  1. Hey thanks alot for the replies. Last time I was in trouble this site was my savior. I decided I will buy the clymers manual and do it myself. I checked with a local salvage yard and they wanted $250 for a used case so ellison $150 sounds great. I will get back to you that if you still have it. I first want to tear the thing apart to assess what I will need. It may take a long time. I'll be back in a couple of weeks when I have tore into it. Again thanks.
  2. Last night my chain snapped and wraped around the front sprocket crushing my crank case. There were chunks all over the place and the oil just poured out. I'm certain I will now have to buy a new bottom end. Should I worry about the internal mechanisms. The chain is wound up so tight and don't even know how I will ever get it off. How much do you think this will put me in the hole financially? Also i'm not great with engine repairs but is this something the average person can tackle or should I take it to a mechanic? I'm practically puking right now just thinking about it. (I try not to buy off of ebay is there anywhere else i should check for used engine parts as such). Thanks.
  3. Finally all done. What a feeling of accomplishment. Though it was a pain it was also fun at the same time. Unfortunatly I didn't put a grease fitting on there. I'm already done and I just read your post. About fixing the hub thread I read somewhere else in these forums to use a file. It worked great. I brought my axle to work today and bet an associate 20 bucks he couldn't get the nut to thread with a file (I knew he could though, lol). Again thanks alot everyone. Who needs a clymer's when you have this forum. You guys know all the tricks.
  4. Finally, It's all apart. Now to fix the thread for the hub nut and reassembly. Do you pack grease inside with the bearings? All that was in my carrier was water, rust and bearing parts.
  5. Great, I finally got the nuts off. I heated them up like you said and got a huge pipe wrench w/ a 4ft cheater. What a releif I thought I would never get them. Yup, now I was hammering the axle and buggered up the threads at the hub a little. I realized what was happening after a few hits so their not too bad. If I ever get the axle out I'll bring it to a local mechanic and see if he will re-die it for a couple of bucks. Time to head back outside and keep sluggin away. Hopefully the neighbors won't freak, but I can't stop now i've come so far. thanks again.
  6. Cool thanks. I will try the hammer technique this weekend. The other posts I read in here were saying to use a huge cheater bar. I have to get a new wrench. It's pretty sad when you have to post a question for the 1st step in this project i'm facing. I hope everything goes smooth once I get past this stage. If not i'll be back. Thanks
  7. I have a 99 banshee and I've been trying to loosen the two big nuts on the axle against the sprocket. I've been searching the forums for an hour now and I can't find out which way to spin them. I've been pulling upward standing at the back of the machine. My pipe wrench just snapped in half and now I'm wondering if i'm going the right way. My bearings are destroyed and I need to get in there. Summer's here and I'm stuck working on my bike. Please help. You guys helped my alot on my last post when I was changing my clutch and shifting problems. Thanks.
  8. I'm back at it again fixing my banshee up for the new season. I have to replace my rear bearings. I cannot loosen the to big axle nuts. Could someone please tell me which way I have to spin them to loosen them. I tried both ways and no avail. I've been trying to go counterclockwise. Is that correct?
  9. SHEE is back in action. I don't know exactly what it was, but it's running great. That new clutch is awesome. Thank God i didn't have to break that case. It does seem a little dumpy going into 1st gear and very hard to find neutral now when it's running. I know ive seen some posts in my journeys through this web site in regard to those symptoms. Time to start reading up some more All-in-all Shee is running great and i'm thrilled. Thank you all.
  10. Thank you sheefreak. Rare I was rocking it back and forth while shifting through the gears b4, and they wouldn't go. Now they are. If you are right i will feel pretty stupid. I think I may have fixed the problem. I hope. While I was trying to spin that nut free inside the clutch basket the engine was spinning inside. Now I can successfully shift through all the gears. I'm going to get some deisel now to flush engine out. If there was something inside there jambing it up, i want to make sure it is out. I also have to go to the hardware store because i stripped a couple of the screws trying to get the clutch cover off. So now I have to put the thing back together again. I hope it works. I'll let you all know. Again thank you for the help.
  11. Ok, this is weird but I don't know what i just did. I was messing around with it and now the tranny will only shift between 1st neutral and second. I can't get it into third. It's getting hung up inbetween second and third. I can't force the star to spin all the way into third. It seems I have to take off the clutch basket to further inspect it. I can't get that big nut inside the clutch to break free. Is there any tricks to break it loose? Is it a reverse thread by any chance? Boonman: I can't seem to find the shift rest position (is that essentric screw in the center of the star?). Do I have to get the basket off to find it? 1800bigk: Do you think it could still be bent shift forks even though it now for some reason will shift into different gears. Also I pulled the stator side cover off and found water in there (alot). there was also alot of rust. Man this sucks it sure seems the times you want to ride the most you can't.
  12. C&B: I tried rocking it back and forth, but nothing happened. The tranny flush doesn't sound like a bad idea at all. There was alot of debris from my old clutch in there. Chuncks of the gasket came out the the oil. How do you flush it? Just pour gas in through the clutch side and shake the machine around i'm guessing. Also the shift pin you spoke of, i'm going outside to see if I can find it. (i have my fingers crossed). SouperSport: Everything seems to be clean on the clutch side I will check the shift shaft though. Hopefully that is the problem. 1800bigk: Yea, i'm going to order one of those clymer manuals everyone speaks of in here before i begin the project. Also it will be a good learning experience for me. Boonman: I'm going outside right now to mess with that essentric screw you talked about for the shifter resting position.
  13. I have read just about every post in these forums concerning my problem. I have noticed you members provide very intelligent responses. My problem is my banshee wont shift into 2nd neutral, 1st or 5th. I've already removed the old clutch and replaced it with a new one. The old clutch was a mess and left gasket chunks all over the place. I thought a new one would fix the problem. It didn't I noticed alot of you guys were refering to the shift star and all the other controlling mechanisms. i checked them and they all seem to be fine. When I shift down eventually the shift star stops inbetween 2nd and 3rd. I mean that little wheel underneath the star stops at the tip of the star point in between 2nd & 3rd. The same goes for inbetween 4th and 5th. I tryed to manually spin the star with a screw driver and it wont budge to go the rest of the way into 2nd. I really don't want to split the case because i think i will only cause more problems for myself. Plus i'm broke and can't afford $1000 for someone to do it for me. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what may be wrong?
