  1. I was tuning on the Outlaw 525 last night and I datalogged RPMs up into 10k. So unless my RPM transfer function was off, which is possible since I just rigged it all together last night and made two quick runs in the dark..... With the 175 main I was getting 13.5:1 to 14:1 af at that RPM. Scary lean at idle, more than normal pegging the wideband lean. I need more fuel down there.
  2. They aren't. They just are not as hard to start. Seriously, weed wackers, chain saws, anytime you find a guy who can't get it started, you hear "piece of shit". 9-10 two stroke engines don't get taken care of, they get thrown into the back of the barn untill next year, then you waltz out there and grab it, with last years gas, and expect it to start right up... Well I have a chain saw that starts 2nd pull every year, and I DO NOT take care of it AT all. It's tuned right, 2 strokes are alot harder to get tuned right thats all. Old outboard boat engines are considered much more reliable than inboard gas engines. I can tell you thats true from personal experience. With a 4 stroke the clean compression stroke allows it to start on crappier a/f charge than a two stroke.
  3. pour a little gas in there and swish it around then pour it into your can. Then you got all the oil and you don't have an oily messy ratio rite hanging around to drip on everything. For what this guy is saying he is going to do he should get the yFZ no doubt. Really a Raptor 700 if he is going to do any real trial riding.
  4. Yeah, the jet kit comes with two different needles a blue one and a red one. The blue is richer, for cooler temp and lower alt (we all know the deal here) and red for alt, obviously I put the blue needle in, on the third clip cause thats what the instructions said. Now this kit is really geared toward jetting a stock bike, ie no modifications at all. It calls for a 165 main and blue needle 3rd clip for stock bike with lid on airbox. Since I modified the stock exhaust and lid I went with the 175 main and normal needle. If I raise the needle a couple clips I will prob fix all drivability problems.
  5. No it wont quit out of nowhere at idle. But you can't let this bike lug 1st AT ALL. If your not on the gas, I don't care if your on flat asphalt it will stall as soon as it gets to idle. It does make some valve noise, just clicking, I don't have another one to compare it to. This bike is brand new, like 1 hour on it. If I knew the lash spec I would pull off the valve covers and check it. I was told you need a special tool to adjust the valves by the dealer. Some of the issues I think are just jetting. The bike was way lean from the factory. I bought the JT jet kit came with needles and jets. I went from a 148 to a 175 already I only have one jet bigger 180. I'm hoping I can tune some of this out with the pilot screw (located on the bottom of the carb pain in the ass). The jet kit said 1 1/8 out but I'm thinking with the airbox mods I need to go to 2 to 2 1/2. No pilot in the jet kit of course. I do have precision drill bits that I could do the pilot with if necessary. Even with the 175 main in it I had to cover up the airbox holes I made to get it to quit backfiring on decel. I'm going to put the wideband on it this weekend and see whats going on.
  6. There is something about the predator I'm not sure what it is, I just don't like. It's a big bike, the outlaw has the same frame (for the most part) under it and it is much smaller. I don't know if it's just plastics or what. The polaris 500 is a decent engine I guess, Ihave never ridden one that was not bone stock so I don't know if they respond well to modification. You just can't go wrong with KTM though. I would never have even considered this purchase if it was polaris powered. I wish Polaris had kept the FOX shocks on the Outlaw thats for sure. All these shocks have is preload and compression dampning adjustments. The rears may have rebound. One cool thing you can adjust preload by hand, no tools needed, thats nice on the trials. I dont' know what else to do as far as mods go. No one really sells much for this bike yet... There are cams availible for the KTM 525 dirtbike and I'm sure they will work in the Outlaw, don't know if they are worth it since they are ground for a dirtbike.
  7. So far all I can tell for sure is the 525 will RAPE a stock predator 500 and not even give the common curtesey of a reach around. At least racing on asphalt with my neighbor on the predator. He talked alot of smack so it had to be done. Not really a fair race though. So far on owning this bike the major drawbacks are as follows in order of annoyance: 1) Geared too high for trails, or really anything but strait racing.. Not really sure what Polaris was thinking here, Its geared 14 front and I dont know the rear and it's not on the spec sheet on polaris website. I'm going to put a 13t front on it and see where we are. Right now in 1st gear you cannot let the bike idle it will stall at an unforseen time and it's not like the banshee with 11:1 piston you almost fly over the bars when this thing stalls. And 1st at idle is running alot faster than you want to be going when your trying to negotiate tight areas. Not that you could ride at that speed cause surprise, stall. 2) IRS, bottom line is IRS is nothing like a swingarm bike. This bike can be really really wierd around corners and oddly enough on asphalt. Just cruising it just does wierd things, almost like the steering is too sensitive. I think it has alot to do with the wheelbase measurement. Its just too short of a wheelbase, Hopefully someone will come out with an aftermarket rear A arm that will set the rear wheels back a couple inches. 3) With that in mind due to the wheelbase setup this bitch wheelies like nothing I have ever ridden, that is a good and bad thing. I almost dumped the bike on Friday doing a little hillclimb that the banshee will destory. I was about halfway up, and this hill is steep, and the front wheels decided to come up, I eased off the throttle and guess what.......STALL. I did the old 4 wheel lockup slidedown which was very exciting due to the bottom being about 6 feet wide and a deep creek at the bottom.. Lucky me It stopped right at the crest of the creekbed. 4) Trans is notchy as hell, I miss shifts alot. Its about as hard to find neutral as a banshee, No big deal there but it's just like the shee in that its' amazingly easy to find neutral when you dont want to. 5) Word on the street is the aluminum rear a arms are weak and will break if you do any serious jumping. Once again hopefully someone will come out with some aftermarket a arms for the rear. All and all I'm happy with the purchase, it fills a void for trail riding. It's not a utility quad and it's not a swingarm quad, it's a hybrid and it is very comfortable on trails not worring about ruts but still being on a sport quad.
