adjustable timing plate?
trickedcarbine replied to NineThreeShee's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Lots of folks have seen gains with timing on a dyno. If your bike can only take 2/3 degrees don't bother. -
Talk to a qualified builder. Explain how wild or mild you want it and they will advise you on the total package such as pipes, carbs, gaskets, timing, fuel, tranny work, etc.

I know those guys pretty well. My first banshee build was done through them when I was like 13-14. Way to much money and 16 months later I was able to track down where they sent my cylinders for sleeves. That was back when chuck was their mechanic. Hell, back when I worked in the transmission industry my boss(really good friends with owner) used to send me over there to drop off the big fluid crates for teagan. They are not qualified to work on banshees, they carry nothing for banshees and are rude as fuck. I get my over the counter shit at lakes. I don't let them touch my stuff any more either though. Same goes for tech care. I guess some of the folks at the local shops are ok, but do not ask them to help with the banshee. -

Psh.... Hit that bitch with a Scotch Brite and new rings. Good as new. Maybe ball hone the cylinders.

Interesting, if you didn't already swap to all that Mattoon stuff I'd say to try a sling shot for a day and see how you liked it. You guys pretty much set it and forget it on the clutches right? I noticed the difference my first ride on it. I started to notice lots of the two stroke dirt bike/motorcycle ice racers are adding weight to clutch set ups or flywheels to keep corner speed. The momentum has a totally different feel. I just think it definitely takes a pretty potent motor to take advantage of it.
-
^ very nice It should be noted that these slingshots are gonna have much different numbers for spring pressures and weights then the finger style.

Ditch the boost bottle, do a leak down. Those carbs might be about a 27.5 pilot, 2 clips up from the bottom on the needle, 290/300 main. What kinda intake set up?
-
Ahh shit, I totally didn't even think of the way you climb. I was thinking of the desert/dune guys who just drag race hills. With the way you jump and get in and out of the throttle it would be nice. It would probably help when you land off the throttle and lay back on it would still be wound up. A lot less chance of a bog.

adjustable timing plate?
trickedcarbine replied to NineThreeShee's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Actually gonna agree with that^. Timing produces the heat earlier. Therefore the pipe is " moving heat" faster. That is more engine/pipe set up related then most realize. I noticed a motor going from Rockets to Shearers took 3 more degrees of timing and was still happier up top and carried more RPM. -

Pressure wash, douse with harshest cleaner you have, brush, pressure wash. Now tear it down. -
adjustable timing plate?

Depends on the motor set up. +4 degrees is usually safe. But if you have a set up that has some extra compression and is sort of on the edge of premium fuel capabilities, you may wanna keep an eye on the plugs for a minute and monitor how the motor responds. Keep some better fuel around just in case. As for timing wearing the motor out faster...... Well I guess in theory but if the motor is given a happy medium it could go for several seasons and be fine. Or wick it up and maybe barely make one season. But if there is a failure due to increased timing, is it because the parts were junk and tired, or is it because someone didn't know how to tune and maintain? -
Lots of modern automatic transmissions have them. For the most part they are pretty reliable. Only time I saw failure in them is on transmissions that were already rebuilt and the kit had some cut rate Ching Chang Chong bullshit to replace the needle rollers. Problem with some of the ones for banshees is that they are the same cheap ones I've seen grenade. I have one in my banshee and it's nice and tight, going on 2 seasons now. It was from a transmission parts distributor though. I feel like there is a lot of cheap ones out there so make sure you know who you buy what from.

I would never lighten a flywheel, but adding weight to the flywheel...... Now there's a concept. Not good for drag or hill shooting, but for a trail guy or moto guy it could be beneficial. I noticed a major difference adding the rotational mass of my slingshot. My bike comes out of the turn quite a bit nicer with the added weight.

Fucking awesome stuff coming from Mattoon. I'm super happy with my mattoon parts.

Fucking coal hill folks are starting to come back, it's like trying to deal with the weird family in "the hills have eyes". -
adjustable timing plate?
trickedcarbine replied to NineThreeShee's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
UF, timing will net you some considerable throttle response as well as a little bit of torque down low, and depending on some set up its possible to get a slight gain top to bottom. Thing is, to much timing and the motor will fight itself on the top end. Detonation is also a common factor if someone is getting carried away with timing, so it's better for most folks to be pretty conservative when wicking the timing up. -
Anyone try the Thunder Banshee reed mod?
trickedcarbine replied to turbowrenchhead's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Gonna take a lot of motor to need 32.5's. The 30's will more then likely be what you need. -
