what does it take to make 150+ hp
dajogejr replied to jones20992's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Sleds need to make that kind of power, because their CV transmision and huge track suck up literally 50% of what is taken from the crankshaft. Now....are you talking Crankshaft HP or rear wheel HP? If you're talking crankshaft HP, then yes...a 535 cheetah will probably make 150 HP, give or take. But there is a calculated loss going through the clutch, transmission, chainwheels and rear tires/axle. So...apples to apples here. I'm 100% certain a 583 Rotax motor with minor work did not put out 150 plus HP through the transmission or to the track. When I quote or read HP numbers for the quads, I think and see them in real world, rear wheel numbers. -

A blog on a website is your current source of financial information? You're gonna have to do better than that. Let me dig up that youtube video of Elvis working at McDonalds in Kalamazoo....that news should be bible. I know about the housing market, sub prime rates, the ridiculous formula they used for making money that no one could understand and how that all crashed. You're not exactly reporting breaking news there G. Just an FYI...I did some research...a LOT of research. GM and Chyrsler did not get TARP funds until they filed for Bankruptcy. So your "first 25 billion from TARP" is wrong. -

That's pretty much my thoughts as well. I have to be honest...I've seen some Cheetahs flat out rip, but some are just turds for what they are. I've never seen them as consistently fast as they should be like the cubs are out of the box.... On all motor, no...a 535 cheetah isn't getting to 150 HP. Not even on the most generous dyno in the country. -

With a lot of porting, maybe.... Before I went with a TRex setup, I'd go billet twister or dm/dmx cylinder. -
I misread/misunderstood that...sorry... I missed 421! You can get 30cc domes but if the squish is too tight you're still gonna rattle plugs.

As much as I hate TO, his athletic talent is undeniable. He puts up numbers no matter where he goes. He happens to be a team wrecker and a big mouth POS, but...on the field between whistles he gets it done! At least he didn't change his name to Ocho uno....or what ever number he's wearing now....

Did I actually tell you to buy 21cc for pump gas? If so...I was unaware or not clear it was a 4 mil stroker.... You said small trails and putting around. To me...that's an absolute waste of a cub, any cub. Obviously pics and vids help...so maybe my definition of small trails and putting around differs from yours....or I'd hope so. Keep in mind my definition in Michigan of small trails are trails barely wide enough to squeeze your quad through between two trees, while managing 2-3 foot whoops. In that scenario...80 HP does no good... On your last statement in general...probably yes. Again, UCCR and timing dictate octane requirements...

We were hit on our soil, 9/11...by Taliban terrorists. Iraq never harbored and quite honestly did not like Bin Laden or the Al Queda. (spelling) So tell me what being hit on our soil has do to with our going into Iraq? Oil...that's what. As far as invading Pakistan where Bin Laden and his troops are known to have been, I'm fine with that. You're missing my point. We had no business in Iraq. I support our troops for defending our country after the attacks on us. There were no ties to Iraq and the 9/11 bombings. Anything saying otherwise is the government brainwashing you.... And by the way...you should have stayed awake for that economics class, we didn't give the auto makers 700 billion. We gave the banks that money. And once we bailed the banks out...they still froze credit so people couldn't buy cars...then the housing market took a shit. The US automakers did not get any of the TARP fund. That was a separate deal all together. There were those who said the banks SHOULD give the auto makers some of that money, it never panned out. Instead, AIG went on exorbitant vacations and retreats after getting their bailout.... I can sort of see giving GM money. They are a 100% public owned company. Bailing out Chrysler was pure BS. They are privately owned, and it's parent company Sirribus is swimming in profits and money. They should've ponied up some or all of the money...not John Q. Taxpayer. I agree with some of your points, but on others...you need your facts straight as well Greg. -

I think Bush did a great job protecting this country, unfortunately, he did a terrible job running it. Do I think Iraq had WMD? Yep... Why should we give a fuck or care in the world of they do? That was not our fight. The biggest problem with our government in general is they think we should be the worlds policeman. We are not going to make a difference overseas. They've been fighting religious wars for thousands of years...we are not going to make a difference, period. Let them dumb fucks bomb themselves out of existence....back to the stone age...who cares? You could go back and forth on who's fault it is...Clinton's, Bush's, etc. Bottom line is our kid's kid's futures are now mortgaged to the hilt based on how this country is spending money. I live in MI, near Detroit...and I still think they should've let GM and Chrysler sink or swim. Here's a fact. When the government took over the Mustang ranch, which sold booze and a piece of ass, they couldn't even do that right. What makes anyone think they can run a car company any better? Sorry...end of my rant... -
I'm curious as to why you asked all the questions then in a few post later answered them all... 24cc domes with a mid to high 40's squish will get you running on pump fuel. If you start stacking the base gaskets, you need to degree the motor in for proper port timing. More base gasket is one way, having a dome/head properly machined for the piston angle and deck height is another. Cranking compression...does not give you octane requirements. It's a triple ported motor with drag port timings, your cranking compression will be lower due to that alone. You have the tools and knowledge, measure your UCCR for your fuel requirements, don't rely on squish and cranking compression. I can also tell you that motor will run like shit with retarded timing. Setup properly, there's no reason you can't put 4-6 degrees of advance on there and run pump gas. Good luck getting a lot of bottom end out of a cub for trails but keeping the screaming top end. Like I said before, you can take a top fuel car to the grocery store, but there are better ways....

