  1. Nah...I'm all good. I know the score...
  2. Understood... But that's like comparing a Top Fuel Dragster with a nextel cup car...just because they both have four wheels and a V8...
  3. They uh....did...a long time ago. Probably when you were still a little glint in your daddy's eye. Look up an RZ350 or RD400... Bahh...nevermind. Here. http://images.google.com/images?q=RD400&sourceid=navclient-ff&rlz=1B3GGGL_en___US232&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=WCeYStyONIK6Nayj7K4F&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=4&safe=active
  4. Not a very fair comparison...J... The banshee "based" motor was 825cc...whereas the 450 based motor is probably a few hundred cc's under that. I think the 4 stroke single record is a 3.8...but I'm not 100% sure on that either....
  5. Thrill vs. speed are two different things. Two strokes feel faster because of the nature of how they hit. Singles with powervalves aren't as "pipey" as a small piston twin... I don't like the way 4 strokes run...but they're fast. I promise they are not at their peak. They've only had serious development dollars thrown their way in the past decade or so. If two strokes are the end all/be all...why aren't top fuel cars 2 stroke? Why don't you see any NHRA or IRA cars with a two stroke. For the thousands and millions they spend on development...surely they can build a better two stroke? Why does everybody ride a 4 stroke in AMA competition. The big 5 (Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawaski and KTM) have millions of R&D at their disposal. They make closed course bikes. If the two stroke had the advantage...they'd still be running them. You can argue cc vs. cc all day...but then add in the weight factor and the tables level a little more. By no means am I saying two strokes are at their peak either....
  6. If you want a more usable powerband and more reliability...go with stock jugs ported. Anytime you increase the power from when it left the factory...reliability is going to suffer. That's not to say it will break every time you ride it. But more power exposes weaker links and design flaws not incorporated for the stock design. Your current equipment will respond well to a nice port job, no need for bigger pipes, bigger carbs, etc., minimal work as well. There is NO reason to buy a hot rods crank if you're going to keep stock cylinders and a stock stroke. Stock cranks are as tough or tougher than any aftermarket crank. They need to be properly trued and welded, and put a Maxload bearing on the PTO side for good measure. Even if your crank is smoked, you can find a good used factory crank, true and weld it with a good bearing and it'll still save you money over an aftermarket. Keep in mind, even the aftermarkets need true/welding as well.
  7. It's all good. Remember, this is Banshee HQ...so naturally many are very head strong about them. Sometimes overly so... No worries...
  8. Before you lean it out again and risk damage, remove the carbs and pipes and do a leak down test to make sure the multiple gaskets and seals you replaced are actually doing the job. Then...as said, use a kill switch or turn the idle so low it will stall out on you. Two strokes get all their top end and lower end lubrication from the gas. Starving the motor of that is a certain way to ruin it.
  9. You're right...the bike in my sig is actually a DS, I just come to the banshee forums to stir pots.
  10. While I'll admit...running a stocker down the track is not as much fun as being on dirt, what we do is a LOT different.
  11. Strap 100 plus HP between your legs, hit the traps well over 100 MPH and tell me all about it being so predictable and the lack of rider experience needed to handle it...
  12. What was the point of this topic again?
  13. If all you did was spin before you put the lockup on, and as said...if you can pull the clutch and it shifts, then leave it on. If you didn't sit and spin before the lockup...take the bolts and nuts off it...get better tires and regear the bike. As said, you don't "need" a lockup....but as long as you can shift, it's not hurting anything.
  14. Maybe my eyes aren't so hot, but other than being a little dirty, the reeds themselves don't look bad. I can't see chipped or burned petals (gap is too hard to see from those pics) I'd run 'em... Good price...good luck!!
  15. Luckily for me...we only bracket and index race here. Weight is not a factor. Heads up...I wouldn't even waste the money for entrance fees. I've loaned my bike out to so many buddies I think if I ever name the bike, it'll be Town Whore....everyone's had a ride...LOL. I love riding my bike, don't get me wrong. But I'm one of the bigger guys in our family that rides the track. Just for ET alone, I like to try and compare apples to apples... and I can't do that riding my bike against a lot of these guys. None of us are in this to make money...that's just a side benefit if and when it comes. I'm in it for the fun and camaraderie...
