  1. tell tale sign is the motor is revving real quick, but it's not going faster... one way to test a slipping clutch is try taking off in 3 or 4th gear. If it slips out and lets you take off, it's probably worn.
  2. Keep in mind, ceramic, PC or jet hot coating will change how the pipe holds in heat, and could very well change how the bike runs and it's jetting requirements. So...take that into consideration.
  3. Figure a fresh top end kit, pistons, gaskets, etc. 180ish, give or take. Porting ranges...from 250 to 500 bucks or so. Some will include a fresh bore job and hone with their porting Again, IF it needs to be done. This is a great source of information for questions just like yours...start reading up...
  4. If they cylinders have to be bored to meet clearance tolerances, yes, you'll have to buy new pistons.
  5. OK...head and cylinders are two different things. The cylinders will need to be sent out to be ported. The head is used to do a few things, mainly change compression via how the domes inside are cut.
  6. If the alignment is WAY out of whack, the sprocket and/or hub wasn't properly tightened or was worn, that's the only way I see it. Otherwise, any drag axle and their hub will be fine....
  7. Ok... Welcome to the site. Baby steps...ok? First, pipe and jet the bike. Ride it....see if it's enough, see if you want more. Read and search around...see what kind of pipes people recommend for your style and locale. Pipe the bike first. Then worry about making it even faster. Do not waste your time and money just making the motor bigger...it's a gradual, combined process. Get the cylinders ported next. After that...stop. You'll probably need a better clutch, better tires, and a gearing change to get that power to the ground. 20000 HP won't do any good if you can't get it to the ground. Pipes, better air filter system, jet it...go from there.
  8. Ok...I know you're new....so...Stop. Get rid of the boost bottle, it's garbage. Second, figure out your budget. Does it have pipes, aftermarket air filters? Before you go out and make a motor 400ccs, get it ported. Making the engine bigger alone won't do much for you. Get the cylinders ported. It will be less money and more gain then simply trying to make it a bigger cc motor.
  9. Put a stroker crank in, the factory cylinders can only be bored out so far, and you bore them out to freshen up the motor to keep clearnaces in check, not to make more power.... A stroker crank will give you added cc's without wasting bores on the cylinders... Wait, are your cylinders ported yet?
  10. Get yours chromed, don't trade for someone else's possible junk. You can get used pipes chromed for 100 to 200 bucks all day long, call around. Prep is the key, the cleaner you bring them the pipes (outside surface) the kinder they'll be to your wallet.
  11. All those tools and skills and you can't make your own head, but can bash another machinist? Impressive...
  12. what's worse is someone bought that shit for 150 bucks.... Sleeve alone isn't going to fix that, welding will be required. Be cheaper to scrap them and get good used stockers....sheesh.
  13. I would almost bet my paycheck that you'll get more than 1HP per 1000 feet...based on what my friends that ride that high use for jetting.
  14. That is very impressive, ESPECIALLY the torque... What kinda times it run? Nice numbers!!!
  15. Do you think that has any thing to do with rules regarding air intake, fires, safety, etc? Not trying to be a smart ass, that's a legit question...
  16. All depends on who's dyno...I'm sure there's a builder that can get the dyno to read 160 HP out of that build...LOL. Realistically...130ish, give or take. A solid 10 mil cub is 120ish. Cheetahs have bigger bores and bigger intakes than that.... Probably could very easily vary from 125HP to 140 HP depending on who's dyno you take it to, 130ish is very reasonable I think.
  17. Um...what caused the skirt to break in the first place, that's the first question that needs to be asked. Did you check hot or cold? Cast pistons and forged heat up and expand differently. Did you bother to check ring end gap?
  18. What kind of motor...really?
  19. I believe they can get broken in shipping...LOL. I've never seen one break....of course, that's not to say it wouldn't happen...anything is possible. However, I've heard of PLENTY of people stripping the screws out....
  20. They remind me of the Cheetah Head with the risen center...
  21. Ha ha ha...LOL. One thing at a time...it's always a work in progress!
  22. Installed Picture. Here's what you have to remember....Chariot is a machinist. He makes the parts. He is NOT a builder...and he prefers you get the head from a vendor or builder that he supplies. They type of dome configuration you'll need will depend on your motor. Banshee pistons, blaster pistons, big bore, small bore, stroke of motor...etc. Here's the chrome one installed. The acorn nuts in the pictures Greg posted are no longer the ones he uses. I have the updated kind, they are larger (14 mm vs the old 13 mm) the chrome is nicer, and the threads are deeper.
  23. A cast timing plate will not break, however...due to the cheap China metal Ricky stator uses, if the person is not careful, they could strip the screws that hold down the pickup coil....but it's not going to break, there is no load on it. Cody, Chariot is on PS and the new ATV Dragracer site as well. You could also send him a note through Ebay if you wanted....
  24. Craig... You'll need the ability to spin the plate clockwise to advance the timing. Roughly 1mm equals one degree. Hope this helps buddy....
  25. Since you have the ability to knock his machine work, you must be a professional machinist. Why don't you just make your own head? Thought so... Dave's work is top notch...period. The couple of times I talked to him he was very nice, helpful and knowledgeable. I went with a different product for a couple of reasons. Looks, I wanted to try a one piece head, and the guy is local to me...and at a very attractive price. While you're certainly allowed your opinion, that opinion carries much more weight when it has truth behind it....and it's not just BS. If you talked to me that way WITHOUT FIRST CONTACTING ME TO RESOLVE IT, I would consider that a slap in the face. Good luck getting help after that. I've done a lot of business with people on a lot of forums, I treat each one with respect and honesty...qualities Dave Noss has shown time and time again....
