He is talking about the brass piece on each carb that sticks out about 1/16th of an inch, maybe not even on the inside of the carbs along the slide walls. They are there to keep the slide from spinning around in the carb so that the slanted part of the slide will stay facing the rear of the carb (towards the air filter). I'm pretty sure this is what he is talking about...

Yea 4.10's aren't the best for fuel mileage, lol. I'm seeing about 23 right now with 3.54's on the 47RE

bogs when your first start unless the choke is half way out
Dinner replied to cbarown's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Sounds to me like the pilot is off, or you air screw is off as well. If you are having to pull the choke out half way for it to run right on the bottom end, that points to running lean does it not? Pulling the choke out half way stops XX amount of air coming into the cylinders. Soo if pulling the choke out helps the bike run (which pulling the choke out will richen the mixture) then I would say you are running lean on the bottom...IMO -
Must have been some really bad fuel to take out the Injector Pump without harming the Lift Pump first. Most causes of death for Injector Pump on the VP trucks is lack of positive pressure to feed it and sometimes the electronics over heat. And dead pedal isn't caused just from the electronics...can be caused by dieing IP but the electronics may still be fine. I myself have replaced 2 lift pumps and one injector pump since we bought the truck(back in 99) so we are fairly lucky. The re manufactured VP44's are being rebuilt with the newer Bosch VP44 internals so they do last longer than the previous year VP's. Just read up on BlueChips website as well. The only thing they have done us upgraded the electrical system on the pump from what I am reading. Now I know I said earlier the most causes of VP Failure is lack of pressure and electronics. But the majority of problems lie within fuel pressure and lack of lubrication. Sure beefing up the electronics to handle the temps will help from overheating. But if you get guys that don't like to monitor fuel pressure on their VP trucks, and then wonder why they are getting dead pedal, even though they have the upgraded electronics, well they should read up some more. If you arn't running that constant pressure to the VP from the lift pump failing/dieing (with is more so the reason of VP Failure) then you will be starving the VP. Yes the VP alone can draw a 4PSI pressure on it's own, but this puts too much strain on the VP and will burn itself out. And the other reason for these pumps failing is a poor Injector Pump design to begin with, but what can you do. Just curious as to what horsepower and torque numbers you get when you change over to a "BlueChip" IP? Yea 10' is a lot to stretch her out! And hey, everyone has to start somewhere if they own a truck themselves. Takes a good while and $$ before you afford all these new trucks. Like hell look at the new International Lonestars: I thought it was a 3rd gen, just didn't know what year. At least you still have 5.9....fairly knowledgeable in the 5.9 than the 6.7

Friend of mine made one up for me,lol My quad was in his shop for the winter and I went to work on it one day and this was on it. Probably going to make a new one this year or keep this one and polish it up or paint it or something. Old Pic..

lol I'll try to answer your questions. You have a 3rd Gen Common Rail Cummins if I remember right, I'm not too up to date with the Common Rail Cummins, but I know the basics. I'm more involved with the VP44 Cummins, but yea, ask away

On my 87 Frame it is located where I "circled". You can see a little bit of white towards the bottom of my lime green square..that is part of the VIN Sticker. I painted over it and it just happened to chip there.

Here are a couple more pictures. This Kenworth was in for a 3 axle alignment, so I figured I would take some pics. You should see some of the sleepers in these trucks. They are called a "studio" style bunk and omg they are so nice. When you leave the driver seat to go into the bunk, you step down a few steps like you would in a sunk living room. Obviously there is the regular mini fridge, tv, dvd player, etc that the drivers have in there. But there is a fold out couch on the bottom, and then there is a bunk bed on top of the couch. They are sooo nice  And here is a truck we were installing a PTO and wetline in to run the crane. This is a mobile welding truck, had torches, 2 gas powered welders(also generators), the crane, vise on the rear, electrical plugs throughout the flatbed so he could plug in grinders and what not..pretty sweet set up!

