Since the webbing is nylon, I was afraid the dye wouldn't work. It sounds like I am better off buying new nets. Thanks.

I bought DG nerf bars and they only come with red or blue netting. I am going for an all black and silver look, so the red netting really stands out. I know that they sell black netting, but I am a cheap bastard. I was wondering if I could dye them black with fabric dye. Has anyone tried this?

I have a few pictures that I took on a disposable camera. I'll get a disk when I get them devoloped so that I can post a few. The most interesting pics will be of everyone drag racing and Banchetta fitting the Banshee silencer to his friend's 250EX.

update: less than 50psi in each cylinder
mrmatt replied to lastlegwarrior's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Too much oil on the piston and cylinder walls when you put it together. It turns to burnt carb and builds up on the rings. I don't think that this is common, but I have heard of it happening. Are you sure that you have the right pistons? Maybe you were sent pistons for a long rod motor with a raised wrist pin. -
It was awesome. The dunes were much better than I expected. I was afraid that I was going to be disappointed after riding in Dumont this spring, but I wasn't. I'll definately go back to Silver Lake in the near future. As always, meeting new guys from the HQ was great. There wasn't a big of a turnout of HQ'ers, but those that came were great to ride with. We spent a lot of time working on the quads, like usual. But I always learn a lot from the HQ guys while we are doing this. The DNR is definately strick, and the spark arrestor deal is BS. I'm sure a couple of other people will chime in about the money they spent on those. But overall, it was a great trip.

Here is how I used to do it: http://www.bansheehq.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=18347 Here is a link to the picture album, since they probably won't show up in the thread. http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4288460583 There are some other posts out there that show how to convert to a round house design, but I didn't find those.

I plan on getting into the Mears/Silver Lake area around 5:00 on Friday. I hope to visit one of the ATV stores there to pick up a flag and check the place out. Then I'll head over to Val-du Lakes campground to meet up with everyone. I'll be by myself in a Red 2002 Chevy extended cab 2500 with a black and white Banshee in the back. Should I bring some firewood or does someone else already have that covered?

I think that you are wasting your time with the pilot jet and needle until you get the main jet figured out. Your problem sounds exactly like mine. I know that our engine set ups are very different, but the symptoms that you are having are the same as I had. I think it would be benefitial if we could talk. Send me a PM with your phone number and I'll give you a call. I tried at least a dozen different things to fix mine. We can talk about what I tried and if any of them may work for you. Matt

Here is a map to Val-Du Lakes campground. The red star indicates the campground location. I have never been there myself, so I am assuming that mapquest and the address that I found on the 'net are correct. If you have been there before and this isn't the correct location, then let us know. http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?count...arch=++Search++

All you need is a couple of vise-grips. A small one for the shifter and a large one for the kicker. So you'll be there and riding, right?

You're still trying to get the jetting right? That sucks. I hadn't seen a post from you in a while so I assumed you got it figured out. Can you see a color change on the ground strap? If so, compare it to the pictures in the Jetting FAQ. I found out that BR8ES were too cold for my Banshee. So I switched to BR7ES. Quite a few people told me not to do this and that it would cause detonation. But the color change on the ground strap is in the middle of the bend with the 7's. I don't know why my motor needs the hotter plugs, but once I figured this out, it was much easier to read the plugs for carburetor adjustment. I will caution you, as many people cautioned me, you should make sure that your engine needs the 7s before you really run it hard with them. After normal riding, my plugs looked exactly like yours before I switched to 7s and got the jetting worked out. I suggust putting the needle in the middle clip and leaving it alone until you get the pilot and main jets right. I spent countless hours adjusting my needle and air screws to eliminate a 1/4 throttle hesitation, when the real problem was that my pilot jets were too small. I found out that there are too many variables to work with and I kept masking the real problem. I refused to change the pilot jet, since most other people that use PT mids run a stock pilot. Once I went up a couple if sizes on the pilot and put the needle and air screws at there stock setting, the 1/4 throttle hesitation went away. So maybe you need to do the same, go with a larger pilot. The best way that I found to adjust the pilot and air screw is to cruise down the road or in an open area in 4th gear. To maintain a constant speed, I only need to apply a little bit of throttle. If the pilot/air screw was rich, then it would pull smoothly, but sputter and sound like it was loading up. If the pilot jet/air screw was too lean, then it would run rough and buck as if only seem to make power on every few revolutions of the motor. But when the pilot jet/air screw was right it ran smooth and clean. As far as main jet. My banshee was running lean on 540s, but then I changed the intake/filter setup and now jetting is perfect with 390s. Are you happy with your main jet, or are you still having trouble with it?

