  1. Like Brandon and Bansh-eman said, stock piston like is a fairly subjective thing that depends on alot of variables. If the engine is completely stock with regard to the pistons and bore, then a compression test may be a good indicator of the health of your pistons. What Brandon stated holds true for all types of pistons in almost all engines. The fact that the Banshee engine is almost square can allow you to get away with alot more piston, bore, and ring wear than is possible in many other engines. :geek:
  2. You may want to look into Rim Ease that can be purchased via the link below. http://www.pitposse.com/rimeatimolu.html :yelrotflmao: :yelrotflmao: :yelrotflmao:
  3. What is the courseness rating of the stones you are using on the hone? Do you know what type os stones you have (cemented carbide, aluminum oxide, etc.)? You should be fine with a drill to do the honing. In your case it might be harder to use a mill to do the work IMO.
  4. Are you talking about the breather nipple that is supposed to be below the water pump? If you bought one of the new die cast covers from Direct Drive it will not have that nipple because you don't need it. As for the bearing and seal install, you should find a socket wrench that is roughly the same o.d. as the bearing and seal and drive the two parts home by tapping on the socket while it is contacting the seal and then the bearing.
  5. I don't think the sanded looking part is normal. Did you notice an abnormal amount of metal shavings in the bottom on the case or cover? How much rotary play is there between the clutch basket and the gear behind it? Shifting gears with no oil is no big deal. The only reason I worry about noises, is because they tend to lead to some sort of failure that strands me out in the dunes some where. On a dyno I'll run a motor until it breaks, but any other time I think it's best to find what is causing the abnormal noise. In the worst case scenario, I will be living within driving distance bey the end of next week. You could either bring the bike down to Portland or if you're not in a rush to fix it, I would be happy to stop by and look at it when I make a trip up to visit my parents in Auburn.
  6. The air bubbles don't matter that much. Any thing that runs in an oil bath that is not in a vacuum will pull air into the oil. It more visible with some oils depending on the weight and chemistry. If you don't like it try a different oil. If you were a nerd you could try experimenting and adding your own surfactant to the oil you are using now, but I don't even think I am that big of nerd. :geek:
  7. The ratio from free to race sag is roughly 1/5 by your measurements, which works out to be 20%. Ask Gimmeeabeer what he thinks, I am afraid he knows more about this sprcific application than I do.
  8. Since the forest industry has slowed down around the Potlach area hasn't the count that it's in had an enemployment rate that was something fantastic like 28% over the last 5 years? It seems like I saw that on the news last year when I was visiting a friend in Spocompton (Spokane, WA).
  9. Small bore.
  10. Let us know what you find behind the clutch cover. make sure you check and move every thing you can with the cover off (rotate the water pump, shift gears, turn the engine over, actuate the clutch, etc.).
  11. Granted I have been at work entirely too long today, but none the less, I could see you making an attempt to legally marry a Banshee.

    Banshee Title

I would just assume not go through the hassle of registering my triple in it's custom drag frame as a custom quad. If anyone has a title left over from a parted out bike that they would like to sell, please let me know. This is a mostly legitimate deal. I am not trying to cover up a stolen vehicle or anything like that. I would be happy to write adn/or sign wahtever you like for a Bill of Sale, ;so that you are legally covered. I am just doing this as a shortcut to get a license and registration (why I stated that it's a mostly legitimate deal).
  13. What the hell are you going to do with another Banshee?
  14. I didn't mention the definition of DM because I think it's kind of gay. I am only making some of the transmission parts (main drive gears, shift forks, etc.) The stock transmission parts are being re-heat treated and the gears nitrocaburized at the moment. I gun drilled all of the transmission shafts and did a bit of "override" style work to the gears and shift drum before I sent the parts out to heat. All of the shaft bearings in the motor are going to be larger and a different style than OEM. At some point, I am going to have to sort out the chain size I am going to run. All the math to do that seems to get kind of fuzzy on the upper end of the chain market.
  15. There ya go, someone was able to give you an actual number.
  16. www.bikebandit.com If you don't know much about fasteners the OEM parts via the link above is the way to go.
  17. Japanese eBay? :ninja:
  18. The CWP is on my list of things to do after I get moved in and to the DMV. I don't have a problem sitting through a class. I am sure I will learn atleast one thing from it.
  19. I suppose the real question was Lindsey hot and was she a swinger?
  20. Alba has the worst customer service in the land.
  21. You're not going to like my opinion. It sounds like you have enough going on that the Banshee might be more of a pain than it's worth. Have your buddy fix it and then sell it. You can buy another one when you get out of college.
  22. In that part of the state he might not be a hillbilly. They have a trailer park or two there as well.
  23. A DM is the "new" Cheetah cylinder.
  24. My chassis is going to be a suspended hill shooter style chassis. By the time I try to race my new engine it will be tuned pretty well, but the sorting the chassis tune out may be a whole other story. I am going to certainly keep the weight down through out the entire bike. Currently the engine as designed, with it's pipes, weighs less than an OEM Banshee engine. My triple is some what of a custom deal. Most parts are Banshee'ish, but I am making most of the parts my self. Tthe cases, the cylinder block, the crank, rods, some of the transmission and drive components are all parts that I am making. My challenge at the momement is that I need to bore my sleeves and get my pistons ordered before I change jobs, hence why I have to finally sort out the displacement. The upside of going smaller with the engine is that I can push the rpm envelope up a bit. I think I am leaning towards going 1324cc or smaller at the moment. :geek: I personally do not like the snowmo based triples. A crankenstein motor is one thing, but the snowmo engine grafted into a Banshee frame looks kind of gay to me.
  25. The shock valving will make alot of difference in how well the spring action is controlled. If the shock is blown, the rear suspension will exhibit charateristics of that similair to a pogo stick. I don't think your uderstanding is wrong. Depending on what you want to do and when you need it done by, I will be moved to Portland by the middle of next week and I can look at your bike if you want. I don't have much experience with Banshee suspension in your weight class, but I am sure we can figure something out.
