cages. All new case seals new clutch arm/bearing Tusk clutch with 3 tusk and 3 toomey springs 100w ricky stator(new, never installed)
  24. Kodie,Im going to be working as a consultant/process improvement for a manufacturing company in Asia.I will spending most of my time between China and Taiwan for the next year.Since I am single and have no ties here.