I almost mentioned Westbrook... girlfriend of mine has him on her fantasy FB team and loves him. Satistically, McNabb is a roller coaster, but he's coming off his best year... He's just not that impressive to me. then again, I'm a Patriots fan and a Brady Fan (U of M baby!!!)

10K and at least 600 cc's of naturally aspirated, You could build a 10 mil cub and spray 25 a hole...that will get you there. Up to you. -
He's good enough for him and his mom to get paid by Chunky Soup....now that's talent... Donovan....come home for soup... LOL. I think he's an average QB...nothing special.

I'd take the UP and their demeanor and openness to the ATV crowd over just about anywhere in the Lower P. The UP has NO business other than hunting and snomobile season, they get it. They are welcoming the ATV crowd with open arms. However, the Baldwin trails are nice, two loops if I recall. One was like 27 miles the other was like 42. Only been there once, but some of the best trail riding I've ever done.... Seems like the DNR just wants to make your life hell anywhere in the lower, in the UP...they don't care....

Need to know your UCCR, your squish and cranking compression. Cubs love fuel and timing, but if you're backing plugs out...gotta fix that problem first. You're leak down tested the motor, right?

k&n clamp ons stock carbs
dajogejr replied to BANSH-alena-jol-EE's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Yes..I run stockers bored out on my 10 mil for alky.... LOL. Gotcha, didn't know that was a stocker kinda thing. I'm always up for listening for new tricks...throw it my way whenever you're ready.... -
Yep...I'd go 0-16 again vs. take that piece of shit. I will make it a point to go to a Lions game if they play the Eagles this year (haven't looked at our schedule..) Detroit is ruthless. That will be worth going to the game to see them hound his ass...

How much for just the tubes Brandon...I'd be interesting in trying them if they help out. I have the GIGANTIC 14 inch filters, though...that be a problem? -

I've used Amsoil...garbage. The fact they give anyone who wants a "dealer" license and dealer pricing is the only reason it sells. there are studies done that show horsepower increases by using more oil all the way up to 16:1. Ask any builder that races for a living, none of them worth their salt will use Amsoil, it's all hype.
-
I used to use Benoil (Klotz) at 28:1, but I switched to Supertechniplate (which is also Klotz and has castor oil in it) at 28:1. I've never had a lubrication issue...and I put a LOT of passes on my bike. Redline is good alky oil too, but it's pricey and not very easy to get. I switched to supertechniplate for 2 reasons. 1. It stays mixed better in cold temps (we ride ice here in the winter) and 2. It is more readily available at most performance shops. As long as you are using a castor based oil...you're fine. Here's a tip no one else mentioned. Whatever oil you use for your alky, make sure you use it for your purge gas (which I mix at 20:1) If you use a non-methanol compatible oil in your purge gas, it will gum up your carbs. Been there, done that. I literally purge my bike until it dies from fouling out the plugs. I've got huge float bowls and it takes a few minutes to clean them out. Everyone has their favorite oil, just like anything else. I say use whatever castor based oil you can get your hands on easily and cheaply.... and do NOT mix any leaner than 32:1. As said, don't be afraid to slop the oil in there.

If you're gonna race MX...I would rethink the 14/38 gearing...you want power now, and I think that gearing is too tall for MX. I would get 30mm OKO or 28PWKs for your motor, still not a fan of single carbs. You can advance the timing on the plate and use the Dyna...but you need to be careful with fuel. I wouldn't run pump gas with the advance on both.

If you need the carb spray to start a cold motor
dajogejr replied to oh6banshee's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
I think you answered your own question. Even if a bike is jetted perfect, once the motor starts to get worn...it is hard to start cold. Once it warms up, parts expand and seal better...that's why it's easy to start warm. Do a cranking compression check with a QUALITY gauge (not a 10 dollar auto parts store cheapy) It is important that the threads on the gauge are as long as the spark plug threads, or you'll get a false reading. Depending on your altitude...at or near sea level...floating around the 100 PSI mark and it's time to freshen up the top end. -
Nice work, very clean install!!
