Is it bad to mix maxim gear oil with belray?
ojcool replied to 06BaNsHeE's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
No, technically there is no reason you cannot mix oil..... But don't expect to mix conventional oil and synthetic and get the same protection... You won't. Or weights of oil.. But they will all mix. But if you mix a quart of 10/30 and a quart of 10/40 you will affect the viscosity. -
BANSHEE BREAKING FROM MID TO HIGH RANGE

I wish they would make a bike like that. I would like to see a twin cylinder 4 stroke sport quad on the market. Thats my biggest heartburn with YFZ450's they feel like your riding a suped up lawn tractor. You can feel the cylinder fire every time.. They just don't feel like a dirt bike to me. I have a Bruteforce 650sra and its a much smoother running engine due to the V twin. It acutally surprises me all the time with how fast it is. I raced my neighbors Predator 500. I pulled like 5 bikes on him off the line of course but even at 200' I still had a bike or two on him. Don't get me wrong, he would have won, but it surprised me how much that old Brute can get up an go.

Frame is finally with my painter. I have spent the last few days powdercoating parts. Should be complete in the next month or so.

Well it kind of snake oil. But it does work. I ran it on a turbo car for the intercooling effect. Really IMO it lets you tune the engine like your running a race fuel with pump gas. You have to run alot of timing to make power with it. And then of course your counting on the water injection to make the tune safe. So if anything goes wrong with your water injection your f'ed. It's not the magic powermaker that some people claim and it is completly useless on naturally aspiriated engines.

Yeah, you simply have to buy the special puller. I was wise enough to give up trying to pull it with rig up jobs. All your going to do is damage stuff without the special puller. You need an impact wrench to get the nut off.

Damn, those steaks look f'ing good in your signature.

Ever fool with NitroMethane? I saw a guy use it once on a mustang with twin novi 2000's on a big block. It made power, 100hp but I would never use it. I remember some guy on SRT forums wanted to put it in his water injection system. Don't know if he ever did it but if you can use it safely that is kind of a cool way to use it.

It's for N20 use. The bottle I have is older than what the link goes to. But it's the same stuff. Obviously it has some kind of secret ingredient they wont disclose. Nothing on the bottle saying whats in it either.. I wanted to see what it did on a dyno but I never got around to it. Don't have a nitrous car to try it on anymore. NX Link

This may sound a little out of left field but, check your reeds. Could be a sticking reed. The extra RPM gives it enough flow to overcome the stick and bam, it takes off. I would give the cages and reeds a good look and a nice soaking in brake clean (not gum cutter). Just a thought.

Yep, its the shear strength of the oil, not how much you run.

According to their website 50:1 is safe. They do claim to be full synthetic which means it IS supposed to be safe to run at these ratios. I run 80:1 Amsoil and I have had no problems with it. I pulled my head and checked my cylinder bores after about 30 hours on a fresh rebuild and they still showed the honeing marks. I don't feel comfortable with storing the bike with this lean of a mix. I think if your putting the bike up for winter you should put 24:1 in it and run it some to coat all the parts with a good amount of oil. I would run the fuel. If your really that worried about it just add some yamalube to the fuel you already mixed. Figure out how many ounces of yamalube to bring the mix to the desired 32:1 ratio and roll on.

The only liquid I can think of that would be worse than sand would be some kind of acid. Seriously doubt they had any hydorchoric acid on had so sand would be the best guess. As the other guys said you should know right away when you take off the clutch cover. I can't believe that they would take the time to screw the dipstick back in all nice and pretty if you caught them in the middle of it. Gas tank is a definate check as well. If there is sand splitting the cases would be the only way IMO you could be for sure that no damage happens. But if it was my bike and I found just a little sand behind the clutch cover and it looked like none made it through the holes into the trans I would probably clean it all out.. Then buy some cheap 10/30 oil (the big jugs) and rig up a way to pump it into the trans via the oil drain plug and let it run out the clutch to trans holes until I was satisfied that there was no sand left. The key here is back flushing it from the trans out. -
Pre ignition and detonation are the same thing.

Jeff at F.A.S.T. once told me that if you grind it as far as you possilby can it would be about 4 degrees of timing.

I have read that alot of guys use toluene to boost octane and they are adding GALLONS of the stuff so anything that is in a little bottle and claims to boost octane is using some kind of trick to do it at best.
-
I don't know what is in the NOS or 104 octane boosters you can buy, but I know they don't do shit. I do have a bottle of NX fuel additve that is supposed to work with your n20. they claim something like a 20% increase on the bottle. I bought a bottle to see what it would do on the dyno.. I never ended up using it though.

I currently (and in the past) use Torco accelerator additive. It seem to do what they claim.

I just saw the episode where Rich dumps a crotch rocket right in the middle of the show... Pretty funny, he did handle it pretty good though. Those guys are always riding bikes with no helmets on that show.. I'm surprised they let that air. Oh, but at the end he did have to mention, "I've been riding bikes since I was five blah blah" He did admit he was stupid.. You even hear the guy on film warn him that the bike is fast before he gets on, then he proceeds to dump it immediatly.
-
I have heard complaints that they don't work very good.. I have wondered about them myself. I could see them working for minimal fuel changes but since they would affect all the circuits of the carb I would think any real fine tuning would still have to be done the old fashioned way.. But Maybe someone else can comment who has used them. I'm interested to hear experiences.
-
Yeah, people scam alot with jugs. I would ask for a picture with micometer in the cylinder measuring what they claim.. My neighbor got ripped on a set of jugs for a banshee last year. One had so much sleeve damage that it could not even be resleeved and used.

Hahahahahahahha, Gave a speech at an SAE conference... That good, What did you tell them when there would be doughnuts and coffee?// Ahahahahahhahahhhahha I guess your a mechanical engineer... Damn, we are in the presence of greatness..

Oh, well I spoke at a "totally awesome car" conference... So there.
