  1. My nickname for Predators is a Predaturd. Done up...they are a good trail bike. They are heavy, slow...period. A DS bone stock should smoke a predaturd. We rode with a guy that had one all done up, shocks, ignition, NOS, you name it. he got spanked by a 2005 450R Honda with a pipe, air filter and jetted...and the 'turd was on the spray.
  2. That's better. Keep in mind...4 strokes are smooth and torquey...they are much easier to get out of the hole. If it were me...I'd race him for fun but leave some in the bag in case you need to. If he flat out beats you...well, it is your money. If I was a betting man, and rider skill were pretty close, I'd take the DS...
  3. Smaller rear sprocket is for top end, not bottom end. Think about the rear of a 12 speed....the largest sprocket make pedaling easy, the larger are harder to peddle but better for speed. Opposite the front.
  4. There is no such thing as building a bike to the max...only running out of money. YFZs are no joke...but they are more expensive to build...period.
  5. If the guy on the DS can ride, you're going to lose. You've got a head, FMF pipes and a 1 into two carb. Because of your 18 inch rear tires...you MAY be able to pull on him out of the hole....maybe. But if he can ride at all...he's going to blow past you and not look back after you click a gear, maybe 50 feet into the race. Again, if you can ride. That DS probably has 20HP on you or so.
  6. Yep, I gained a solid tenth in 300 feet and 2-4 MPH. I agree...however, there are only a select handful of builders than can truly make a drag port in a stocker see it's potential. Get your hands on one of those...you'll be in good shape. However, you're going to pay for it. A really, really good drag port is triple exhaust, boost port intakes and runs a solid 500 bucks or so just for the port work, bore/hone if needed. You can get a new 4 mil cub cylinder for 600 bucks? Go for it. All day long.
  7. Think about water beading up on the paint of a freshly waxed car... I know...poor comparison, but...best I could come up with. If you have a smoking good set of running stock cylinders, drag ported, on a stock stroke...you'll notice a pretty decent improvement to a cleaned up 4 mil cub. If you have an average set of drag port stock cylinders on a stock stroke, the difference will be night and day. From this is fun...to holy shit my arms stretched almost as much as the smile on my face. I'll never forget my first ride on my 4 mil cub...coming from a dune/drag ported stock cylinder back ground. Night and day difference.... Then...when I went from my cleaned up 10 mil cub to my ported/case matched 10 mil...pretty good difference. Pulled much longer and harder on top. This was after two years and a ton of passes on the bike with just a clean up. Hundreds and hundreds of passes....
  8. You can triple the power output of stockers....you can't even fathom that on a set of cubs. It's not even the same sport, team, arena, etc. Do not polish anything on the intake side. Incoming fuel/air charge needs to atomize properly for a good burn/explosion. When you polish the intakes or transfers, the fuel can bead up...not every efficient or performance worthy. It may look cool...but when's the last time somebody told you that the inside of your motor sure does look nice? Polish the exhaust all you want.... Whomever ported them has the tools to polish them, they didn't come back polished for a reason.
  9. I disagree with your last statement. The cubs are great out of the box. On a stock cylinder, you could easily double and sometimes triple the HP output of them vs. stock. From what I've done, seen and heard...you can probably coax 5 to MAYBE 15% more out of a cub in an ideal setup. The cubs are that good bolt on. They should have the casting flaws cleaned up...I did my own on my 10. When you start out with a great product, improvements aren't as easy to come by.
  10. Another thing I can tell you is...if you're going to go with a builder...stay with them. Any builder will have their own set way of doing things. Rarely do two different builders approach a solution the same way...rather what has worked for them in the past. If you take 50% of one builder's advice and 50% of another, you're more than likely going to get mixed results.... When I had my 4 mil cub, Jeff helped me put together a stout little motor...but he also took the time to make sure I had what I needed. Like washers, seals, gaskets etc., the little things, OEM things to help the build go smoothly. That being said, I turned to Kevin Herr of Herr Juggs racing to port my current motor, 10 mil cub, and it is a stout runner as well. Pick a builder, run with them....HQ is lucky to have some pretty good guys helping us out in that department.
  11. With a drag port...absolutely they should work fine.
  12. If you found a 4 mil cub NEW and Plated for 600 bucks buy it right now. You'll need 573m6800 pistons and new domes cut (big bore domes, I'd say 20 cc to start) Best bang for the buck. A 4 or 10 mil cub is very, very hard to beat for the money.
  13. Too bad you're late to the party....you could've bought mine two years ago... You will have to mount the Dyna and Nology away from each other, if they're close to each other...they will cause interference. Now, the second question. Do you run resistor plugs or not? Dyna says you have to run resistor plugs with their CDI. Nology says you can't run resistor plugs with their hotwires...what to do?
  14. If you have the extra 100 bucks for the software and cable, as well as plan on spending 50 to 200 bucks dyno tune time, get the dyna. For that 500 dollar investment total (Dyna, cable/software and dyno time) you can find more power. We all run a plate Joe...and most of us run OEM coil ( I Like my nology setup)
  15. I would go with a reputable builder if you're going to go with a stock cylinder setup. Some builders "Drag porting" is nothing more than a dune port....just making bigger holes is not the answer. IMO...I would go with a 4 mil stock drag port. Because once you have a little more loot, you can drop on a 4 mil cub cylinder, which I'd take over either the stoke stroke cub OR 4 mil stock cylinder drag ported. Cubs take very little work to run good. They run bolted on. OEM cylinders need a lot of grinding. And as Jeff said...it's a whole package!
  16. I think these routers are rock solid. I've used a bunch of them with zero issues. You can't expect Cisco quality or features from a router that costs 50 to 70 bucks.
  17. Gotta move this folks, now on Ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...LCA:MOTORS:1123
  18. 5000 feet? Ok, disregard my comment about dome size...
  19. I agree 100%. When are you going to send me one to test out? If a fat guy on a 10 mil can't break it...you got a weiner!!! J/K...
  20. I don't know the elevation at Sand Mountain, but 17cc domes could be hurting you too. For a 300ft race, probably ok...but that's a LONG run...and max RPM could be hurting with too much cranking compression....
  21. Gotcha... Keep in mind, not challenging you Andy. I've got about 100 of them out there myself, rock solid performers...but in the end, it's a drag bike/aftermarket world. You can't go to Walmart or Best Buy and get an extended warranty for this stuff, I know you're with me on that. Best of luck on your new deal...
  22. Do you guarantee the tranny and shift forks for 90 days? What happens when it wears a shift fork in 6 months, or after one season?
  23. They announced yesterday it's being stopped Monday, instead of waiting till Labor Day. 80% of the rebate checks are being denied. It could be something very simple as a clerical error, etc. The Gov. will give them ample time after Monday to sort through the ones that got kicked back to re-submit them. The Gov. original estimates on selling new vehicles because of this program was 200,000. As of now, they've sold more than twice that and they estimate it to be around 750,000 when it all said and done. Just goes to show you, our Government can't run a business to save their skin....
  24. Chevy is the most expensive truck out there. Sticker vs. what you pay is always different... My 08 RAM Larmie stickerd at 41 or 42K. After the lease is up and when I purchase it I'll have paid about 28K for it. There are a ton of deals out there, but cash for clunkers is supposed to end Labor Day weekend. I also read that 80% of the rebates being submitted by the dealers for the 3500 to 4500 are being denied. If the dealers aren't following the letter of the deal...we're gonna be in the shitter again real quick....just watch.
