  1. ok so i just talked to the mechanic doing the work on my shee. he said he wont even do the work if i use the hotrod kit. he has had nothing but bad luck with them. i also found out that i can get an oem cank for $305, and have it trued and welded for $100 so im leaning twards going that way on it. the hinson racing clutch is 900 for the complete clutch and the rebuild is only about 175 with labor. so i think im just going to spend the money and do it right and do it once.. now i need some more info and ideass though.. here is the current situattion. top end is being done as we speak. but the clutch and crank are about to die. i can get a few more rides out of both so im goinig to do them both in november. is there anything else you guys would recomend doing to my 04 shee that has beeen riden into hell. so that i dont have to end up rebuilding the entire motor again in the future?? i wanted to goto a stroker motor, but as of right now im going to be buying a ktm 525 so the shee is going to be more of a sand only bike.. any ideas that might help save some future costs????
  2. that is my favorite bike for sure. i know im gonna get helll for saying this, but i like the 250r way more than my shee.. here is what i recomend, pipe it jett it get a good airfilter, and maybe bore it a bit, i dont have alot of money in mine, but it is still fast as hell, and they are so fun to jump.
  3. i have already searched high and low here for the answers but didnt find what im looking for... seems that its time for a crank top end and a clutch.. i was told i can get a rebuilt crank for $500 i looked at a few places online and found the HOTRODS stroker crank and top end in a complete kit for about 750.. does anyone have this kit and how is the reliability of your shee with it?? i also need a clutch, the shop is telling me that the HINSON complete clutch is $800 ballpark.. i know hinson is one of the best of the best, but is there anything out there close to the same quality with a bit of a better price?? or can anyone recomend any other manufactures for any or all of these things that are both good quality and price??? im not trying to be cheap on this but at the same time my bank account and my fiancee wont let me drop almost $3000 into my shee right now.
  4. man or woman. it dont matter to me, my woman rides and she is better than 99% of the guys we ride with. she is on 2 wheels but all but 2 of my friends have trouble keeping up with her. she will hit any jump the guys hit and she will go any place the guys ride. like i said the only guys that we ride with that keep up with her both race baja and alot of the score races, but like someone else said b4 its not a question of are you man or a woman, its skill.. and mamy many women today have the skills and the confidence to go out and rie with the best of them....so dont be surprised if you try to put money on your girlfriend and alot of people take the bet. and also keep in mind that no matter where you are when they start doing drag races there is always going to be a few guys out there who have the money to be realy realy fast and will smoke 99%of the bikes out there.. you build it and someone has one that is even more built.
  5. well it looks like its time to replace the crank. on my 04 shee.. i was told by the mechanic doing the work (a very well known and liked shop never heard of anyone that was not happy with the work) that a rebuilt crank will run me abot $500.. and a stock is in the 1100 ball park. i looked on the net and on flee bay and have seen some complete kits top end and crank. in the $750 ballpark. but i need to know before i buy any of them if they are worth it or not. most of the stuff i have seen is mfg by hotrod. does anyone have any info on the quality of their stuff??? i dont want to have to do any of this again and end up paying twice for the same parts
  6. most shops that do good work and back up the work are very busy.. i dropped my banshee off at a very well known and very respected shop DUNCAN RACING. they are crazy busy and the shop was not even open yet the day i dropped my shee off. but they did open the door and welcome me in, they told me before i even unloaded my bike from my truck that it was going to be up to 2 months before i get it back. they were honest and did not yank my chain from the first second i walked in. they are also going to go above the call of duty and check out my entire motor as part of the work im having done, (top end and clutch) so yes any shop that is going to do good work and back it up with good customer service is going to be very busy.... there is another very well known shop in my area that told me they could have my other bike (suzuki rmz 250 2 wheeler) dont and ready to go in 2 weeks. all they were doing to that was valves and a top end. i did not get my bike back for 5 months and the $700 estimate turned into $1600 the day i went to pick the bike up..
  7. i didnt do an actual compression check yet, i did the pull the plug and kick it over with your finger on the hole in the middle of the dunes test...the stator was put in the night before i left for the dez, and worked awesome for the first 3 days out there..
