Who in Detroit area wants to help me since my Carbs
dajogejr replied to jonnyb's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Yes, it is part of the old TORS. Cut those, unplug the parking brake/clutch wires. Unplug the brain under the tank, disconnect each from the tops of the carbs. I'm down for helping you out next week if you want to bring it to my crib in St. Clair Shores... -

Like a cheap hooker on a Navy Ship at Sea.... LOL. What jetting are you currently running? 60 thou on the head? Did Dan cut the head, did you check squish and compression before firing it up? Or did he assemble it 100%?? Stock carbs?? -
Poor guy, been in the closet so long....he's become comfortable in his surroundings.. LOL.

I live in St. Clair Shores. Give me details of what your bike is doing or not doing, and ALL of your current setup, including all mods (I know it was recently A&S Ported)... I'm sure I can help you out. My good buddy lives in Canton, but....he really deals with alky drag bikes...I might be able to meet you at his house, if he has no objections... This week/weekend is kinda shot...but I have sometime next week available if you're willing to travel. -
I'd love to, but got plans for this weekend....with the wifey...

best pipe for drag race 4mill stock cylinder and...

100% without a doubt. If not....shoot whomever ported your cylinder....LOL. -
Check compression with a name brand quality gauge. Hard starting with a lot of kicks but running good after is a #1 tell tale sign of a worn motor, low compression. Craftsman makes a very nice kit for 59.99....

I think Shearer or RDZ would be the best choice...however, SPRD had their own choices for porting, gas, etc. You really can't take their engine and compare it to yours unless it was built to run the same.... It's a very interesting article, but always keep in mind. What works for them may not work for you... -
When you come out of the closet, I will admit I only look at the pictures... Lol

Gotcha... No offense, pointless for me to bring my bike out...however, I'd like to get my buddies 450 out there to have some fun!!
-
Looks like sand, is that true? Why not run 300 ft. and give extra shut down room... Damn...I would love to come out, I promised my girl we'd demo and redo her bathroom this weekend.... How often do you do this??

There are a lot of good drag pipes out there. Shearer, CPI, RDZ, Grand River and Power Pros. Sure, there are others too...but the first 4 are the most mainstream, and I have buddies around here that swear Power Pros make good numbers. So...that being said, find one of those for a good price, and get it....Shearers and RDZ have similar design and power characteristics. CPIs are like my buddy calls them "utility Pipes" ...they just make good power. Maybe not the most HP peak, but they come on a little sooner... Grand River and Power Pros are good pipes. I know Nate McCoy loves Jaws pipes, whom I believe makes snowmobile pipes as well as banshee drag pipes. However, I've never seen or heard them run.... -
BK....that is some nice stuff. Don't think I haven't been watching those pipe springs and seat latch...they look very nice...fo sho....

I think that's about right...maybe more if the porting is that radical...T5s could really be choking it up. Keep in mind, as the peak rpm and hp go up, as does the window it makes the power in. For example....it will probably make less HP than a T5 at 5000 RPM, but it will make more the higher RPMs you get into... 87 to current are the same cylinder, no worries on that!! -

If you wanted to come to MI...plenty here. http://detroit.craigslist.org/rvs/676782754.html (this guy has lowered the price from 2000 to 1700 in three days...go scoop it.) http://detroit.craigslist.org/mcy/673237010.html

I'll third that. He's local to us (about an hour plus drive) He can be hard to get a hold of at times, he does build some of the fastest shit out...period. If you have to wait, it is well worth it..... As with any builder, if they tell you 4-8 weeks, double it....

Keep the boost bottle off. In all reality, your builder (whomever ported your cylinder) should be able to: a. Either tell you what pipe will work best with their port work, or b. Port into the pipe of your choice.... Polishing the exhaust port itself won't make much difference, if any. since you're strictly drag racing, you want an Out of frame pipe, Shearer or CPI is a fine choice. Ask your builder. You said carb (but I think you meant Carbs...) as in plural. If you're drag racing, you want twin carbs. Your bike should rev higher than 8500 on stock port and stock pipes...something else isn't right. Run a windowed piston to help the intake charge.... -
My man, I've been there and done that over the last few years, 4 mil cub on gas to my current 10 mil cub on alky...it's always something...promise!

Unless you're asking which end do you put the spark plug and which end do you put the drain plug....you're not asking a dumb question. That's what we're here for. I put an extra steel plate in the middle of the pack. In other words, it goes steel, fiber, steel, fiber, etc. I the middle, like after the 3 or 4th steel, I go fiber, steel, steel, fiber, steel..... readjust the pancake bearing/clutch rod arm after you do that. You'll get better pressure and a better grab on the clutch. Extra steel is what a lot of guys use. I hear you on the bigger motor. I don't care if the bolt holes line up, nothing is bolt on...there's always a certain amount of adjustment, tweaking, etc., that has to be done.....
-
Add an additional steel in the middle somewhere....has always worked for me. Hell yes on stock ties on pavement it can spin that hard. With a 6 over arm, my 250 lb ass and holeshot XCRs on grass I blazed the tires with no lockup and a stock tranny.... I thought it would hook good on long grass with knobbies....I was very, very wrong.

how many guys ride dirt roads in the country?
dajogejr replied to 250Rho's topic in Riding and Events Forum
I'm telling you guys, St. Helens is ok, the trails by Peacock are pretty good (Big O and little O trail) but the UP trails are hard to beat fo sho... And unlike the lower, they welcome you with open arms in summer time. Figure they have hunting season and snowmobile season, that's it. They get it....that 4 wheel ATV guys can supplement their income by taking care of them. That's something lost on the DNR/Police/Local biz in the lower....too bad. Once I get a trail quad, we all need to plan a long UP weekend for trail riding...it's a blast!!! It'll be nice to put some gas in the tank and just go ride and have fun, good change of atmosphere for all of us!! -
Your springs decide how hard it hooks low speed/engine RPMs, the lockout dictates how hard it locks at higher RPMs. I've used two different type lockups on my 10 mil cub on an OLD clutch...I think you've either got a traction problem or an adjustment problem.
-
He's already got one from Dan @ A&S. I'm going to try the Raptor clutch...but I KNOW the FAST clutch holds up just fine. JT has one as well and it's taken his abuse just fine. I got a few buddies that run the tusk clutch, they're half the price. I'm sure they're fine. I have a mental block that won't allow me to buy them...even though I've seen fouledout's bike run, and run damn hard...I can't bring myself to buy a tusk.
-
Mine's on it's 4 season of abuse...I'm going to replace it one of these days....
-
yep. fzr fibers and barnett hd steels!!! gonna try raptor 660 clutches next!
