  1. Thanks for the offer, homie. I don't have any diameter or pitch gauges, but...I can get 'em. I'll let you know.. We've got several fasterner places within a few miles. I know I can probably find a place to order them online...but, to me, for something like this, it's easier to walk in and say here...gimme two of these... I'll get 'em measured up soon as I can...and send them to ya. I don't mind in the least paying for stuff...I just like paying for stuff that is right!!!
  2. Warm the bike up, turn each air screw in 1/2 to 1 turn...then wait 20 seconds for the setting to take effect. By the way, dumb question. Do you have new plugs in, and are they gapped right? I did a TORS removal kit for a friend, and it popped as backfired as soon as I put it all back together...great... Just had old/fouled plugs in. I gave him my used irridium plugs...no problems....
  3. I got my chassis done up with 'em so far, love 'em. Unfortuneately, they don't carry a stainless upper Jarm bolt though...so, I'm farming that one out. I've got some zinc coated bolts for now, until I have more time to find some stainless uppers. My boy said ARP makes 'em, just gotta get around to measuring them!!
  4. Brent...you gonna use the same guy I did out in Greenville?
  5. Is your crank welded? If not...get that done. Otherwise, you have a great base for an alky bike!! I'd say 35PWK carbs...you could get 39's...but, I think you'll be happier with the overall output of 35's on alky. If you do get Shearers...then you're gonna be a pretty much all top end motor. Then get 39's. I'd go with 19 or 20cc domes as well, alky likes a bit more compression!! Again....weld that crank!! Ha...that's funny JT...same time, same stuff...
  6. You guys ARE using thread lube/sealer on them, right?
  7. Gee...does that sound familiar... Good thing I have a backup/play bike...huh?
  8. Order up some NGK Plug caps....I think they're about 7 bucks a piece. I don't know what the specs are to Ohm it. Get a clymers manual for specs....
  9. 2 things. Most people run their alky from 20:1 to 28:1 premix ratio. And even if they left it at the common 32:1 mixture....they'd still be going through more oil due to you're be burning twice the amount of fuel (Alky) I agree on the purging. I wouldn't leave it in there for a long time, but...if you have a long weekend of riding...and ride it every day, then purge it at the end of the ride OR when you get home, I'd say you're gonna be fine... I won't be purging mine daily...no way! the carbs do need power jets in them for tuning it in.. the power jets are auxillary jets put on the filter side of the slide in the carb.. there are a few different types out there from some that use actual jets in them to adjustable ones that have a needle type screw in them.. and aggressive dune port would do fine on alcohol.. just keep an eye on your gas tank.. Yep yep!!!
  10. It will be stamped in small numbers, get your specs out.
  11. It's not that I don't want to answer the question...it's just that they've been answered a million times before. Some research and reading will go a long, long way. The good thing is you're asking the questions....good for you. And...yes, it gets real expensive real quick!!! Good luck...
  12. Alrighty then... Instead of rewriting the book, I'm gonna take a break. there is a search button on the upper right corner of your screen. Type in timing advance...and read away... If it were me, and you could easily get the money back for the reeds, I'd do it and save some more for porting....and that's mainly because I know what little a difference reeds make in comparison to good porting.
  13. Forgive me if I seem a little stern.... We already told you that you need to fix your jetting going from FMF pipes to CPI pipes...since you're probably lean. We told you the gearing was too steep for a stock OEM port motor to pull right. You asked about VForce reeds...if you should do them, then tell us you already bought them and are going to put them on anyways. Why bother asking???
  14. Porting ranges from 200 bucks to 1000 bucks. stock heads can be found on ebay for less than 50 bucks.
  15. Forget what they said about different compression ratio pistons... You really should take a compression reading right now to make sure you don't need race gas. NEVER take someone's word for what is done internally to a motor...check for yourself. Talk to some builders about porting, they can answer your questions...from mild to wild and everything inbetween. See who takes the time to talk to you...and see who won't call you back for weeks...if at all. You will feel a difference between a stock head and one milled .025. So...again, stop listening to the arm chair guys...they don't know squat.