  8. i would have to agree 100% SUSPENSION IS THE BIGGEST THING.. you can build a banshee that goes 500mph but if your suspension isnt set up good you can still only go 55.. front is a bit of a hit on the wallet. but the rear is only $2-300 to have it valved to your exact needs and weight. my second recomendation would be to play with your gearing a bit. leave the stock 14 tooth front. but if you are doing trails and mx you want to have a bit more pull out of the corners and slower stuff. try a 14/43 or a 14/44 set up. it takes a bit away on top but adds alot to the botttom. suspension wise check out the package being offered by ALBA. they have a set up with +2+1 arms and ELKA shocks as a kit for under $1000. you can upgrade to remote or piggyback rezzies for a couple hundred bucks too..
  9. i posted a request for this a long time ago and the advice i got seemed to be correct but now the problem is back. 04 shee. fmf fatty pipes, with the turbine core 2, jetted (not sure exact jett sizes but has ran perfect with the jetting since day 1) i just put a new 200watt stator in (ricky stator) and advanced timing to aprox + 3.5 digrees, the bike ran awesome for the first 3 days. on the 4th day on the last ride of the weekend it started getting a bit boggy, like a foul plug on one side, plugs were great, even put brand new plugs in, but for some reason it feels like its not getting enough fuel to the left side.so i cleaned both carbs and they both seem to be working just fine, compression is a bit low but not low enough to be a problem. the top end is stock. i have never had it re done yet.. the left side is being funny, sometimes it seems awesome other times its just not running right...it will idle and rev like brand new. but when i put it in gear it starts cutting out. like its starving for fuel on the one side, i put my hand behind the pipe and there was little to no exaust comming from the left pipe but the right was normal. i cant get it to get into the powerband and stay there, it just bogs out at about 1/4 throttle... does anyone have any clue what it might be? could it be possiable that one piston is dead and i just need to do the top end finally after almost 4 years of hard hard riding? i do have probibly close to 2000hrs on the thing. if not more..my girlfriend and i averagebetween 10 and 15 hrs a day on our bikes every trip(so thats 20-30hrs in a wekend alone) and we did close to 20 weekend trips just this desert season alone, plus day rides locally. not to mention the fact that i raced the piss out if it doing local desert races.and night rides in the desert during summer when it was close to 85-90 digrees at night? sorry for being so long here but i realy wanted to give you guys as much info as i could to get this figured out
  10. i say if you are both serious about the traid exchange as many photos of the bikes as you both can, maybe if the trust is an issue send eachother a disposiable camera take the photos and mail the camera back to develope yourself, that way there is no chance the photo's go into photo shop and get doctored. then find a meeting place half way between you and him set a date and time to meet and do the traide in person.
  11. ok im sure im going to get hell for saying this but im going to anyway.. i wouldnt get a banshee.. yes its a great quad and parts are not too expencive considering what things cost these days on any bike, they are fast and you can make them super stupid fast. but the truth of the matter is that reserch and development basically stopped on them years ago so as the new stuff hits the market like the 4 stroke 450's and raptors they are being improved on with every new modle year. the banshee has been the same with a few small changes since its debut in the late 80's. i love my banshee dont get me wrong, but if i could find a 450 that had the same comfort in the seating possition as the banshee i would traide any day. the only reason i got a banshee is the seating style on it. i dont like the motorcycle style seat set up on the 450's. i like the deeper more relaxed seat style.. anyway my advice would be to find a couple people with different quads like a banshee, a trx 450 yfz 450 and ride them and see what feels the best to you. its a lot of money to spend if you end up not liking what you get
  12. yes and no, it realy depends on a few factors, things like how clean he keeps the filter how much filter oil he uses, how much does he ride in a day things like that.. i used to have an 86 250r 3 wheeler i went out for a 7 day glamis trip and totaly forgot that i took the filter off to clean it the day before i left, so in the mad scramble of trying to get everything ready and get out the door on time i left the filter sitting in the garage. i ended up using a sock and duct tape as a filter for a week and it worked out good. no damage to the top end or carb.so yes there is potential there for major damage, but no it shouldnt hurt if you are careful
  13. He has an accent big deal.... and so he cant speak in front of a camera,,you try to give all the info you can off the top of your head like that...
