It used to be $100. But I don't do this anymore. It was taking way too much of my time. I am shortening Truth's swingarm, but that is because I committed to doing it a while back.

I have a fancy piece of paper that says Agricultural Engineer on it. But I spend my days answering technical questions regard the installation of large diesel powered generator sets.

Why More Power At 3/4 Throttle Than Full Throttle?
mrmatt replied to mrmatt's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
Update: I am running stock reeds and cages (not ported). I installed 360 main jets and the plugs are still tan after a wot 6th gear run. The power is pretty much the same at 3/4 throttle and full throttle. So I figure that the power was lower at full throttle when I had the 320 jets in because it was lean. I'm heading back to the Yamaha shop today to pick up a set of 380s. I'll just keep going up until I either get a brown plug or it doesn't run clean on top. I am baffled as to why I need to run such a large main jet. I am pretty sure that I don't have any air leaks because both plugs are the same color and it runs great. I must have taken more out of the intake side of the jugs than I thought. Thanks -
Did you completely remove the tors or just the carb tops? Make sure that you unplug the three wire connector at control box. The box is mounted to the frame under the front of the gas tank on the left side. Are you sure you have removed enough material for the idle screws? You should look down the carb bore and see the slide move up as you turn the screw in. Did you try different pilot jets or just different main jets?

Check the connections under the rear plastic. When they get wet they can cause the Banshee to pop, misfire, hesitate, and just plain run like crap.

We were racing in a field in the back of the park. You get there by heading South from the parking lot on the paved road, then turn left at the Y. Then follow that road all of the way to the back of the park. Past where the steel tubes go under the road. After you pass the tubes, the field is up on the right. The field was off limits and covered with grass up until about a year ago when people started racing in it. Once the racing started, the grass didn't last but a couple of weeks. Now it is totally bare. I have heard of another dragstrip there, that must be what you are talking about, but I don't know where it is (was).

Why More Power At 3/4 Throttle Than Full Throttle?
mrmatt replied to mrmatt's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
I messed with it a little more today. I left the main alone and just worked with the needle position, pilots, and air screws. I plan to revisit these when I get the main figured out, but I wanted to get a better 'feel' for how it likes to be jetted. With the 27.5 pilot and the needle clip in the middle position, I couldn't get a smooth transition from 0 to 1/4 throttle it was a little too rich and gurgled. But it runs clean through the same throttle range with the stock pilot. I tried the needle clip in the next two richer positions, but it would always gurgle at 1/8 to 1/4 throttle. I could get it a little better when the air screws were screwed out 3 turns, but I had to go back to the middle clip position on the needle for the best throttle response. I didn't do a full 6th gear wide open run, I think my neighbors are getting tired of me running up and down the road as it is. But the plugs were tan when I pulled them. I am going to have to wait a couple of days for the wot 6th gear runs. I am wondering if my low power at wot is due to my throttle opening up too far. I had to adjust the throttle stop to keep my slides from coming up and getting stuck on the rubber gasket that seals the carb tops. Maybe the slides are still going up too far and actually causing turbulence in the carbs. -
6:30 - 3 (or 4 or 5 or whenever I get done) M-F. If the garage door is up when you go by, you should definately stop. If the door is closed, then I am probably not home or I'm busy with the wife and don't want any vistors .

Why More Power At 3/4 Throttle Than Full Throttle?
mrmatt replied to mrmatt's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
I know for sure that this wasn't the case. I was carefull about this and would cruise at a speed that was in the middle of the powerband, throttle up to 3/4 then go to wot then back to 3/4 throttle. The power would fall off at wot, then come back at 3/4 throttle. I did this several times because I extremely surprised that it acted that way. I am going to pick up some new plugs tomorrow and start over from square one with the stock pilot jet and lower clip position and a bunch of different mains. One good thing about the PT pipes is how easy it is to get to the carburetors. Thanks to all for the help. -
Yes, definately a good time. Gumby where were you at? Man, I wish I would have climbed that hill. I'll definately get up it in the next few weeks. Seeing you guys riding around w/out fenders was the final push that I needed to cut mine off. I got out the cutting wheel as soon as I finished washing it. Next time I'll bring the salt shaker

Why More Power At 3/4 Throttle Than Full Throttle?
mrmatt replied to mrmatt's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
I put the 340s back in and now it has the same amount of power at 3/4 throttle and full throttle. So I'm not as concerned. I'll just pay attention to my plugs and water temperature when riding today. When I get a chance, I'll put the stock pilots back in. I have heard a few other people tell me that the PTs like the smaller pilots. -
I'll be in the lower parking lot near spoin. Here are pictures of my truck and banshee.

