  1. I have retapped oil drain holes before while motor was still in the quad. The aluminum taps very easy and you shouldn't have any problem getting all the chips out. Just get the next larger size tap, sometimes you also need the recommended tap drill to slightly enlarge the hole. Make sure you keep it perpendicular to the case so it will seal correctly. Then just pour some tranny fluid/oil thru to clean it out.
  2. Lots of practice, plenty of water, and try not to grip too tight.
  3. I'll take one too.
  4. Well, not if you have the right tools. In a pinch you can use a vise to compress the spring, and use several large zip ties to hold the spring compressed while you unscrew the eye from the shock shaft. This is very dangerous, and without enough very large zip ties the spring will snap back and either hurt you or at the very least scare the crap out of you! If you have the option I would recommend having someone with the correct tools take it apart. Good luck and be careful.
  5. Welcome to the HQ. For all you newbies, add your mods to your sig. It will help the rest of us when you post a question.
  6. That's what the bottom bolt goes thru to attach it to the a-arm

  8. On the rear shock you have to compress the spring, and then slip a C-washer out. On the stock fronts the bottom eye unscrews from the shock shaft.

  10. I also have a Cascade, much better construction. Best cover I have ever had.
  11. Little Sahara at Waynoka OK is 1520 acres, and the website says the dunes are from 25-75 ft. tall. Lots of good trails to ride, and also a place for everyone to drag race. Glamis is way larger, I have been there 4 different trips of at least a week each time and still haven't ridden it all. I probably spend way too much time on certain favorite areas! The dunes at Glamis are much larger, and there are also huge bowls to ride in. This is by far my favorite place to ride, but also one of the farthest from me.
  12. I had a friend that used 2 34mm stock 250R carbs on his Banshee. It ran well after he put the correct slides, needles, and jets in it. I think he had to order new carb caps with different cable adjusters too.
  13. SandBuzzard, you've got mail............
  14. I think it was only 1989-1990. I know 1987-1988 had the small size.
  15. Another way to do it is to center punch the side of the key, and then tap it into the keyway. That is what the dot on the side of the stock key is there for. I usually just center punch it in the same place and make it deeper. The silicone probably works great, but this way you don't have to wait for it to dry before reassembling. Just a little trick I've learned from swapping flywheels over the years.
  16. Yea, I would try to get an estimate from a PDA guy. If they can do it the price will be alot more reasonable. Sorry to hear about the dent in your Dodge. Mine got backed into about 2 weeks ago too, finally got a check from the guy that hit me. Small dent but the estimate is a little over $700.............
  17. The clear stock stator cover was from Minkia38.
  18. I didn't see a place to vote for having 2 Banshee's! I have a 1988 I bought brand new, and a 1990 I bought used for my wife. I must be one of the old guys on here..............................
  19. A little off topic but, a friend of mine thought he bought a Wiseco crank a few months ago. Last weekend he broke a rod, pistons didn't seize, the rod just broke and tore up his cases at a minimum. We are trying to figure out if this is really a Wiseco crankshaft. His crank doesn't have any name on it anywhere, does your new Wiseco crank have their name on it? Do the rods have the "Hot Rod" name on them? Thanks, Ron.
  20. I also use UPS regularly, never a problem. They have never lost anything, or damaged anything, and stuff always gets to where I ship it when they said it would. USPS on the other hand is another story.............

    Rear Shock

I have one but it needs either recharged, or rebuilt. The bump stop is gone too. Cosmetically is looks great, fresh black powdercoated spring also. Probably not what you are looking for but who knows?
  22. The timing advanced +4 degrees will give you 2.1 more HP, so for a few bucks that is a pretty good HP/$ ratio. Here is a pic of a modified plate:
  23. I have modified my wifes 1990 Banshee by milling the head .030", advancing the timing 5 degrees, and lightening the flywheel (Total cost = $160 plus shipping). Other than a K&N filter in the stock airbox this motor is totally stock (Probably time for a top end job after 13 years of riding). While at Little Sahara I sometimes take her quad out to the drags and have never been beaten by a 4 stroke. At the end of the drags nobody can believe that a stock pipe Banshee smoked them! I haven't had a chance to race the new YFZ450 so I am talking about Raptors and DS650s.
  24. If you want an auto, I would recommend the Honda 250EX. The Polaris Trailblazer is way too heavy, and in my experience won't hardly pull itself up a dune. The Blaster or 300EX would both make a good quad if you go with a clutch. My son's have a LT80 now, and will move up to a Blaster when they are big enough, and have enough experience.
  25. A stock flywheel from Yamaha is just about $370, depending on which website you check.
