Speed freak Posted May 1, 2007 Report Posted May 1, 2007 After days of trying to get this thing dialed in I decided to pull the top end off and have a look because it had ran hot a few times while trying to set the jets ...and it had locked up one time before so needed to change the piston and look at the cylinders also ..well I call up TRINITY and tell them the problems I am having and the guy asked me how I had them ported..I said hell whatever your guy sold me ..so he looked it up and asked if I had sent the top case to them ?? I said didnt know I was supposed to nobody told me to ..he said I had to send him the top of my case to have it trinched to match some transfer port on the cylinders I said this is all news to me first anyone has said about it..he said that is probly why it was running hot and why I was all the way up to a 168 main anyone know what it is that they are wanting to trench out or port on the top case ...or has anyone else had this happen??? Bansh-eman Posted May 1, 2007 Report Posted May 1, 2007 (edited) who ever you talked to is a fukin retard! you only need cases trenched for a 7mil or more stroker... haing your port timings done will do nothing for heat... you need to take your shit else where... had you done a 10 min search here before going to them you would known that trinity is a fuckng joke. but lesson learned... if your over heating your having either a collant system issue or your running lean what all jets you running and domes... what altitude you at? Shee-Male Posted May 1, 2007 Report Posted May 1, 2007 they want to match the case to the transfer ports, where the intake charge that is pushed below the piston is pushed up either side of the con rod up the side of the cylinder to above the piston. Hard to explain if you've never seen insid the motor. Quote

Handyman Posted May 1, 2007 Report Posted May 1, 2007 Speedfreak.....I have a cheetah P.V. and have had no overheating probs. the cases are not trenched since it's a 4mil, 7mil or bigger requires trenching from what I understand. Right now I'm running 142 mains, 45 pilots, clip in 3rd position at that's set up for 4500 ft above sea level. right now I'm at 200 ft above sea level and it runs fine. over heating is either a cooling problem or a lean jetting issue. When i broke in the motor i was running rich at 160 main and a 48 pilot. if you have any questions you can pm me or just post in this thread Bansheeseat$$ is pretty knowledgeable when it comes to cubs and powervalves Quote
Leadfoot350 Posted May 1, 2007 Report Posted May 1, 2007 trinity is telling you that you need to port match your top case to the cylinders. This will give another 2ish hp but I cant see how it would make it run cooler unless the air in the crankcase is hot and the lip on the case is getting hot because of all the air running over it. You need to check out your cooling system and see how that is going. Are you running enough oil also? How about an air leak. I would check that too. That would cause high jetting Quote
Speed freak Posted May 1, 2007 Author Report Posted May 1, 2007 Not trying to start a pissing match here about TRINITY they may have forgot to tell me a few things but over all I am pleased with them ..I know there are alot of people who dont like them for one reason or another but the same can be said for about any big company out there ..not taking the blame off of them because they did mess up but other than that I have always got exactly what I needed and if I needed it sent out the same day they did it no problem unlike other places that say they have it all then when you order it well it will be 2 weeks ...I just had the misfortune of getting a sales guy that was a little off in the head but I finally talked to a guy name James and he set things straight and sounds like a man who knows what he is talkin about . cam2 Posted May 1, 2007 Report Posted May 1, 2007 trinity is telling you that you need to port match your top case to the cylinders. yep, that's what he was saying. if you're running hot, i highly doubt it is due to the cases not being match ported to the cylinders. i ran a set of cylinders for almost two years that had the tranfers opened up and i didn't have the case match ported to them and i never had a heating issue. i don't think that would cause the issue. i suspect something else is causing the issue.