I forgot, stock air box w/out lid.

I am definately going to be there. I hate getting there at 9:00 because of the stupid check-in process that they have. But I'll deal with the traffic jam. That sucks that you have to go to work later spoin, I guess putting a few down at the Cactus is ruled out. I also know that mudtrackerinc will definately be there along with a few of friends. We grew up less than a mile from each other and eventhough we live 100 miles apart now, we ride together whenever we can. If I can't get my carbs straightened out, I may be riding my wife's Warrior. First, my right slide was sticking wide open, now I think I have jetting problems. But regardless, I'll be there!! I've been waiting to ride all week.

Spoin covered this before, but I think the forecast has changed since then. The way that they keep changing the forecast, it is still too early to tell what the weekend is going to be like. Here is a link to the NWS forecast for Attica: http://www.crh.noaa.gov/data/forecasts/INZ...045&city=Attica There is a separate office for the campground. It is my understanding that the campground is a completely separate business, with different owners.

I have never run them myself, but I have heard that the Mickeys are junk, they don't do well in mud and they commonly have belts break. For hard core off-road I suggest Super Swamper Boggers or regular TSL, but either of these would require a major stereo upgrade to overcome the tire noise that these will create. So these probably won't be best for your truck that is used for multipurposes. I suggest the Goodyear MTRs. They are relatively quiet on the highway (for a mud tire), have extremely tough sidewalls, and do almost as well in the mud as TSLs.

Good new. We got around 1/2" of rain today, which should keep the dust down for this weekend.

The advanced timing will add hp throughout the entire rpm range. Someone on here dyno tested this and showed a consistant 2 hp increase. Timing advance will not increase your static compression, but it will increase your chance for detonation. Detonation is uncontrolled burn in the combustion chamber. This happens when the fuel/gas mixture becomes so hot that it ignites on its own, not as a result of the spark plug firing. Hot spots in the combustion chamber, such as carbon build-up or sharp edges on the piston crown can act as ignitors for the fuel/air mixture. Advancing timing increases your chances for detonation because it can cause higher temperatures and pressures within the combustion chamber, since the spark happens while the cylinder is still on its compression stroke. As the cylinder fires, all of the fuel/air does not burn at once, a flame front is initiated at the spark plug and moves through the combustion chamber. As it does, the pressure and temperature of the unburned air/fuel increases. Since ignition happens before the piston reaches the top of its stroke, the fuel/air mixture is also still being compressed by the piston. If the timing is advanced too much, the pressure and temperature of the unburned air/fuel can increase to levels that will cause it to self ignite in an explosion rather than being burned by the moving flame front. This explosion is detonation and if allowed to continue will result in the need for an engine rebuild.

I don't remember seeing it, but I have emptied a few beer bottles since then. Are the fenders really silver, or is there a reflection on them? The badlands was extremely dusty this past Saturday. The forecast calls for rain this week. I hope they are right, so it won't be so dusty on the 24th.

I was doing this for $100 like frocashmoney said. But it was taking too much of my time, so I don't anymore. My mud truck has been sitting in my driveway with slightly built 460 for almost four months because I haven't had the time to finish the installation. It is killing me to not be able to take it out and throw some serious roost. There are a few people that have contacted me directly about shortening their swingarms in the past few months that I will still do the work for, but I don't want to commit to any more right now. I wrote up a detailed 'how-to' in the Tips and Tricks section. Maybe you can take it to a friend that can weld. Or maybe someone else on here will jump in and offer to do it.

The 'Neon Cactus' is a very large bar in West Lafayette, that used to cater to the the country/western crowd at Purdue. But now that C/W isn't as popular they play normal bar/dance club music. I've never made it over to the piano bar, so you'll have to explain that Spoin. Unless something major comes up, I'll at least be there for the riding.

I've never bought anything from Stan, but I was fortunate enough to meet him and see his quad at Roostfest. I was impressed by both. All of the Aluminum on his bike looked outstanding, hell his whole quad looked great, but I am kind of partial to orange . Anyway he is a great guy and someone that I would do business with if I ever decided to add billet to my quad. Matt

I wondered where you were at. There were quite a few Banshee's running around on Sunday, but none that looked like the one in your Avatar. I try to keep the 24th open so I can make it out there.
