  1. For the little time that it takes to do, just do it. ... For one thing, it'll rule out problems with your pistons/ rings/ bores. And for another, it'll give you a reference of compression that you can use in the future. Rare.
  2. My experience with an RD350 (not RZ) motor in the last few weeks: The crank and rods swap over, I just did it. I also used the shift forks as they have rollers instead of solid pins. ... I believed the RD to be the same as the RZ. It's the same bike, just a different name in different countries. RD in the UK (and Europe?)/ RZ in the States (and?). But with the following, I'm not so sure. --- (Compared to the Banshee engine) The casings were wider at the transmission area. ... Longer shift drum and longer rods for the shift forks which I wasn't expecting. The gears will swap over aswell, if you want to experiment with different transmission gearing at some point. ... The stator plate is the same, but not the stator or flywheel. The clutch and clutch basket is also the same, but not the pressure plate. Rare.
  3. Is this true? What's the reasoning behind these points? ... Just curious. Rare.
  4. Well done, wassup350. 4stroke smokin' ... I like! Nice write up. Rare.
  5. sorry to hear about this jen. hope you and ande get to the bottom of this really quick! im with CEJ, dont tell anyone that it was stolen just ask people if they know anyone that is selling another banshee. if they ask why you just tell them for spares.
  6. happy b/day man. hope you have a good one!
  7. Hey Guys, Shee's back in business again! Fired up on 3rd kick. ... It's quite a scary moment after such a major rebuild eh! Just switched off from her 1st 5 min session of idling. ... If it lasts through Sunday's MX race I'll be chuffed! The RZ crank was a bit out of spec and I didn't have it trued and welded, so I don't know how well Shee's going to go or how long Shee'll last. I just couldn't afford the extra expense. ... Fingers crossed. (False economy, I know, but needs must! ) Only had to take the cylinders out to .040 (from .010) and there's Wiseco Prolites in there now. Show me the dirt!!!!!!!! Rare. (and saved from extinction! )
  8. Well done! ... Hope you don't have to trade your 'Shee in for a pram. Rare.
  9. I remembered a post a while back where someone wanted to measure their dome volume. ... dlnoss mentioned using 'rubbing alcohol' as it had less surface tension. I get my head back tomorrow. ... It had already been skimmed and now it's had the domes cleaned up, so I'd like to check the new volume. I bought a 30cc syringe, but can't purchase 'rubbing alcohol' in the UK, so what can I use as a substitute? Rare.
  10. Yeah, it needs a bit more than just back and forth. ... Best to get the back wheels off the ground and spin the axle at the same time as going for the gears. Hopefully you've got it sorted now. Rare.
  11. Are you sure that you're not just butting the gear dogs up against each other in some of the gears. ... Without spinning the transmission, there's no way you can run through all the gears without butting dogs at some point. (Which will stop the shiftstar dead). Rare.
  12. Have you got those magic shrinking rods on that crank? ... You said to start with that the piston was coming out far enough for the top ring to land on the top of the barrel. Now it's only coming out by 2 thou. ??? Rare.
  13. Cheers, rebel... I just got an email back from Mp350, and that's actually how he got his done too. ... End Mill with a Carbide tip. Should make for a neater job, not that it really matters. Rare.
  14. Thanks, RBD. ... I found out today that it's also known as a "Spark Eroder", unless that's just a UK term. Rare.
  15. Is it also a longrod for this to happen? ... A 4mm stroker only raises the piston height by 2mm. Rare.
  16. Thanks "." ... That's more than a couple of bucks cheaper than it'll cost calling him from Scotland! You keep your bucks and put them towards some more letters in your name. ... J/P Rare.
  17. Shouldn't be too difficult. ... He's got a flat tyre and a missfire. Still got that helmet peak, Neil? Will you be at Duns? Rare.
  18. Thanks guys, I'll just leave them out when it all goes back together. Neil, ... Barrels, head, and new pistons should be back on Wed/ Thurs. So hopefully have her all back together for the w/e. Rare.
  19. I'm on a rebuild just now, and bought an RZ bottom end for bits and pieces. Mainly for the crank and clutch forks, but there's a few other parts worth keeping aswell. I was stripping down the RZ clutch and noticed these rubber rings that lay inside the clutch fibres. I didn't remember seeing these while stripping down my Banshee clutch (for the first time), so went to check. ... Nope, no cushion rings. Looked in the Clymer, and sure enough, they're supposed to be there. Anyone else removed them? And if so, why? ... I certainly haven't had any problems with my clutch, either in performance or noise. Rare.
  20. I took my 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears to two machine shops today to have the 3 out of 6 dogs cut out of each, but both shops said that their mills would not cut the hardened steel. I know it's possible, but how? ... On Mp350's website (Roostfest.com), he had the same problem and says he had to use a machine shop with an 'EDM'. So, what's an 'EDM'?, and what other ways are there of cutting out these dogs? Rare.