  16. He's got a few posts on here about not being able to pull 6th gear all the way out, but he's also running a 16 tooth front sprocket on a stock port/stock carb bike. He's looking to be able to wind out 6th gear....I just don't see that happening with a 16 on front...unless he's on pavement. So...I don't want him to buy something and not get the desired results. Porting can take you to a WHOLE NEW level, and is worth every penny done by the right builder/tuner. Pull 16 up front and topping out 6th will have a whole new meaning if you port an extra 15 to 25 HP into your bike!!!
  17. I think for a couple hundred bucks, money could be spent better elsewhere...or, save some more money for when you need a top end and get it ported.... Then get some reeds. Also...have you done a compression check? You may or may not need race gas or a mix of pump/race fuel mix. I'd be checking compression...just to be 100% safe and know where you're at.
  18. Probably not...but, since it won't be a busy weekend, I doubt they'll be checking DBs. I gaurentee they check for flags (duh) and spark arrestors. Normally...on busy holiday weekends they'll check DBs...
  19. First things first. How and where do you ride your bike? If you want to trail ride....scratch alky. You'll be going through twice as much alky and oil as you do gas. You'll need to supply more alky to the motor, here are some common ways to do that... 1. Remove a float 2. Buy a dual feed pingel valve 3. Buy larger float bowls, holding more volume 4. Fuel pump setup (mechanical or electrical) You'll need to install powerjets on your carbs, too...think of it as an externally adjustable main jet...which dumps more alky into the motor as the RPMS raise. Alky responds to higher compression and more advanced timing as well. Also...you'll have to get used to a purge routine. In other words...once you're done riding for a weekend, you have to hook up a gas tank (external, auxillary, etc.) and run gas and premix oil through your lines, carbs and motor. Alky sitting in carbs and a motor can cause parts (gaskets and seals) and metal parts to rust internally. And...you will need bigger carbs. It will run on stockers...but, because of the amount of alky you need to flow, bigger carbs are a much better idea... Are you ok with all of that? If so...let's move on!
  20. I can call and reserve rooms anytime, JT...let me know when you plan on calling...or, would you like me to just reserve the room, and you can tell them give me the room next to Dave??? You sure you want a room next to mine...did you forget the human chainsaw that will be in my room? All i can say is if that ass is that loud again, get your video cameras out. I will stay up to 5 AM just to get some good footage of what I'm gonna do to him!!!
  21. That's the nice thing about a drag bike, Rod. Put the motor together, get the plumbing for the fuelpump in...add electrics...and you're done. Not much to it. Hopefully soon buddy...
  22. One day...I just got old...not sure what to say. I love to whoop it up and drink beers with the rest of them. But...around midnight, I turn into a pumpkin or something....cause I just get irritable, etc.... I do get wind up my arse once in a while and party late...but, I'm a up and wide awake at 6AM in the morning guy, I don't sleep much as is!!
  23. PM Jmkapala...he's looking to split ride/gas fees. He's from my area, Metro-Detroit...but, Lansing is less than half way from here to the dunes...so, could be worthwhile. I used to have a buddy with an extra set of paddles for you...haven't talked to him in a long time. I have a buddy that has some Geckos...if you get really, really desperate. They are shitty paddles, but...they are better than knobbies. Ebay has some hauler knockoffs, and they are DIRT CHEAP. They're reportedly a little heavier than haulers...but for 159 you can get front and rear tires (fronts are smoothies with the strip down the middle) plus shipping. A couple of threads on them already.... Should be a good time for sure. JT and his crew and me and my buddy are gonna stay at the lake resort hotel. No way I'm camping at the dunes...I'm too old to party and drink beer till 5 in the morning and shit...unless I blow up both my bikes. Then...it's on!!! LOL
  24. Solid bike...so sorry to see it go...
  25. I'm sure JT and I aren't the only ones you talked to while sitting in the tub, getting ready to pull your double shift...LOL....
