Well, I guess we are pushing the limit with the DMX. I look at it a little differently, not that I'm right & we'll find out soon.
We leave in 1st gear taking the launch stress off of 2nd. Plus with our clutch set-up we get some cushioning on the shifts. Clutch tuning really helps to limit the shock to drivetrain parts.
As you can see our racing plans have changed drastically. Now, we are set-up to run sand. We have to spend a good amount of $$$$ to find our way back to asphalt. We have managed to scrounge up some parts for asphalt.
The BAKO Drags are 4-7 Apr.& this will be the 1st true test of the new motor. The motor was built for the 576-650cc class & fits its class a little better than the old motor did in its class.
We still are at a slight disadvantage by running race fuel in the limited head-up class (by our choice). This motor also needs around a 46mm carb, we have 41s, measured @ 40mm. At least we have a rigid chassis now to be even with the majority of the class.
We are still trying to work the logistics of taking it to Gilbert. If we can get this thing in the 3.7s at BAKO & feel like it will run 3.6s. We will probably make it to Gilbert.
I wouldn't worry to much about the BB pipes. We ran them on our 7mm race gas cub & they work great. Our bike weighs 310 & I weigh 220 dressed out. We have been faster than 6.40 with our 1/4 mile set-up.
Focus more on your riding, then the overall set-up. Then the 1st place I would look at is the clutch set-up to improve from the 6.4s.
I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think the swingarm & clutch will fix everything. This is not a slam on HJR. Timing, gearing, procedure, etc., the set-up is not working well according to you at the launch & on the hill.
No, we beat a well known west coast builder's 535 cheetah with them tuning/riding. 3 out of 3 races we got them by a half to full bike. On a holiday weekend our 1st time on the hill. Next outing they returned the favor by the same score.
Dave, I was replying to n2toofast4you about me being hooked up with the PR's. The 18 DMX was in a titanium chassis & the 535 was in the black label that we are putting the 10DMX in.
It works fairly well & they are built like tanks, but it's still lighter than our stock frame.
18DM? it's a 10DMX, or did I miss something?
I'm pretty sore, but looks like no surgery for now.
BTW, the chassis is borrowed from my adopted PR son. He will be riding it in the heads-up classes.
One of the 1st places to start is the clutch (there seems to be some other issues also). You need to lower your base/spring pressure from where you are at now. When you do that you will probably have to increase you dynamic pressure some. In your case more balls.
Clutch tuning alone is not going to fix the issues.
As for responses going all over the place. I think I'm the only one that has ran the same places he's talking about (that has replied). I know the sand/weather conditions, I had similar power, my weight was 220 during that time & I had a short swingarm +8. This paragraph I directed to whom it applies to.
Now, Windy has hit on the other issues going on with this set-up in his last 3 paragraphs.
I finally found the link for my spring tester with a little help from yamahaman126.