  16. I'd hope so...new reeds are 85 to 100 bucks...
  17. FMF pipes. V Force Reeds, airbox with the lid still on and a boost bottle. And you believe that 50 HP run is legit? That is a very, very, very optimistic dyno. And since it's a traveling one...it probably needs to be to make his money. I can promise you this. Take that same "claimed" 50HP banshee against a box stock 450 with a pipe, a true 42ish HP bike, and it'll get smoked. A stock banshee is 35ish on HP. You're not getting 15 more HP out of fmf pipes, a K&N filter, VForce reeds and a boost bottle. Not happening, not in the physical universe we occupy. Try this, try a bone stock, I mean bone stock banshee to this same dyno. I bet it reads 40 to 43 HP. Which is wrong....period.
  18. Undeniable... All I ride is 300 feet. I'm 250. I turn consistent 4.2s. Two of my buddies are very good riders. One is 200ish, 4.0s and the occasional 4.1, the other is 165ish...3.9s and a 4.0. I put guys on my bike 125 to 175 lbs...they easily turn 2-3 tenths faster than me....over and over. And that's without the bike even setup for them (gearing, tire pressure, less fuel) etc.
  19. As well as rider weight...in addition to bike weight. 35 to 50 lbs is a tenth or so on a 300 foot track. A banshee is 100lbs lighter...I actually looked it up. Claimed dry weight from the factory is 386 compared to 490 on the DS.
  20. The 04 and 05 450Rs were turds. Starting with 06 they got the read dirt bike motor, not a muted down dog like the first two years. My buddy had a strong running 04 with a 480 kit. A piped and jetted 06 would beat him most of the time in a straight line drag race at a make shift 500 foot track and at the dunes. If your brother put those mods on a newer bike, (newer Honda) it would be a TOTALLY different story...
  21. I completely understand quick and easy especially during riding season. I once put a hole in the cases of my LT250R and used some folded over copper and JB weld to make it through the riding weekend. Ended up lasting a lot longer...lol. Hey....your location says Troy, MI.... I work in the West side of Warren, just SE of Troy. Be nice to meet up face to face sometime for a beer, etc...just let me know. Yeah, I kinda figured you didn't get lucky with the welds....those are very, very nice looking! My bro in law's father owns a welding shop in Clawson, edge of Troy....
  22. Both have stock bikes to start out with and the price of the bike isn't included in that 10K... banshee..all day long. For 10K you could build a nice 14 to 18mm DM or Twister bike no YFZ could touch....(Unless you get into street bike motors, etc.) YFZ based motor vs. banshee based motor, no comparison.
  23. Everything you posted here is 100% BS...except for the fuck the 4 stroke line at the bottom. Show me a non-ported banshee with pipes, a 1-2 carb and 19cc domes that will make 49-50HP. IMPOSSIBLE. PERIOD. You should've stopped right there. A banshee is around 400 lbs wet...you do know that right? If you have a bolt on bike as well, no porting, your buddy on the YFZ is a squid...regardless of how well you think he can ride. If you're taking a bolt on banshee and racing bolt on 450s...and you're banshee is beating them that bad....tell your buddies to sell the 450s or learn how to ride. End of story.
  24. What's the point of a predator...? We're talking about a DS and a banshee... Do you think a 1 into 2 carb makes a better trail motor or drag motor? Trail motor. Period. Just answer me how many piped DS's you've personally rode, raced against, etc. I promise you with his mods he does not have the HP of a DS with a pipe. You're aware a 450 with just a pipe and air filter has more HP than his banshee, right? Add 200 plus ccs. Thank you...
  25. Whitbread...on one hand, I commend you on trying something I've really never seen before. On the other, that thing looks like an abortion that should've happened. I understand being on a budget. Believe me...I understand. However, you can get a whole new swingarm for a few hundred bucks, built right, proper offset, and it will clean that whole area up rather than go with the huge and heavy box section stock swingarm. Once you go roundhouse, the only thing you'll wonder is why you didn't sooner. AZ is right on, two circles...think of a camshaft. Where the axle/sprocket go through is the smaller circle...the carrier itself is the larger circle. With rotation, you can move the axle assembly/sprocket, etc., further back or forward to remove chain slack. Normally, as seen...two pinch bolts hold the carrier in place. Whitbread, I gotta admit, those are some nice looking welds around the carrier housing to the arm. You either got real lucky...or have some skills with a welder!!