less than 50 psi in each cylinder...
mrmatt replied to lastlegwarrior's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Re-check the compression with a different gauge. It may be that your gauge is wrong, not that your compression is that low. I wouldn't expect your banshee to run at all with 43 psi compression. My old gauge would show 70 psi on a new stock motor. So I changed the shrader valve and now it reads 50 psi higher. -
Sorry, no cottage for me either. Broke, I think that the campground 'Val-de-lakes' was discussed earlier. I didn't read back through this whole post but I believe that boonman was planning on staying there. But I also remember someone saying that it was a sh*t hole. This trip less than two weeks away, we should decide on a campground soon. I plan on getting there around 5-6pm on Friday and leaving on Sunday afternoon. Is this about what you plan on doing? If so, I can reserve a campsite for you and I, once we decide where. Matt

Pardon my ignorance, but I want to make sure that I understand this. I will go through DNR gate number 1 to get into a parking lot. In order to do this, both my truck and quad need to registered with the state of michigan. Then I can unload in that parking lot and go through gate number 2 with my quad to actually ride the dunes. At gate 2 is where they actually perform the SA, sound tests. Can I register my truck and quad at the first gate, or do I have to go somewhere else first? Can I get by w/out registering my truck? I have no intention of taking it out on the dunes.

Is there any place to camp that is close enough to ride to the park? I plan on sleeping in my truck and I want to leave it at the campsite during the day.
-
I'll be there. This will be my first trip to SilverLake, I'm not expecting dunes like Dumont, but hopefully I won't be disappointed. I was reading on the DNR website about the Voucher system, I hope that this system is much simpler in practice, than it seems. Anyway, I came across this FAQ: "Q: When will the Voucher System go into effect this year? A: Vouchers will be handed out starting at noon on Friday, May 14, 2004 and will be continuously distributed through the summer on weekends/holidays until Sunday, September 12, 2004." This implies that we won't need to worry about getting vouchers for this weekend. This is good, because I was getting a headache trying to understand the DNR website. So what is the story on camping? Is someone going to reserve a big camping area and we settle up the fees when we all get there, or should I reserve my own spot?

amp link install and chain tension
mrmatt replied to checkster's topic in General Banshee Discussion
1. You are supposed to, but if you can get away w/out removing it, you might as well leave it on. 2. They suggest adjusting the chain at full suspension drop, but mine was tightest at normal ride height, so that it where I adjusted it. I tightened my chain until there was 3/4 - 1" of slack in the chain. Which is quite a bit tighter than w/out the amp link. Make sure the rollers are aligned properly with the chain. If not it will destroy the rollers, your front sprocket, and most likely your chain. You can move the rollers by using a large socket and hammer. They are a press fit on the aluminum spacers. -
They will not fit together easily. You need to lengthen and straighten the stinger portion of the silencers. It will take a welder and a torch to make it work. But it will sound badass when you get it done. You will get the raw sound from the toomey silencers and all of that ping-ping sound from the FMF pipes.

Can you just get the Ohlins revalved to slow down the rebound? Maybe they can make them rebound adjustable at the same time. I'm sure this would cost a whole lot less than a brand new set.

My wife has a model 26 9mm. It is bad ass and tiny. Eventhough the barrel is only 1 1/2" long it is more accurate than a lot of other full size pistols.
-
Sounds like a lean hesitation. Turn your air screws in one complete turn and see if it is better. If so, then buy bigger pilot jets. I would guess that you need 30s.

Is the clutch cover gasket necessary? I thought about using Yamabond when I reinstalled the clutch cover. But I noticed that the gasket includes a lot more material that what is necessary to seal the joint. I assume that the extra material acts as baffles. Does anyone run w/out a gasket? What would it hurt?

I partial agree with the other guys. Don't change gearing trying to gain bottom end. Address the real issue, the motor. My opinion differs in what gears to use. I currently run 13/41. I have tried 14/41 and 15/41. I ran 15/41 for quit a while since so many people on here like it. But I finally came to the conclusion that it didn't suit my riding style. With the 15/41 gearing 1st was too slow for hill climbing and 2nd was too high. 2nd gear with 13/41 is perfect for hill climbing, for me. I liked trail riding with the 15/41 gears, but not hills. As far as drag racing goes. I just launch in 3rd gear most of the time. This gives me more tire speed then the guys running 15/41 that launch in second. Of course I lose some top speed with the 13/41 gearing, but I rarely get into 6th anyway. Just my $0.02.