  8. Imagehost - PicTiger Some pictures.. You can see my airbox modifications in one.
  9. I just bought one of the new Outlaw 525's. So far I am extremly inpressed with this bike. Yes the IRS is a little different espeially in the corners. With just opening up the stock exhaust and putting some holes in the lid and jetting I'm already thinking this bike is going to give my banshee a run. It's hard to really tell which bike is faster becuase they are polar opposites as far as power delivery. The 525 is an annimal out of the box and in the middle, and the banshee it insane up top. Without having someone get on the banshee and just race me, I honestly cannot tell who would win. I bought this bike to ride down at Crumpler WV (hatfield mcoy trail system). The banshee is wicked for the stairsteps but leaves something to be desired on the trails.. Really only due to getting stuck all the time. That Outlaw has 12" of carrier clearance! (springs unloaded). Total trail bike.
  10. No there is never any excuse for deleting a thread unless there is profanity or racism. I have seen that kind of bs on many boards. People have a right to post whatever thay want... Especially when it has to do with money. Moderators who protect sponsors are not doing the board any favors and it should be questioned if they should have that position. They are serving their own needs 9 times out of ten. ie they have some kind of discount with the sponsor. They know they will never get ripped off since the sponsor would never take that chance.. In fact I would venture to guess that this individuals drag frame got pushed onto the back burner multiple times due to the shop wanting to please some moderators by doing their stuff fast. It's like that in most speed shops, they have their little buddies they do stuff for and all the regular customers end up financing it.
  11. BTW putting an idle kit in the bike is not something that requires rejetting. Since you bought the bike already jetted I would do a plug chop (or use a wideband) to make sure the kid had it jetted right in the first place. 350 sound about right for pipes and pods though... but NEVER just throw in some jets that "sound" right for your mods... Do it right.
  12. Well, they claim to improve HP in the mid and top by screwing with the piston skirt design to alter the port timing of the intake. But as stated above the real way to make more power is by doing a port job. I believe that the vito pisoton COULD feasibly improve mid power by increasing the through skirt port timing but it's really a tricky way to change the way the engine breathes. I went round and round about pistons a few months ago on here when I was rebuilding. Just trust in the fact that these guys have done their homework and more than enough trial and error in the banshee department to give you sound advice. Buy the wisecos, make power with real tried and true methods, not Snake Oil. If there was valid power to be had with skirt design everyone (especially wiseco) would be doing it. **edited for spelling errors**
  13. You should look at the Can Am outlander 800 or the new Artic Cat coming out... They are utility quads but believe me they are NOT slow.
  14. Going for 4 days labor day weeked to Crumpler WV (stairsteps).... Any Banshee HQers that want to meet up send me a PM.. We have 11 people going and even a few girls.
  15. I bet its hard to type these posts.... Glad medical science has saved it... Just think not too long ago they would have just told you sorry, not only are you going to lose what got cut off by the mower, but were going to have to cut some more off to keep it from getting infected... Antibiotics are the greatest find of the 19th centry!!!
  16. Bro that is a sick ass ride in your sig. Is it is a small block? You running an old rock crusher behind it?
  17. Oh, yeah we lubed them good. And the bike had about 20 hours on it when they failed.
  18. Well, the bearings look the same as a set of stock ones, I dont' know if they are wiseco or not. I would look elsewhere for the failure but one bearing complety fell apart and the when the other one came out it fell into 3 pieces. No eveidence of detonation on the pistons. He has a noss head SRP reed cages and FMF Fattys. He has 330 jets in it and 30 pilots.
  19. So heres the story.. 8 months ago I rebuilt my top end, my neighbor who's bike was way overdue for a rebuild got jeleous and decided to do the same... Only difference is he bought his piston kit of ebay (wiseco) and the guy was offering "free wrist pin bearings" to sweeten the deal on the kit... Well, a week ago we were riding and his engine locks up. Well, those "free bearings" totally failed.
  20. Lets discuss this. I don't think the guys are trying to be smart asses, it's just that boost bottles are kind of a running joke. Lets talk about WHY this individuals statements are misguided.
  21. Did you try Heat? Not a propane torch, you can try it but it just won't get anything really hot enough. Go to Home Depot and buy one of their $45 Oxy Acet setups. I use the hell out of mine. I have a full stand Oxy Acetalye setup and I never end up using cause the little one is so much quicker to grab.
  22. BTW toybreaker.. I have been working my ass off (not really) getting the 250r up and running... Fame is painted and I have been powdercoating parts...spindles, A arms, swingarms, pretty much anything I can find to powdercoat and it's coming together.... Motor is not done yet, but the cases worked out... So you may be getting a decent bike.. new plastics, seat cover, bearings, ect.. on pinks... So since I'm running a case reed motor am I going to get a few hp on N20?
  23. Toybreaker knows his shit...
