  1. ... that a Scotsman invented the two-stroke? His name was Dugald Clerk. ... Between 1878 and 1881 he developed an engine which used a second cylinder and piston to force the fresh mixture into the working cylinder. It sounds a bit crude, but it worked! Rare.
  2. QUOTE: " ...So i just changed back to stock and it runs great. The plug is alittle black thats bout it." ... Don't understand that . Was it a fresh plug, or the one that was blackened from the 290 jet? I take it you're jetting because you've added the pipes. Did you tell them you were at 5000 ft when you ordered your jet kit? ... 5000 ft = less air and less of a requirement in jetting than at sea level. Try coming down on the mains. Jet correction from sea level to 5000ft at the same temperature is about 0.955 ... 290 jet x 0.955 = 277 rounded up to the next jet size gives you 280. Try a 280 and if it still doesn't pull, try a 270. You will overheat that engine unless you rejet. Rare.
  3. What's your (cold) compression? Rare.
  4. All you need are the forks. ... You don't need the rods unless yours are worn badly. The RZ rods are likely to have more mileage on them than your Banshee and you've probably lubricated your tranny better than the RZ was. Rare.
  5. Yeah, you're right. ... I noticed that aswell when I picked up an RZ bottom end. But I only used the forks because, for some reason the drum was longer. ... Possibly because it was really an RD350. I thought they were the same bike, just a different name in a different country, but not so. The crank swapped ok, but the cases were wider than the Banshee ones in the area of the trans. . I think it was on Bansheezone, (which is gone now), that there were good close-up pics of the differeces between the drums and forks. Nice mod. Rare.
  6. Came accross this statement today that was both interesting and funny: "Metals are elastic materials that can only withstand a certain number of stress cycles. Going beyond that number is not wise. Unfortunately, that number is determined by experience - the driver is the only person who knows what conditions he/she has subjected the engine to. Unlike a baby that will start crying when its diaper needs changing, the two stroke engine will start spewing parts to indicate its "feelings." It's better to change the "disposables" a little early to prevent them from getting s(p)oiled." ... Rare.
  7. You'd be safer with 21s unless you're spot on with your jetting. ... They'll give you some space to add a few more bolt-ons without risking detonation. Rare.
  8. Well you need to take them apart and find out whats in there. Nobody can help you without the info. ... And find out what height you are above sea level. Have a look at the top of the page in the 'Jetting and exhaust' forum. ... There's two 'pinned' items there that sredish put together that are full of useful information. You'll be in there often, so might as well learn now. Get a Clymer or Service Manual. Rare.
  9. Stock is around 24cc ... Standard compression on a 'stock' bore is around 135psi @ sea level. The 21cc dome will give you about 155psi and 20cc about 165-170psi. Rare.
  10. I don't think he was using his 'finger action' to work the back brakes. Rare.
  11. If you're lucky, yeah. ... You need to stop the flywheel turning by putting the bike in gear, holding on the brakes, or/ and some kind of holding tool. Then use your power bar on the 19mm bolt. It doesn't take much to break those wheels loose tho'. ... The impact gun will work in seconds if the above doesn't. Rare.
  12. Anyone got one? (With no/ minimal wear). Rare.
  13. I learned quickly how much fuel the (modded) Banshee uses to make that extra power, but it's worth every penny (cent ). Rare.
  14. 1/ There's no need to use penetrating oil unless you can't remove it with the correct procedures. ... And then, if you have to, don't "fill" the area that you're talking about. Just use common sense, you only need the oil to get between the flywheel and the shaft. 2/ The puller will screw in until it stops flush with the flywheel. Clean up the threads with a suitable cleaner, and work the puller backwards and forwards to get it all the way in. ... No need to torque it! 3/ The best way is to use an impact gun. I screw the bolt in by hand until it hits the end of the shaft and then screw it back out a few turns. Then I use the impact gun ... it gives it a bit more of a 'hit'. ... Pops off, job done! (Make sure you don't loose the woodruff key!) 4/ DON'T HIT ANYTHING WITH A HAMMER. When you replace the flywheel, torque it to 59 lb/ft. Rare.
  15. Another point worth noting is that stock Blaster pistons are 66mm, so you need to be .080" (2mm) over before you can use them. Rare.
  16. Fair point, but it depends what range he was in when he did the choke trick. EDIT: The symptoms showed rich at lower throttle, so pulling the choke in that range would only make matters worse. ... And unless it was pulled at WOT (dodgy maneuver) the effect on the mains wouldn't be noticed. Rare.
  17. Happy Birthday Guys! Wow! That's the most I've seen for one day. Rare.
  18. That's what you started at . ... Why haven't you tried going richer on the mains? Quote: "My bottom end has a sputter" ... What did he say about your pilots? Rare.
  19. That could well be your problem. ... Once your Clymer arrives, the procedure for adjustment is easy to follow. Rare.
  20. It's the summer Olympics. ... London's about 400 miles from snow , (I'm only 50 away ). Sport in the UK is going to be transformed, and as you said about Utah (been there ), the economy and tourism will get such a boost. Things are crazy up here in Scotland this week with the G8 summit meeting. ... Loads of protesters and so much violence . And tonight there's the Live8 concert in Edinburgh. All this stuff passes me by; I'm glad I live up in the hills . Rare.
  21. London wins the bid to host the 2012 Olympics . ... Just thought I would share . Moscow was 1st to get dropped, followed by New York, Madrid, and finally France. This is really great news for the UK! Rare.
  22. Not to make adjustments to the pin. ... Just a case of draining the coolant and trans fluid, then removing the side case. But to change the shift drum, the cases need to be split. Rare.
