Banshee Chad
Is there some type of limiter or something on the new banshees. I just got an 06, took it to the mountains a couple times to break it in. Well, i went to the dunes this sunday, the bike did totally awesome everywhere. There is a little problem: when i was nearing the top of sand mountian (3rd gear) the motor sounds awesome and seems to be running great, and then outta nowhere, it bogged down, seemed to just lose all power, i tried this about 4 times, and it did it in nearly the same spot everytime. And then on some of the other steeper hills, when it seems i was running in the powerband for a few mins it seemed to do the same thing, regardless of the gear i was in. Ive seem on bikes for sale people saying "rev limiter removed", is this something that is installed on these bikes to keep them from running full bore for very long. It also was very hot down there, about 99 degrees the rangers told me. So i was thinking it might have been the heat and the fact that it was a new bike and might not be totally broke in to run at high rpms yet? Any clue guys???? i was having fun smoking the yfz450's and raptor's till i got about 20 yards from the top and had to turn around. I wanna be able to keep smoking them all the way up. I dont really wanna do any mods though, i like the low end too for now cuz its my mountain bike for a bit too. So please help with whats wrong, please someone tell me its not my new bike. TORS are removed usually, throttle over ride system, when your throttle slides stick open & your not touching the throttle it kills the ignition for safety
Banshee Chad
Thanx, whats tors? any one else got any ideas??
Snopczynski
Sounds like either the park brake switch is going bad, the tors are acting up and malfunctioning, or your float level is too low.
Banshee Chad
well its brand new, dont know why the park brake would make the engine sound and act like its not getting gas. Whats TORS? and how would i check and adjust my float level? Any other ideas? Thanks guys.
shee4speed
I 2nd the float levels. Remove your carb bowls, flip the carb upside down, and measure without the gasket in place to the top of the floats.Should be 21 mm.
Snopczynski
The tors is an anti-throttle stick device thats a piece of crap and causes more headaches than good. I have seen a park brake switch go bad on a newer bike. Usually it happens after the handlebars have sustained a hit or the clutch lever area has sustained some extreme abuse. als660r
check floats Also check fuel cap vent or hose. If you used a fuel can with bad gas or rust in it check the petcock and screen.
Banshee Chad
ok, i dont think it is the park brake - i havent hit the bars or anything at all, let alone hard. It just seemed like it wasnt getting gas when the hill got really steep, and then when i flip around and let off throttle and re-apply it popped like it got over loaded with fuel. ill check the float levels, I dont know about carbs, let alone how to take the bowls off, is there a diagram or something somewhere thatll show me how to take them apart? I dont wanna mess anything up, shouldnt they have cam adjusted from the dealership? ill run a search on the floats and carbs to see what i can find Thanks again guys, i really appreciate the help. Dinner
It almost sounds like you are running out of fuel, being as it is only on hills. I agree with the floats, go and check the entire carb as well, wont hurt.
Banshee Chad
Well, i appreciate the info guys. I will do a search here on clymers and see where i can get one. Thanks a lot guys, ill let you know how far off they are adjusted. Does everyone agree with what the measurments should be? What will the floats do? or is that in the clymers? TurboBanshee420
"popping" or "backfiring" is ALWAYS a lean condition. If you heard it pop then it's running out of fuel at the top of the hill. most likely in the same spot becuase you are starting with the same amount of fuel at the bottom. Try raising the fuel level by 4mm. bend the float tab down a c-hair... ( the small tab on the flaot bracket that pushes the seat closed) but watch out that you don't turn the carbs over before securing the pin that holds them on. YOU WILL LOSE IT! If it leaks gas when you turn the fuel back on when your done then you bent the tab too far down and the fuel won't stop porring in the bowls. Banshee Chad
cool, thats exactly what it seems like its doing. running great, and then right at the top, it seems like it runs out. Does the bowl hold a certainamount of fuel, and the float let it know how full to fill it? kind like a toilet?? Where do i buy or find an online copy of a clymers? I did a search, but i keep finding stuff that doesnt say where i can get one. but i keep finding all sorts of other info i wasnt looking for. Thanks guys.
