Go to the local fabric store and ask for crushed velvet.You don't need to get a seat cover made,just cut stretch and staple.The store didn't have the crushed velvet in the color I needed so i ended up putting regular velvet on my son's bike.I have even seen a couple of colors of velvet at super walmart.Probably run about $6.00 for a yard.
Thats how the filter was set up on my bike when i bought it and It worked fine until i switched to pods.If you buy a the pro design plate your just paying for the name and a piece of alum.that does the same thing.
You can get special pliers made for spreading rings or take your time and spread them by hand and work down one side at a time.If you do the hand thing be careful its easy to break a ring.