Yea I like this type of work. I'll post up some more random pics once I get them uploaded  We aren't sure actually, he didn't tell us, we didn't ask  We were all wondering the same thing, so maybe we will ask him when he is in on monday to pick it up That it is. You get quite the work out lifting brake drums and leaf packs all day long :ermm:

How much time are you getting on a tank
Dinner replied to mlarkin_09's topic in General Banshee Discussion
I can get a good day out of my tank..that is just with basic mods, and also not riding every minute of the day. (hillclimbing a few runs, putting around, stopping to take a break, take pics, etc) Probably If I ran non stop I would see 3hours give or take.. 45 minutes sounds like you have a leak, there is no way in hell you are eating through 12 litres of fuel that fast... -
Hmm, what type of "custom paint job" are you talking about? And I would have to say... Raptor Plastics, Ugly ass bumpers that don't really flow with the quad, colours that don't flow (like my red shocks and silver/black bike, haha), and well that is about it really...I'm not too picky, lol.

Hey guys, As some of you know I am going through for Diesel Mechanic. So wouldn't you know it I work at a Heavy Truck Shop, lol. Should hopefully be signed on for my apprenticeship soon and go from there. If I complete this type of Apprenticeship I could be Licensed for Heavy truck and Coach, but anywho. Took some pics of kinda before and after a truck we got into the shop a few weeks ago. The gentleman wanted the the wheelbase changed from 160" to 244" (7 feet difference). First pic is of the truck after we began tear down and mounting new frame railing up. the axle that is there, was the front drive axle of the truck. The rear drive which would be behind that is obviously gone right now, lol. Here is a pic a bit later (kinda crummy pic) of where the front drive axle is going to be: And here are some finished pictures that I took yesterday(thursday). I just finished painting it all up, letting it dry, then I moved it over to our alignment area for a 3 axle alignment. So yea, all in all we moved the drive axles 7' back, on which we added 10' of frame for this rig. The truck was so short before, the driveshaft that ran from the tranny to the front drive axle was only about 2 feet long, and now it's well 6' and something long  And just for shits and giggles, here are some random work pics:

I was going to say, it is not the fault of the Plastics that your screws and bolts are working their way loose. Just shows that the bolts/screws you are running now are wore out, probably don't have much thread left on them. On all the bolts, hell even a lock washer should do the trick. I don't even run loctite or lock washers on all my bolts and screws for my plastics and they don't come loose. Just putting it out there, don't go bashing something (aka the plastics) when they have nothing to do with the vibration and loosening of the hardware...

Yea ok I'm not up to date on gas engines for the big 3, so all I can say is if you go Diesel..get Cummins. If you like the interior/body of the Fords, then put a Cummins into the Ford Chassis. With Winter Blend Fuel, simple little box and 5" straight I'm getting 23MPG highway. Put some Bosch 275 Injectors in there, gain 1-2mpg and then once summer comes back around I could see a little increase in MPG again. Either way I'm happy with 23MPG, and if I can get higher, than hell yea  And I would have to agree with Loco...Dodge

Hey Guys, so the last week every time I came onto the HQ nothing had changed (topics or posts), and it said I was the only one online. Today is the first day where it is working the way it should. SO yea just thought I would say hi,lol Did this happen to anyone else...or have you guys been on the HQ for the last few days like normal?

Amsoil Dominator, 40:1

Agreed
-
Yea it's pretty neat to hear all of our stories. And I agree with a statement that was said on here, said he will keep his shee until he can't ride anymore. I plan on keeping my ol' girl for as long as I can!!!
-
Welcome to the HQ  Glad to see you are already putting mods on your quad
-
Hmm sounds to me like some sort of Dune Port would be better for you. A drag port wouldn't have the low end that you would want I don't think.
-
IMO, It's going to be a bit hard to keep your shee looking stock while having all this power. Unless you gear it fairly tall, your front end will be coming off the ground in every gear with the stock swinger. And with that taller gearing, you wont pull as fast so you'll lose races. A drag port is made for well dragging. Is that ALL you do, or do you ride in other terrain as well?
-
Really? That is quite the back pressure technique  That sucks, at least it wasn't a major internal problem though

what works best for you to polish your exhaust
Dinner replied to yamaha_daniel's topic in Banshee Appearance
Oh right on, I didn't think I would get them looking as good as yours, but anything is better than what they look like now  Do you recommend a certain fine of sand paper? Like 2000 Wet or something? -

Maybe some of us aren't so lucky to have someone like himself in Canada   -

What type of machine do you use Kiel? You don't have to tell me what exactly it is if you don't want to give away your secrets. But Like I've thought about polishing my silencers (304 Pro Circuits), can it be done with fine sand paper, a buff ball and some Mothers or something along those lines?
