My son's 'shee is exactly what your describing. 4mil, long rod, 795 pistons, 2mil solid copper head gasket,no porting or head work, stock pipes. Wouldn't have known it had this if he hadn't flipped it into a mud hole and I had to take the engine COMPLETLY apart.Previous owner said nothing about it, probably didn't know. IMHO doing it that way is an option for you, you can do the porting and other stuff later when you have $ and time (winter). Got a set of pipes for son, and when he wants more power I'll get it ported. Hope this helps you.
